This is a thread to post your 2013 collecting goals, and come back and report your progress on them as you complete your goals through the following year.
My 2013 collecting goals:
1. Obtain an Atari Lynx
2. Obtain a WORKING 3DO
3. I want to get some issues of Game Player's Magazine and Electronic Gaming Monthly from the 80s & 90s.
4. Work on my Saturn Collection (which seems harder and harder to do nowadays, the prices are getting insane)
5. Work on my pathetic (4 games right now) Nintendo DS collection. I traded many DS games away when Skyrim came out. Something I don't normally do, but it was an Elder Scrolls game and I was broke!
Games at the Top of My Wishlist:
-Breath of Fire (SNES)
-Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA)
-Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis)
-Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES)
-Contra: Hard Corps (Genesis)
-Chrono Cross (PS1)
-House of the Dead 2 (Dreamcast) - I do own it, but my copy ALWAYS glitches in level 2. You can't see the enemies but they still attack you. Yet the disc looks perfect, not a single scratch.
-Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Super Heroes (Dreamcast)
-Panzer Dragoon: Zwei (Saturn)
-Twisted Metal 1 & 2 (PS1)
-
I traded many DS games away
Bad burningdoom! You must hoard!!!
UPDATED Jan 1st:
For me I really need to slow down and focus on what I want.
1. Hit 2300 games. I am currently at 2192 so that is very doable without going over board.
2. BUY A DAMNED NEO GEO COLOR!!! This is the third year in a row that I have had this on my list and I have to get it this year
3. Buy some Super Famicom games. I'm not sure why but I really want to start gathering games for this system. Hitting 15 of them would be nice, 20 even better though :D
4. Hit 500 Xbox 360 games! I'm at 476 so again this is within my grasp without having to break the bank.
5. Hit 20 3DS games, only 5 away so if I can find a couple of cheap ones over the year I'll make it
6. A stretch goal would be to hit 300 DS games. I'm at about 250 so hitting 300 would take some really good deals but hopefully I can make it :)
7. Lastly I'll try and get 8 more Intellivision games to reach 50 of those. Shouldn't be too hard if I don't waste my money on other things.
Also thanks for posting this burningdoom, I love threads like this!

It's a great little handheld for the cheap price it goes for. Solid hardware that is great to use. The little clicky joystick is just feels satisfying. It's a shame it didn't have a larger library.
If you do get one, and you're a Sonic fan at all, then you MUST get Sonic Pocket Adventure. It's surprisingly good. There's a lot of stuff in there that's pulled from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it's almost Sonic the Hedgehog 2.5. Much better than the Game Gear handheld Sonic counterparts.
-
First and foremost, I'm going to try to fill in my NES collection with a lot of commons. After that, I think I'm just going to keep on buying everything I see. It's working out so far. ;D
Actually, I'm wanting to start finding more Nintendo Power magazines. I have a few. I had a subscription back in the day, but my Dad threw them out when "My Room" was no longer "My Room" at their house. Some folks act like getting married and buying a house means you'll never move back home.
So, there you have it. I'm going to buy common NES games and Nintendo Powers. I say that, but in reality I'll get side tracked and be all about Neo Geo or something in a few months.
-
I don't have goals! I have more fun that way, I can just get whatever whenever :P
-
1. Buy an Odyssey 2- Been looking at them for a while, just never bought one.
2. Finish SNES backlog- I have been working on this for a while and should easily finish it this year.
3. Get all my games in cases- I have had cases sitting around for a while, I just need to print off the covers and get it done.
-
get some homebrew games,Magnavox Odyssey orginal, all killer games on nes and snes and get every video game on the planet lol but not much for planning, i like to be spontaneous
-
First and foremost: ORGANIZATION! Hate that it is all just in boxes.
Fun stuff:
Working SegaCD
More NES carts, common or otherwise.
At least one CIB for the systems I currently own
A longbox or two for PS1, those are neat.
The new neo geo :)
-
1- Complete Fatal Fury Series on the Neo Geo, only two left... The two expensive ones
2-Complete Art of fighting series on the Neo Geo, only one left... again the expensive one
3-More Saturn games Im with you burningdoom those prices just piss me off
4-3ds and Wii U games, really looking forward to Rayman Legends
This one isnt really collecting related but fix my Model 1 Sega Cd, it looks Mint but doesnt work =/
-
1. Complete my collection of games on the Nes, especially:
- Complete Megaman Series
- Get Contra, Contra Force, Super C, Panic Restaurant, Fantastic Adventure of Dizzy, Teenage Mutant Turtles Tournament Figters, Ice Climber, Iron Tank
2. Get Famicom console
3. Get more systems and games ;)
-
Lets see....
- Buy a CIB copy of Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge to finish off my CIB [NA] collection (Maybe start on variant collecting after that) .
- Work on my Saturn Collection (170 to go in the list)
- Buy Kid Dracula on Famicom for my Castelvania Collection (Doesn't need to be CIB, would be awesome if it was though...)
- Buy and beat Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Mirror of Fate, then stick them with the rest of my Castelvania stuff (Watch for preorder bonuses/ Collectors Editions).
- Upgrade my shelving, I'm running out of room on the Castelvania shrine. :)
Like, Jobocan I don't really set a ton of goals, but I do have things I want to do collection wise.
-
To have fewer games in my backlog than I do at the end of 2012 :)
-

