I mean Metroidvanias ARE a unique kinda Platformer, after all!

Because it's a platformer. That category already exists.

This recent topic (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,12370.0.html) discussing why other Genre selections aren't being added at this time will be beneficial to read.

With that said, many would argue that metroidvania is not a genre. It is an incredibly niche style of action-adventure platformers that has only gained popularity in recent years. Either of those two choices are well-suited for the Genre field.

Anyway, Metroidvania is more of a sub-genre, but I've never cared much about this discussion if I'm being honest. Whatever it is, is. I love this style of games, though.
