Limited Run Games announced their next E3/Summer Game Fest style showcase is happening on October 29th. For a while I didn't even think they were going to do one of these, since they usually happen during the summer. But regardless, better late than never. I always look forward to seeing the stuff that LRG is making available physically over the next year or so. Let's have some discussion and make some predictions as to what they'll be releasing this next year. Also, wishlists are welcome too.
-
Here are a combinations of wishes and predictions I have for LRG's 2025 showcase.
On cart releases of Switch 2 key card games: I think this would be huge for a lot of people and something LRG could probably do fairly easily. Even if they had to charge +$10 or whatever for the privilege of having the full game on cart, I think a lot of people would pay it. Of course, not all publishers would be on board with this, but I feel like some would be willing to allow this as long as there is extra money to be made.
Lightgun games on modern consoles: This one is more of a wishlist item than a prediction. It would be awesome if LRG partnered with one of the companies that make modern light guns that work with LED TVs and sold it as a plug and play option for the PS4, Switch, PS5, and so on. Alongside it, it would be amazing ifthey started doing physical releases of classic lightgun games from Sega, Namco, Midway, Atari and other companies that made incredible lightgun titles in the 90s and 2000s.
More modern ports of cult retro games: This seems to be LRG's bread and butter over the last year or so. I can see them announcing more of these. I'm not sure about specific titles, but you can bet there will be quite a few of these announced.

Some games I'd love to see get a physical from LRG
- Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection
- Fez HD
- Amnesia Collection
- Any of the cozy games that have come out recently, particularly Tiny Bookshop
- Hollow Knight Silksong?? If it's not done through Fangamer like the first game
- Any of the Asia released games that didn't get a physical NA release yet. Some notables are Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster, Chrono Cross HD, Eastward, Klonoa, LocoRoco, Fatal Frame, etc.

For years at this point, I've found Limited Run Games (LRG) to be below average in their product quality, publishing selection, and general handling of their business model (from a consumer perspective, anyway.) At this point in time, rarely is there a game I'm interested that they're offering that hasn't already been published elsewhere. Meanwhile, alternative options available from other publishers are almost always cheaper and have higher quality, so I've long since moved on from LRG. I maintain an active awareness about what they publish just in case there's something I want, though. Fortunately, most of their games eventually get distributed elsewhere through stores like Video Games Plus at retail or reduced pricing, so there are options for those not wanting to support LRG directly to still acquire the games they publish.
Not that I'd want to see these published specifically by LRG, but here are a handful of games I'd be happy were they to receive a physical release:
Cairn
The Midnight Walk
No, I'm Not a Human
To a T
Unbeatable

- Eastward
It seems quite likely a physical release for Silksong will be handled by Fangamer (https://www.fangamer.com/pages/hollow-knight-silksong), as you suspected. Also, Eastward did receive a NA retail release (https://vgcollect.com/item/218438) several years ago. I think it may have only been available online, though.

I want an date when we finaly get the promissed complete on card wolfenstein 2.
but I am expecting it to be only on switch 2. the switch 2 card should work on switch 1. that the switch 2 card will have an higher retail price doesnt mather to them. asside from that I am not expecting much lrg doesnt have a lot of games I care about anymore

Some games I'm hoping get ported to modern consoles with a physical release.
Psychic Killer Taromaru
Raizing Arcade Collection (Battle Garegga, Armed Police Batrider, Sorcerer Striker, Dimahu, and more)
Mega Man Legends Collection (I'm not a fan of these games, but think it would be cool)
Panzer Dragoon Saga (source code is long gone, but with enough effort this can probably either be ported or emulated to play on modern consoles)
Konami Classic Beat Em' Up Collection (mostly for The Simpsons and Xmen)

Just to clarify, but Limited Run Games is regarded as a developer (https://www.mobygames.com/company/28303/limited-run-games-inc/games/title:2) of sorts since they created the Carbon Engine. So, Panzer Dragoon Saga could be a game they themselves port and publish. They even previously published the physical copy (https://limitedrungames.com/products/switch-limited-run-67-panzer-dragoon) for the Panzer Dragoon remake.

Of course, the link I provided doesn't load correctly. From this page (https://www.mobygames.com/company/28303/limited-run-games-inc) under the Browse Games section, the "Developed by Limited Run Games, Inc." hyperlink is available to click. Regardless if whether the page ever loaded correctly or not, I did still supply the information as text which can easily be fact-checked.

still in my book your not an dev till you actualy developed an game. but I get and understand why someone thinks different.
even so it doesnt realy change much I still feel east asiasoft would be an betetr fit since they have experience devloping games. I could have said strictly limited as well but since they fell down so much I didnt mention them.

This was pretty meh compared to previous years. Oddly enough, there are a few indie titles that are getting physical releases that have me the most interested. I always get excited for modern ports of retro games and there are a few I may pick up. I guess my main issue this year is there are still so many series I'd love to see modern ports of that LRG hasn't gone after yet despite it seeming relatively easy for them to get licensing for them. All well, there's still a decent chunk of games I'll probably be getting from them this next year.
-
Yeah there wasn't anything I was particularly interested in unfortunately :( Oh well!
-
maybe iron meat since I missed that one and fuga. I had the japanese versions but sold them due to having important patches. depends on the price though.
I like some of the retro games but not enough to pay like 50 bucks or mroe for them with shipping and everything.
also wtf was the point in saying they where working on a new shantae game? I mean
I KNEW it is oblius its their biggest franchise.
and that ending 1 mroe thing only to show an 1 second immage of a game.
yeah this was relay disapooining nothing I realy wanted the avgn game seems the bets of all of them and frnakly I am not sure if i want it it looks way worse then the last one
-
Cool to get Little Samson finally, I played it once years ago at someones house for a real short bit and it seemed fun, but was crazy how stupidly expensive of a game it was lol

I heard the reason the showcase was moved back to October instead of doing it around Summer Game Fest like they usually do was because they barely had anything to announce. Honestly, there wasn't that much even several months later. It makes me hope they have more good stuff planned next year they didn't get to during the showcase. They typically do.

My initial reaction to the Little Samson reveal was excitement, however I then remembered I have this game on my NES flashcart. It's a fun game, no question, but I don't know if I like it enough to buy it separately for $40+. No way in hell I'd be one of those crazy people paying $1000+ for an original cartridge, but that's collectorism for you.

I'm not nearly a big enough NES collector to even consider wanting to get an authentic cart of Little Samson from any region. In fact, I'm not really an NES collector anymore at all. I appreciate a lot of game on the console, but in terms of my personal interest in collecting for it, I have all the games I've ever wanted for it. Whatever I don't have have, I'm fine just emulating or playing on on modern ports.

I'm just gonna buy it digital so I can at least play it lol That it's super rare and I can technically get a physical version is kinda neat, but I'm not paying whatever the cost would be, I'm only doing that for collections to justify the cost.
-
yeah I like the game but already own the card. and sorry its not worth 50 bucks or more to get the game on switch.
digital isnt an option for me I dont buy digital games so yeha pass for me as well