Never. Gonna. Happen.

Never. Gonna. Happen.
Probably so...since it would require that I play MORE and buy LESS :P
(or were you talking about yourself)?

This pretty much is true of all of us on here :D
-
get all the games in my wish list

Yup, we are all in the same boat.

Haha; yeah!
Much as I usually hate generalizations...this seems like a pretty safe one :P
-
1. Buy Super Mario Sunshine
2. Buy a lot of Sega Saturn games.
3. Get a few more Vectrex games (gosh they're expensive!)
4. The one thing that will occupy me this year is my goal to import a lot of Saturn SHMUPS.
-
For my personal collection:
1. To play some of the games that I haven't played through yet. I am thinking about just setting a timer for 15 minutes each day and picking a random title off the shelf.
2. To get more of my systems in a "ready to play" state. I used to have a switchbox setup with 8 different consoles ready to go, but I ended up getting rid of the furniture that all of that was on, and that TV broke...
3. To sell all my extras--two big boxes full of games and controllers to sell!
4. To get boxes for my loose Genesis and SMS games because... well... it's nice to have all those guys in their little plastic homes.
For my FEMICOM collection, the two things I really, really hope to get this year are the rest of the Casio Loopy game library, Casio Loopy peripherals, and a Lady Cassette Vision. Lofty, lofty goals, but hey, you never know! :) Some girly, '80s-era LCD handhelds from Japan would be nice, too.
-
3. To sell all my extras--two big boxes full of games and controllers to sell!
Will you be adding these to your "Sell-List" here...or can you link us to these treasures(?) once you've sorted everything out?!
-
main goal: to find a Sega CD model 1 so it doesn't look like a tumor on my genesis
other than that my only real goals are to increase certain collections like my saturn & Wii U, and also to knock off a few of my most wanted games like Fire Emblem, legacy of kain: Blood Omen, & Arc Rise Fantasia.
-

I am currently in the process of adding them all to my Sell List, and I'll probably make a thread once they're all sorted and ready to sell or trade. It's a mix of NES, SMS, PC, GBA, N64, PS1, GC, and Wii stuff. Can't remember what all is in there but I'm fairly certain OoT and TwiPri are in the mix. ;)
-
Oh, this is sort of a collecting goal:
Fix my Vectrex controller so that I can actually start getting games for it. Sadly buying a working controller isn't an option unless I want to spend more on a controller than I spent on the console.
-
My main goal is to not lose my house this year. If everything goes right in February, that will be a success. We will see.
In the meantime, my gaming goal is to get Suikoden II and Ni No Kuni. Thats it for now. Im not sure what will follow in the future.

Geez that sucks, I hope everything works out. Keep us in the loop!

There are a few games I want to buy, but I don't have any goals more lofty than that.
-
complete as many of my games as i can.
also buy any systems i don't currently own (atari Jaguar is high on my want list.)
-

I have always wanted to find a Jaguar in the wild but the only ones I've seen have been GROSSLY over priced
-
especially with the CD drive
-
I just started collecting like a year ago, and it's hard to collect with not really any expendable money so yeah....
Here are my Game Collection goals for 2013
1. Get a Nintendo 64
2. Buy games for said Nintendo 64
3. Get a Wii U
4. Start a collection for the Wii U
5. Buy a SEGA Saturn
6. Buy games and an action replay for the SEGA Saturn
Most likely I would only be able to buy a Wii U but I really want a N64, I always have since I was a child. I would go into Toys-R-Us and see the N64 and always wanted to play Super Smash Bros but my family never had the money to get it. Now N64's are cheaper but still, no extra money to buy it.
-
Im pretty sure you can come across a 64 pretty cheap. I used to see them at thrift stores all the time. If you have anything to trade, Im sure someone here has a few extras.
-
im going to wait for the Wii U to drop in price.
N64 are really cheap about 25 bucks. check craigslist for your area
ive been getting alot of good deals on facebook (my town has 2 facebook yard sale groups)
-
Probably just some games.
Another copy of Xenogears. Hopefully a functional one.
To repurchase some rather expensive PS1 and Saturn titles I was forced to sell this year. Outside that just survive. Because my wife may kill me before it's all over with. :D
Still some hardware to invest in. A Turbo Duo, 3DO-FZ-1, Neo Geo CD, PS2 slim, and a PS3 but the hardware can wait for a bit.

