PS1
NFL Blitz 2000
Risk
Rakugaki Showtime
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4
Monopoly

PS2
Scaler

PS3
PS Move navigation controller

Like with the Xbox 360, I patiently acquired the necessary things to have a PlayStation move from thrift stores. It took longer than I expected since I figure I'd see the controllers and camera you need at thrift stores about as often as a Xbox Kinect, but that ended up not being the case.

With this being my last month in Japan, I went to some of my favorite retro spots for possible my last time. My goal was to find some uncommon/rare GB/GBA tiles I have been on the hunt for and to flesh out my GC collection (I only had like 6 or so titles since I only decided to start collecting Japanese GC like a few months ago).

Found 1 GBA game and picked up a good selection of GC games for a good price. Games I picked up were:
1. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
2. Luigi's Mansion (GC)
2. Metroid Prime (GC)
3. Pikmin (GC)
4. Pikmin 2 (GC)
5. Battalion Wars (GC)
6. Starfox Assault (GC)
7. FZero GX (GC)
8. Tales of Symphonia (GC)

Still a couple of GC games I really would love to pick up before leaving. Namely Super Mario Sunshine, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Zelda Twilight Princess, Resident Evil and Resident Evil IV. I think I would be super happy with my GC collection like that if I pick these titles up. At least until I am able to come back to Japan and really start to flesh it out more. But right now I am not really sure what else I 100% want in my collection, because I just haven't played enough of the GC library.

PS4:
Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight

XBOX One:
DOOM (2016)

I think I might finish my XBOX One collection before my Switch collection, only 7 more games to go for that versus 9 more for my Switch.

*Edit* I miscounted, I need 11 more for XBOX One.

Rebought a PS3.

After scouring eBay and sellers offerings, seeing the horrible condition so many available systems were in (pretty sure one poor PS3 had cigarettes put out on it), I decided to go through Amazon's refurbished line. Went with the 320GB slim (not sure which model number it is yet) and if anything is wrong with it, I can still return or replace it.

I've begun the process of replacing my old collection with buying the following:
 - Infamous Collection (both games)
 - Motorstorm
 - Ridge Racer 7

All are complete.

XBOX One:
Shadows: Awakening

I had to order some CPAP filters, and needed an extra $15 on the order to qualify for overnight shipping, so I threw in a cheap game from my list.

I may be too late by replying to this now, but have you looked into the library's more niche titles exclusive to Japan, or ones that are significantly cheaper than NA copies? Doubutsu Banchou, Giftpia, Kururin Squash!, Kyojin no Doshin, and Mutsu no Nohohon come to mind, though maybe these wouldn't interest you.

if he's gonna return to japan at some point there is probably no rush. but it will definitely be harder to find japanese games in western countries at good prices.

Added Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3) to round out the initial physical collection. I'll probably add one or two titles per month for a while from here.

About how many more do you think you'll want to end up adding? Is the plan to only buy games you've previously played and then discarded, or to also add new ones?

I'll probably add new ones I never got around to as well, Lost Planet being one of them. Those are lower on the priority list as unknowns. Subject to change, but the next 3 I'm eyeing are the Killzone Collection (I never played the 3rd), Riddick: Dark Athena, and The Saboteur.

It's been a very long time since I bought anything from an independent game store. I decided to go to one this afternoon and was just planning on browsing. I ended up finding two used games I've been after for a while for a decent price and decided to go for it. Here's what I got:

-Lunar Remastered Collection (Switch)
-Sonic Lost World (Wii U)

Got the PS3 games I ordered, but Amazon decided to delay shipping me the PS3 I ordered by more than a week. Meanwhile, the listing has gone up $30 or more and says anyone that orders it will get it the next day. Talked to their support asking why they don't just send me the PS3 if it's in stock and they said if I don't want to wait, I can cancel and reorder and lose the $30.

Seriously?

Just purchased the Switch 1 version of Xenoblade Chronicles X and Metroid Prime: Remastered. Already played the latter on the Gamecube and Wii but the Metroid Ravenous rumors got me to finally pick it up, so Dread might be next.

Final pick up for July is The Saboteur (PS3).

I wasn't planning on buying any others until next month but came across a mint copy of it for a fair price. Some of the games are getting a bit nuts already after Sony's announcement. Expect 2nd hand market to explode over the next few months if not as soon as Jan 2028 hits.

Been adding to PS3 and PS4 while they are in purgatory. I've amassed up to 250 games on these consoles at ranges almost always between 2 and 5 dollars per game. Almost no shovel ware.  I tell new collectors.  Go Gen 7.  360, Wii and PS3 still have so much discount bundles.  And they are such great consoles. I constantly see decent starter collections of 30 to 50 games for 100 bucks. Talking the essentials. First party exclusives. Minimal sports.  There iss till cheap fun if you know where to look.  Shit even the big hitters on this console which I own some of them.  Are 100 versus 1000.  And so many good rpgs in the 20 to 30 range.

It's about the only 2 generations that give me the old feeling of collecting from pre 2014.

I got

PS4)

Evolve
KILLZONE Shadowfall
Wolfenstein Youngblood
Doom
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
Dying Light
Advanced Warfare
Uncharted Drake Collection
Guardians of the Galaxy
Gangbeasts
Star Wars Battlefront
Pay Day 2
Ghost Recon Wildlands
Race With Ryan
Monster Hunter
NBA 2k17

PS3

007 goldeneye reloaded
Fight Night Champion
Sims 3 Pets Edition
CN Punchtime Explosion XL
Disney UP

70 dollars for all above excluding Cartoon Network. So about 3.80 per game.

