Title: Games with reversible covers:
Post by: disgaeniac on May 13, 2012, 12:33:50 pm
I *really* like some of these, and now, as I'm going (slowly) through my collection & adding games here...I'm also opening-up all of my cases and verifying the condition of each game & if the manual for the game is there as well.

*Except for any *sealed* games, of course :)

So far, I noticed that:

Heavenly Sword and Folklore (both for the PS3)

and

Digital Devil Saga (for the PS2) all have double-sided art-work for their covers.

Anyone else who likes these, knows of some, or has some to add...please do so!

Interesting, I'll have to keep an eye out for these

Yeah.

I always enjoy finding out that a game I've had for ages has this...and I didn't know about it!

...It's always a pleasant surprise for me:)

An example (of a game I've had for ages w/o knowing that the cover was 2-sided) is another PS(2) RPG that I just noticed the 'alternate' art-work side to it called Stella Deus: The Gate of Eternity.

Looks like some new info to add to the descriptions

Good idea!

I may add it to the descriptions & possibly also include it in "My Notes"...

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has a reversible cover, as does Xenoblade.

I know Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex has a reverse able cover too. As does Xenoblade Chronicles, Disidiea: Final Fantasy and Kid Icarus: Uprising. I'm sure I have a couple others... but can't think of them atm.

Quite a few PSP covers do that, I think, because of the clear cases... would those be considered reversible as well or just inside art?  Something we could add to that slideshow of covers for the item record?

I'd consider anything where you can have a choice of 2 different pictures/art work for your cover as "reversible".

I've come across a couple more, but instead of adding one every time I find one, I think that I'll just wait...and at the end of each day...list any that I may have found.

You're right - there *are* a good amount of these on the PSP (and, so far, I've also found some for the PS2, PS3, and DS; as well).

Alright - I've quite diligently added another 50 of my games today, and that's enough!

I'm about to grab something to eat and watch me some Law & Order and Game of Thrones!

It was nice that I found another double-sided/reversible cover in one of the last 10 games that I added.
Not only that...but...as I was checking out the other side of the cover...I found/noticed that there is *Also* an *Additional poster/Insert between the cover itself & the case.

If anyone's interested/has the game...it was:

Izuna 2: The Return of the Unemployed Ninja (on the DS).
And, the insert/poster was a pretty cute one of Izuna :)

Borderlands for 360 has a reversible cover.

I think we should keep this thread going and create a full list.

I know there are a bunch but right now all I can remember is Mass Effect 3. You can choose to display a male or female Shepard on the cover.

Borderlands for 360 has a reversible cover.

I think we should keep this thread going and create a full list.

Didn't know about the 360 Borderlands one.

I'm wondering if they're "console-specific" or "game-specific" (as in if the 360 Borderlands has it...does that automatically mean that all versions of the Borderlands game will have it)?

I can't help here since I don't have any of the Borderlands versions.

I'd also like to keep the list going & updated.
Not only because it will be interesting to see if all platforms/versions are created equal and because it will be a nice list to watch grow...but because I really love finding out about ones I have & didn't know about.

Unfortunately, all I can do "tech-wise" is if I find a game front/back cover or picture of something for sale in an on-line store...using my ps3's browser I can save the image & then link it to the site.

I presently don't have the ability (camera) to take pictures (like pics of both sides of the cover to add) which is unfortunate because I would love to see & add these double-sided covers as we find them.

..Eventually...I *may* get my digital camera back from my sister (but seeing as she's 100 miles from my house (and the new  (and 1st time) mother of a 9 month old infant) - I'm sure that returning the camera isn't high on her list of present priorities.

Looks like I may have 'traded' my nice digital camera for an "uncle-ship"...seems fair enough to me :)

NOT just DVD-Styled, my friend...I know for a fact that some of my PS2, PS3, DS (cartridge), and PSP (UMD) have these 'double-siders'...

Well that's what I meant. Clamshell cases in general.

That *IS* a pretty good link :)

Like you said, though, I'm pretty sure that there's some more that they might have missed there...

...plus...that kinda' takes all of the fun out of being surprised, finding them, and adding/Listing 'em as we go :P

I don't *think* that they do...I don't remember ever seeing any kind of "gallery" there before...

It *Would* be really sweet to have, like you said, a "Gallery" of some kind showing *both* sides of the ones that have the alternative art-work side-by-side for comparisons; I think.

I don't know if this counts but for Madden NFL 09 Brett Favre was on the cover and he was getting traded to the jets. The original cover had him in his Packers Uniform, and EA had available for download a new cover with him in his Jets Uniform. I believe they were available for Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, and PS2.

That's kind of like when Okami was relased for the Wii and Capcom accidentally left the IGN watermark on the image used for the cover.

You could go to a site through Capcom and order replacement covers for that as well.

Came across a few more as I was adding more of my PSP games earlier today (So - these are *ALL* PSP games that I'm listing here):

A).  Kingdom of Paradise,

B).  LUNAR: Silver Star Harmony,

C).  PaRappa the Rapper,

D).  Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory,

E).  Shin megami Tensei: Persona, and

F).  Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin

Yeah, that was great.  Well, not Capcom messing up like that, but getting the free new covers.  The alternative art for the covers was really nice~.

Oh, most of the games I knew about got mentioned, but I will bring up Magna Carta (PS2).  I don't own the game anymore, but I'm pretty sure it has a reversible cover.  I don't know if Magna Carta 2 follows the reversible cover trend or not, though.

I just want to note that the 360 version of FFXIII does NOT have a reversible cover. Darn PS3 fans :(

Anyway, we're including all types of art on the other side of the covers, right?  In that case, all the PSP Ys games published by XSEED (Ys Seven, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys I&II Chronicles) have some art, though it's not technically another cover.

If MS could get away with it I doubt they would have any covers.

I was wondering if it would be consistent on different platforms or not...

Yes...anything w/ something on both sides is fine.

Instead of making a new post, while I'm here, I'll just add:

Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust (also PS3 version...and strangely (as it's the only one I have) it's a European release/version)  ::)

Personally, I don't think I would count games that have clear cases. Sure you can flip the art around, but it's not like it's a bonus alternate cover. It's more like taking the book from a CD and flipping it backwards.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean...

I meant that, if you could pull out the sleeve/cover of the game, and there was art (of any kind) on both sides of it (front & back) that it would qualify.

For example:

One of the PSP Persona games has the "standard" art-work on the one side, and (iirc) some butterflies or something on the other side...so I would include it in this topic...

Another interesting thing (I thought) to note - and that (somewhat ties-into the spirit of this topic) is:
that if you take the PSP versions of Star Ocean 1 & 2 , put them both next to each other, right-side up...the "1/2 Globes" on each game will line up w/ each other into 1 bigger & 'combined' one.

I'm pretty sure that I'm just about done adding my PS3 games, so I'll list the last 3 that I've come across:

(1).  Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

(2).  White Knight Chronicles: International Edition

(3).  Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

I thought this was what was meant by this topic too. It sounds more like they just decorated the inside rather than make another full cover. For me in order for it to be an alternate cover it would have to have the title on the spine.

I would also prefer for there to be a title on both spines...but there's many examples where there is full-art (takes up the entire space on both sides) and has nothing on the spines.

Perhaps I could have worded the topic title better, but since the vast majority of games has *nothing* on the other side...I was still interested enough to find out which games had something...and looking for consistency/inconsistency between platform releases.