I have a PS2 slim that powers on but doesnt do anything. I dont know how easy it is to fix but if you want it, let me know.

That's a might kind offer. I may take you up on it when I have some spare greenbacks to throw around. ;D
-
I dont have anything into it. I do not sell anything for profit. Basically its shipping cost.
-
If I remember correctly these take the same AV cable as the other Playstations. I just don't remeber if they have a unique power adapter or not.
-
I don't really have any goals for the upcoming year. I'm in the process of building a house, so pretty much every spare dime is going towards it. It's going to be a pretty slim year for buying games.
-

Nope, its the same cords as the PS1. I have a full set of cords anyhow. What I mean by I dont have anything into it is I have no money invested into it.

I understood you. :) I was just basically trying to remember what the connections were. I have a ton of leads but I don't think I have the power lead for it. :-\
-
I have probably 20 of them. :)
Yeah, if you are interested, let me know. I had an offer from a guy who buys them for $20 shipped but he just refurbs them and resells them. Im not in it for profit and if someone would use it, Id rather do that.
-
I don't have any real goals, per-say, but I would like to get a PSP and Vita this year, as well as a 3DS. Would also like to get games for said handhelds. For some reason I've been focusing more on handheld games for the past few months... *shrug*
I'd also like to work on whittling down my wishlist.
-
I guess for me this years gaming goals will be to find a better way to display my boxed games like my flintstones 2 and my clay fighters sc boxed. I'll probably be letting somethings go as well.
-

If you can find a way to do it I will take them off your hands and display them here :D
Only trying to help :)

Finish my game room... :/
-

I look forward to pictures :D
-
I recently just cleaned out and focused my collection to just sega and xbox.
I want to pick up several Xbox 360 games (they are insanely cheap right now. I've been picking up several good titles for $2 a game).
I also want to flesh out my genesis collection and work towards completing a tower of power. I can find the add ons tomorrow if I really wanted. But I am very patient and cheap.
Secondary (but could become primary based on local thrift shops and flea markets) are to build up the original xbox and game gear collection.
-
Unfortunately this year my ultimate goal is to save money. The easiest place to cut right now is video games and car modifications. So my goal is probably to cut back on collection spending but still add a few pieces if I can find them at a good price. No big collectables.
-
- Finish off my Vectrex collection.
- Finish off my SMS collection (a long shot but do-able if the funds are available)
- Finish off my 32x collection (again, pending availability of allocated funds)
- Fix the majority of my broken arcade machines
- Finish the conversion of one side of the garage into a proper arcade
-

You do seem to be very close on the 32x. The SMS would be tough if nothing else but for the James Buster Knockout Boxing. That seems to be a pain to get.

if price is what stopping you from getting knockout boxing you should keep your eye on pricecharting.com: http://videogames.pricecharting.com/game/sega-master-system/james-buster-douglas-knockout-boxing (http://videogames.pricecharting.com/game/sega-master-system/james-buster-douglas-knockout-boxing) and if just dont like ebay or amazon well sorry for replying

2013's goal will probably be as generic as "get more games". Right now I'm still a student, and living at my parent's house, so I don't really have goals about "gaming rooms" or "display" yet. Though I have to admit, we did a pretty decent job with the family gaming room this year! Since me and my brother both live with the parents, they kept us part of the basement for our consoles, and I put some gaming swag here and there. I should take pictures and post them, so that my dad can see that he did such an awesome job painting the walls that I had to show it on the internet :P
-
- Reach 1200 games.
- Get a complete SMS collection.
- Get a complete Color Dreams (http://vgcollect.com/publisher/1393) collection.
- Get an Atari 5200, Atari Jaguar, Turbografx-16, Dreamcast, and Sega Saturn.
-
@sin2beta, So far I've been lucky finding stuff in the wild. That said, it looks like most of the remaining games will need to come from online.
@jcalder8, I have some pictures of the old arcade floating around in the Game Room thread. I'll post a bunch more photos once everything gets moved into place and brought back from the dead.
@htimreimer, Thanks for the link.

