First of all happy April Fool's Day and let´s start with this month thread 8)
-
Picked up some games:
Wii
Need for Speed: Nitro €3
F1 2009 + F1 steering wheel CIB €8
Nights: Journey of Dreams €6
Flingsmash €3
Job Island €3
Lost in Blue €4
James Bond: Goldeneye €6
SSX Blur €1.50
Secret Files: Tunguska €4
Playstation 2
Police 24/7 €15
Paid a bit more for this game because I had never seen it before.
Being a PS2 Konami lightgun game that skipped the USA and introduced motion controls to the PS2 years before the Eyetoy, it was such an oddity to skip it.

Here's what I've snagged since my last post in January. I've been focusing on sallow spots in my collection like Dreamcast, Famicom, PC-Engine, etc. Most of the best deals I've seen the last few months were for Saturn and Playstation games, hence the disparity.

I purchased the vinyl soundtrack for Lisa: Definitive Edition that's titled Lisa: Pain & Joy since it was on sale at half price for $19.99. I didn't know this until playing the soundtrack, but each of the four sides of the two records has a locked groove that plays a notorious grunting sound effect from one of the tracks on loop. It's a small, but quite funny, addition.

I've heard from multiple trusted sources that this game is the best Indiana Jones release, movie or otherwise, since The Last Crusade. I feel like people are quick to call even mediocre entertainment amazing in the current media climate we live in. This makes me a little hesitant to play it, at least at full price, but it is a modern game on my radar, at least for now.

I ordered this game and I never got it, I had to put in a claim and get a refund.
Then two months later some dude shows up at my door and hands me a package and get the game I ordered.
I think someone in my area got my package and held on to it for months before returning it.

I'm sure I'm guilty of this but I'm sick of the last decade of BS being shoved into all forms of entertainment. Disney especially has f**ked things up so I was incredibly hesitant to watch the newest Indiana Jones movie, but it was a life long favorite IP that Disney didn't create, so I gave it a chance. It was actually pretty decent, with the main actress being annoying but learning her lesson by the end. Thus, I'm willing to give this game a chance. It helps I've heard good things because if there were even a hint of Disney's BS in it, I wouldn't buy it. Now my only hurdle to get over is the first person gameplay.

Fortunately Lucasfilm seems to be fairly hands off when it comes to games based on their IPs. There are exceptions with games like Star Wars Outlaws, but i think that game's...issues had more to do with the people at Ubisoft and Lucasfilm being cut from the same cloth. But Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor are two of the best action games and Star Wars IPs I've played in a long, long time. I especially adored Fallen Order.

Yeah, I'm not even a big Star Wars fan and enjoyed those.

The battery life on my PS5 DualSense controllers is pretty garbage, so I bought a new Chroma Green one. It's hawt.

I need to swap the batteries out on my PS3 and PS4 controllers. The PS3 controllers and one of my PS4 controllers can only hold a full charge for about an hour before they die again.

The flaws that came up often were the gameplay and the fact that there are collectibles but apart from that, I also read that it was a good adaptation.
I don't know if you're a subscriber, but you can always try it on Game Pass if you don't want to pay the full price.

I'm not, but I'll likely pick it up on PS5 when its goes on sale at some point. I'm very curious about this game.

I give myself one $70 game per year and being a lifelong favorite IP, Indy took it for 2025.
Last year was FF7 Rebirth and the year before that was Zelda TotK.
I'll give a review after I complete it for those curious.

Been hitting a lot of low flea market level prices getting PS3 lots. PS3 is in purgatory and also a top 5 console all time for me now. Gladly gotten many games at 3 dollars each including

Red dead redemption
Heavy rain
Hitman absolution
Cars Mater International
Prototype
Rage
Uncharted 3
Red faction gorilla

Darksiders
Nascar Heat
Skyrim
Battlefield Bad Company
Crysis
Sonic Genesis Collection
[7 dollars each]

Loving building PS3 library on a budget. If PS3 sees an infpux in desire from nostalgia or economy. Ill be ahead of that curve.

I got indiana jones today as an early birthday gift to myself :) Hoping you're liking it because these modern game prices and file sizes are a killer lol.
The idea of first person uncharted was too good to wait for a sale. I fell in love with the trailer. Give me something to do on easter. Happy gaming.