CN was 40

I just posted about this in the "its over" thread.  It's so cringe tbh.  Folklore for PS3 went from 50 dollars to 145 dollars in like 2 weeks because Sonys announcement.  Why would anyone hear that PS6 will be digital only and think "man. I really need to buy obscure PS3 games from 20 years ago now"  Sony announcing no more discs in 2028 sure makes ps2 games more scarce right?   sometimes gamers drive me up a wall.   What better way to celebrate or rally behind physical than to make it unobtainable to the average consumer.

I'll probably be forced out of the hobby entirely if it gets any worse.

Yeah, not sure how long my luck will hold out. Was only finding new copies of Riddick Dark Athena (PS3) on eBay and nowhere near me had it in stock used or new. Finally caught a break and found a copy in great condition about 30 minutes from me so I made the drive today. $20 used (fair price) vs $80-$400 on eBay.

One of the better days in my collecting history all time yesterday as I was able to get 3 games I always wanted for pre bubble prices!  In the words of ice cube.  I gotta say. Today was a good day lol.

1. Met a man locally for Asuras wrath. Really nice copy. What a cool dude too.

1. Asura's Wrath
2. Blitz the league II
3. Wet

I been doing PS3 since before sonys announcement and for whatever reason passed on these games.  And the news and subsequent price surge scared me. I already had regret for not getting wet at 40 dollars which it was and being able to get it for that range I am just glad i'll have it as my girlfriend also loves the game.  I wont be seeking games I dont actually desire to play but Wet is one of those I really do.

I do want to put out a flare that I am still in need of the following PS3 games and I have some potential trade games.

Alien Vs Predator
Adventure Time: because I dont know
Murdered
Bourne Conspiracy
Narnia
Condemned bloodshot
Fear 1 and 2
Lost planet 1 and 2
Saints Row 2
Fast and furious
Rambo
Godzilla JP release

The hunt goes on.

I mean, aren't you doing that right now by buying select PlayStation 3 titles in bulk? While you may not be the one setting prices, you're definitely someone who's demonstrating that any listed price for specific items are acceptable since you as a buyer are validating their market value.

Based on my collection notes, I bought my personal copy of Folklore in 2016 for $10. The same argument could be made for the difference in price from then up until recently. It's the same game then as it is now—setting aside the sharp rise in prices very recently, was the game even worth its value of the $50 price you're mentioning? Maybe, or maybe not. People seemed to think so then, and apparently people seem to think so now of its current market value.

People have been priced out of the hobby before, and they'll be priced out of the hobby again. It's a cycle largely dependent on the maturing age of consumers as they want to reclaim specific titles they grew up with especially, but eventually prices will return to a more acceptable and affordable rate.

Why are you insinuating I pay market value though? I buy PS3 games in bulk at about 3 dollars per game mostly. And I maybe paid half of sold listings and vpgc rate on most of my rare games if that. Sometimes thats not.possible to do. And I accept that. But I don't know why you assumed I contributed to that steep of a price jump.  If anything I actively refuse to.  For not only me but the sake of the hobby too.

As for the other part. Sure the market is whatever people buy it at. They think its fair. That doesn't mean I can't be upset when they do especially when it makes the hobby more costly for me. It's consumerist garbage weather its what they desire to pay or not.  I'm not poor but i'm not wealthy.  Elon Musk could buy every copy of folklore in circulation and make it 20k a copy.  That'd be the market because he was willing to do that.  Doesn't make it swell for everyone else.   It's still make him a market manipulator.  Not all of these price.hikes are even organic.  Some people buy their own listings and trick the algorith which then harms innocent people into spending a rate that it wasnt meant to be. Ive seen it done.

It went from 10 to 50 over the course of like 20 years.  That's natural appreciation.  50 to 175 in a week is not.   Are you basically saying its ok to take advantage of people.   What if toilet paper companies made rolls 17 dollars a roll?  And there response was "hey you paid it. Clearly thats ok with you"  no dude. I have to.wipe myself thats why I paid it lol.   People arent paying it because they are ok with it. They are paying it in fear it'll go even higher and thats cruel.

I agree that this is all a cycle though. Ps1 --> PS2 --> PS3.  The age group gets fomo and that generation of systems blows up.  Notice PS4 is untouched.  Until 2037 when that skyrocket.  I guess i'll just move to PS4 now.  Its got a lot of meat on the bone too.

Sadly, after testing all the PS3 games recently acquired on my new to me PS3, Motostorm doesn't work. Luckily, the eBay guy was understanding and has refunded me.

Took forever, but I finally got the PS3 from Amazon Refurbished. I had ordered a 320GB Slim, expecting the 2501B or 3001B models but they sent me a 2101A model which was originally a 120GB Slim. They had upgraded it with a 480GB HDD, so I can't complain. I assume I got the upgraded internal drive due to the delay.

Also, while beginning the process of downloading all my PS3 era PSN games, discovered there were quite a few I forgot I'd purchased, such as ICO and getting Resident Evil 1-5 when buying the RE6 collectors edition. So all that was waiting for me. I think I'll still eventually collect a complete copy of RE5 Gold Edition physically even though I have the PS4 release.

Of course, I'm not someone who supports market manipulation. With that said, the two scenarios being presented are vastly different from another. Your example relates to products for basic hygiene, whereas video games are wholly elective items that nobody needs. The two aren't really comparable. But like I said before, the market will eventually correct itself.