I'd say Sonic with the barcode for a decent price is harder :/
@dstone I'll look at my dupes for SMS... I'll hook you up if I have anything you don't.

You are right. But, to be honest, I find looking for sonic with the sticker just insane. It is the European game with a sticker on it. Personally, I would be hard pressed to even call it a variant. I would just buy the European copy. It is the exact same with the exact same UPC on the box inlay. It came from the same factory and from the same production of games. It just does not have a sticker slapped on the outside.
If you don't care about the sticker, it's all personal taste though, sonic is absurdly cheap.
But Knockout Boxing is legitimately a rare cart. It's not a good game, it is just rare. You don't have the easier to find PAL release. For a long time, hey didn't surface on ebay very much even.
-

I agree with you on that one but then I don't know why Stadium Events isn't considered a variant too.
-
Stadium events has several differences from its PAL counterpart. Unless I am mistaken it won't work in NTSC NES consoles. The PAL-B versions have different instructions. Slightly different box and label art, etc.
Stadium events was repackaged when Nintendo took over the Bandai Family Fun series. And several people do call it a variant with Tack Meet. Others make a distinction from it being a variant by calling it a rerelease and rebranding since another company was in charge. However, I would not have any problem considering it a variant.
How I consider sonic different is that the US release is just European overstock with a UPC sticker placed over the boxes original UPC. They are the European game. Several late master system releases were PAL overstock as there is no region lock. Nintendo did not take Bandai overstock of stadium events and slap a sticker on it. They completely redid the packaging and title.
In short, yes, I consider Stadium Events a variant.
I don't even consider Sonic on the SMS different enough to be a variant. It's the same game.
-
My 2013 goal is to:
1 Complete my boxed collectors edition collection of Zelda
2 Complete my boxed Nintendo collection - have them all loose but missing a few boxes :(
-
I just started collecting like a year ago, and it's hard to collect with not really any expendable money so yeah....
Here are my Game Collection goals for 2013
1. Get a Nintendo 64
2. Buy games for said Nintendo 64

6. Buy games and an action replay for the SEGA Saturn

If you look close enough at your local kijiji/craigslist/facebook games trades, you should be able to find a N64 for a decent price :) I often see them for 30$ in my area, which might not be that much of a deal, but it's still already better than ebay.
Also, welcome to the site ;D
-
Maybe this year I can finish rebuilding my N64 game collection and finally find a bargain 3DO console system that is still functioning. What is it with people down here selling so much junk game hardware. Grrrr.
-
Lets see....
- Buy a CIB copy of Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge to finish off my CIB [NA] collection (Maybe start on variant collecting after that) .
- Work on my Saturn Collection (170 to go in the list) Cancelled

Like, Jobocan I don't really set a ton of goals, but I do have things I want to do collection wise.
Looks like I need more goals...
Hmm
- Buy more JRPGs.
- Buy more SHMUPs
-
I think I'm going to go ahead and add:
Hit 100 games on the GBA, complete :)
This will likely not happen. Oh sure, I'll hit 100 GBA games, but the boxes and manuals might be a stretch. I'm working on that now but some of them are going to be really difficult to find.
-
I guess hitting 100 PS2 games and finishing up rebuying the ones i traded off might be a a respectable goal.
-
Since Scott updated his I'll give an update too.
UPDATED Jan 1st:
For me I really need to slow down and focus on what I want.
1. Hit 2300 games. I am currently at 2192 so that is very doable without going over board.

Also thanks for posting this burningdoom, I love threads like this!
Let's see: 1. I am currently at 2555
2. Bought one and love it
3. I'm up to 23
4. Just hit 500 yesterday :)
-
I'm on the prowl for a Saturn and PC Engine, but apart from that, I'm just trying to chip away at my wishlist, especially the import and old-school side of things. Wouldn't mind snagging a new CRT too, but that will depend heavily on what kind of place my roommate and I move to, which is something we've been looking into for the past few days.
Putting together a new gaming PC too, but that's actually in progress now, as the motherboard and RAM just arrived :)
-
All I'm looking to do is build up a respectable Wii collection. I'm only at 21 right now so I still have a long way to go.
-
I recently just cleaned out and focused my collection to just sega and xbox.