The idea of first person Uncharted was something I was against. I much prefer third person games and it's a rarity when first person is done in a way I enjoy. This is primarily due to the influx of first person games during the PS3 generation. It became the go to, saturating the market and a lot of it was just... horrible.
There are exceptions to every rule, though. I loved the Battlefield games from the 2nd on PS2 through the two Bad Company games on PS3. Chronicles of Riddick was done incredibly well. Now... I'm adding Indiana Jones to the list of first person exceptions. It's done well and the back and forth between first and third person (depending on the action) is not jarring, as I expected it would be.
It's so good, so far, that I'm 7 hours in. For me to be 7 hours in after only 3 days is insane. I'm normally not 7 hours into a game after 10 days. Kudos to the develeper and thank you to Microsoft for deciding to bring this to PS5. This title alone, they've out performed Sony on Playstation for the generation.
Also... kudos to Troy Baker. I fully doubted the man could pull off Harrison Ford's voice, but he's pretty damn close.

This got me excited to play! Happy to hear the high praise. Glad you're enjoying it. Mine came this morning. The graphics look absolutely stunning which I know has become standard for this gen but it does feel a grade above others in the genre. Also a big step for bethesda that had a few misses recently. I only grazed it. Im excited to see how first person on a puzzle platformer feels.
The install size is absolutely insane for a single player game but I have a 1tb internal SSD so I can accommodate.
I have similar sentiment about fps. I think duke nukem forever was a capital war crime lol.
Happy easter gaming!

I'm not actively buying games this year, but I managed to hustle some:
Scrabble [DE] for PlayStation
+ a friend of mine donated me a bunch of Logitech Driving Wheels for PS3, that I must examine and test first before I can assimilate them into my collection. Anyone here with experiences about used driving wheel/pedal controllers ? Guess some of them might be worn out to much to consider them working ... dunno
-
Ok... so a downside to the new Indiana Jones (PS5). There was an update/patch for the game today and it wouldn't let me play until the patch was downloaded and installed. I would expect this for an online multiplayer game, but not for a single player game. Not a fan of that.

I have conversational knowledge on racing wheels. I had a madcatz m12 from the ps3 gen. A trust master ferrari wheel from that generation and upgraded to XB1. And now I have a logitetch G29 FF wheel for ps4/PS5
As for your question. Theirs 3 main different types of wheels. Direct drive force feedback. Gear driven force feedback. And no force feedback.
Like a turntable thats direct drive. You have a belt, and a motor which has high torque. It simulates countersteer and feedback to the wheel and makes it so the wheel will pull like a real car. These are the top of the line systems usually over 450 dollars.
Gear driven is similar. But instead of a belt that uses motor torque to pull the wheel. It has gears with individual motors that form a tri axis that pulls the wheel in varying directions. This system is nice and still high end. Often 200 to 300 dollars. But it's not as smooth feeling as direct FF systems. It is a bit cheaper and more entry level for consumers like me who dont want to spend upwards of 1000 dollars on a wheel.
Then theirs no force feedback. Many of the mario kart themed wheels, the cheaper mad catz wheels and the entry level thrustmasters dont have any. Its just turn and rebound. No motors.
For your statement of "too worn out to work" that's highly unlikely. The gears don't necessarily wear out under any normal useage. Can it happen? Probably. But under heavy usage for Probably upwards of 2000 hours. If they feel loose its because you havent hooked up the force feedback power supply yet. Its what gives the wheel resistance.
What does happen however is the gears can break since they are typically plastic. Belt drive systems can snap or break. So usually you dont necessarily get a "it wore out" moment. Its more just broken and done because someone got rough with it. So it'll either work. Or not. Rarely theirs an in between.
My only advice. Launch Gran Turismo 5 or 6 for ps3. Enter cockpit mode in game where it shows the steering wheel on screen. Set up each wheel. And test to see if their is any issue with it replicating your movements on screen. Does it center itself properly without your help? Are their any dead zones where the input isnt picking up?
If all that checks out. You probably have a good wheel. And its fit for your collection. Force feedback usually requires power cables. Typically a figure 8 style cable. If they arent included they might work but without force feedback. Hope this helps. Pretty cool to get a bunch of wheels for a collection.

Not really a homebrew/ repro collector but it is pretty interesting to come across a bunch of games from timewalk games. which are quite famous in terms of the homebrew world for fantranslated physical copies.
Next best thing to an original release epecially stoked to be playing clock tower and gunman's proof in english on a physical snes cart
aside from chrono trigger crimson echoes all from timewalk games
Mario return to dinoland blue cart version
clock tower
megaman & bass
gunman's proof

zelda parralel worlds
CT crimson echoes. not timewalk but pretty nice quality homebrew, good box and manual