I've actually done pretty well. I finished my tower of power. And my Game Gear games are quickly approaching 75. I'd like to get to 116 (half of a complete set) by the end of the year. But I am starting to get to where finding games in dollar bins that I don't have is getting harder and harder. 99 cent auctions on ebay is still an option, but shipping kills the game price average. I have managed to pick up a few lots. But, I think I may have to buy ebay lots and sell off the dupes to keep the cost at a buck or two a game.
I've picked up a few oXbox games, but not enough. I just recently found out how good ebay and combine ship is for the oXbox. So, things will look better on that.
-
This is the year I finally get my collection organized and displayed. Of course, I said that in 2009, and then had another kid. Then I moved to Germany. Then, Afghanistan. *sigh* I should be back in the States by late summer, and this, besides getting my children settled and starting a new job, is my priority.
-

You have some solid titles, though! Great choices :)

A). Hmm...Since it feels like I've been ordering, pre-ordering, and/or buying 3-DS for a Loooong time -and- seeing as how looking at my collection...it turns out that I own much less games than it "felt" like I *thought* that I should/would have by now...I'm gonna say & set a goal for...*30* 3-DS games by the end of the year.
B). Since my 4th Giclee should be arriving on Mon or Tues, I'm also going to set a goal for myself to have 5 Giclees ("Iris Heart" from Hyperdimension Neptunia: Victory; being the next on my list -AND- having all 5 of them nicely centered, evenly spaced, and hung (all 5-in-a-row") on the bedroom wall that I've 'dedicated' for them 8)
*EDIT*
Actually, ya' know what?
Since it's on my mind -and- since I have more coupons/store-credit to use up...I just went ahead & pulled the trigger on my 2nd goal by ordering the "Iris Heart(s) You" Giclee; which will = #5...so next is the measuring, spacing, arranging, and hanging - that's all more (IMHO) *fun* than it is work-like, though ;D

I enjoy that kind of stuff too. I'm the kind of person that despises the packing - and actual moving of stuff - aspect of moving, but I LOVE taking everything out of boxes and putting things where they go, organizing, hanging stuff. It's an such an indescribable, happy feeling. :)
Those giclees are gorgeous, by the way.

My 2013 gaming goal is to
REACH 500 items in my collection before my 1 year anniversary of joining this site, which is December 27. :)
It seems ambitious but hey can't kill me.
BONUS! I would very much like to obtain an NES 2, I don't think it will happen this year but hey, if it happens yay :)

That could be a tough one on the wallet. What few functioning ones are left, are in the hands of people that know what they have and want as much as they can get from you for the thing. I lucked out and simply found one in a basement of a home I moved into. Perfect shape too.

By NES 2, do you mean a top loader? I see them pop up a lot ... they sometimes cost a bit more than they should but I got lucky on the extra one I picked up. Was $10 but damn that thing was ugly. I had to buy a bit to open it and wash it out and I ended up having to paint it cause of all the cosmetic issues it had. I just wish they had the A/V option the toaster does. I hate R/F plugs and its my only system that uses one.

hmm goals for 2013 I'm going with the following
- Having a larger collection and mainly to reach 666 games (short term goal)
- getting the Onmimishu series on xbox
- finishing off the nes series megaman to move onto snes series megaman
- fixing the Zaxxon Arcade Cabinet and installing the power supply to get it up and running
- collecting some games I've missed this go round because of how expensive they are
there is more but this are my essentials at this time

I don't see the huge appeal of the top loader. It was my first video game console, so I have a lot of memories. But, the RF only is a deal breaker. I know it loads the games really well, but new 72-pins are easy enough to find. The controllers are a different matter though. Those dogbone controllers are great!

I'd love a top-loader. RF isn't that huge of a difference, IMO, when it's just an 8-bit system. And even with a new 72-pin connector on my side-loader, it still doesn't fix the problem 100%, just makes it more manageable.
A bigger downside, IMO, is the loss of a Game Genie. I've heard they're not compatible with top-loaders.

There are top loader game genies but they are definitely not common.
As far as A/V vs R/F, I prefer the A/V simply for the ease of use with splitter boxes and for the durability. Most R/F cables seem to be pretty sketchy on their reliability and end up needing to be replaced.

Well I have only seen one in real life and it cost $70 :/
I doubt I will find one I can afford til I graduate college, but hey a guy can dream. :)

There's another identical thread (for 2014) now ;)

Heh I think he bumped it cause nearly everyone else has quoted themselves on the new thread from this one. So now its just easier to find to quote. :)

Partial, since LoS2 never released yet, looks like no CE for US though, which is super lame.
- Upgrade my shelving, I'm running out of room on the Castelvania shrine. :)
Not bad for 2013. Will post new goals in the 2014 thread.
