Title: Reprinted
Post by: desocietas on January 28, 2013, 01:23:16 pm
Hey all, Atlus just tweeted that they've reprinted all three of the Etrian Odysseys in case you want/need them...
Also, don't forget to preorder EOIV if you want dat music CD...

Nice! Hopefully anyone else that wants them can get them for a reasonable price. I'm STILL waiting for my copy of EO 1 to arrive... hopefully tonight. Jerk didn't post tracking on it.  :-\

I've never played a single entry in the series.

Do you like games like Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Hack or any other 1st person dungeon crawl? It's kinda similar. Only rather than mapping the dungeon on graph paper, you map the dungeon on the lower screen.

Post by: desocietas on January 28, 2013, 03:00:10 pm
Yeah, that was the big selling point about it when the first one came out (utilizing the DS's touch screen) - there was a place for you to draw your own map.  It doesn't draw it out for you as you go like Persona 2 or other dungeon crawlers with a map feature - you have icons and a grid on the bottom screen for you to draw every wall and make notes on, etc.

I'm kinda glad that Atlus is reprinting this and started to wonder if they'll reprint Radiant Historia again (it's sold out on Amazon again), but then again, the bulk of my collection's worth is based on them *not* reprinting their titles ;)

I am really tempted to by them since I missed out on Radiant Historia and I still regret it :(

Haha; I wouldn't say that Etrian Odyssey or Radiant Historia are for *everyone,* but they're both very well made games and should be played/bought if you ever run across any of them for a decent price.

And it's Atlus.  I've really come to love that company for putting out quirky titles and having a good sense of humor with their fans.

I don't know if you're interested in retail data but if you are I receive Atlus data. It's a little interesting to see what retailers pay for each copy, and to see how many copies Atlus has available to sell. Etrian Odyssey costs retailers $23 each and Atlus has around 1500 copies of each to distribute. I can tell on multi-platform games they print a lot more Xbox 360 games than PlayStation 3. I'd imagine other publishers do too so PS3 games are likely a little more rare.

I always wondered about Etrian Odyssey...  I've never played any of them and have only heard the series' name from time to time, so I knew nothing about these games.  Now that you describe it, I'll have to seek some of these out!  Eye of the Beholder is my favourite game ever.  I have very fond memories of mapping out dungeons with my dad on graph paper (old school baby!) when I was a wee one.  :)
Title: Re: Reprinted
Post by: scott on January 29, 2013, 10:04:09 am
Ya, I loved Eye of the Beholder too. Though I was lazy and never mapped anything, so I was always lost and just roamed all over the place. ha.

It was about the closest I could think of as an example too. I've not played a lot of Etrian Odyssey III, because I decided I wanted to start from 1. But I have explored a lot of the 1st level of the dungeon. It seems like it revels in the old school. Classic need of dungeon mapping, a decent amount of difficulty. But, at least in EOIII, I was able to have 1 character tank and the rest of the part was usually pretty safe.

I got another email from Atlus marketing (not sure if they tweet this stuff, probably do), this one actually mentions a rare PS2 game they are about to release again that some of you might be interested in: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner -- Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army. According to this email used copies go for $80 though I have no idea if that's accurate. Anyways, I imagine the value will drop which could be bad if you own it but good if you still need it. It will ship February 18th.

Whoa, I've been looking for that one for ages.  That'd be amazing if it were reprinted because, as you say, I've definitely seen it go for about $80 on eBay and it never really drops below that too much.

EDIT: Thinking about it some more, considering that SMT: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is coming out in April, it would make sense for them to reprint the first Devil Summoner.  Kinda like how they're doing with the Etrian Odyssey series.

Good deduction. The email does state that that is one of the reasons they've decided to release it again, the other being they've received a number of requests for it.

That I do not know. I can tell you the MSRP is $29.99.

I'm not familiar with Wizardry, but after Googling the art, I can see the resemblance!  EO is a little brighter and greener, but yeah, I dig the style a lot even though you never really see your characters.

Both kinda harken back to that old-school roguelike (aka die, puny player!) kind of vibe, which I guess sort of spiritually links EO and Wizardry to stuff like Dark Souls and Baroque. If you're curious though, there is a demo of Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls on PSN - first game in the series to receive a US release since 2001!

I still wish they'd done a physical release, but considering the microscopic market for it, it kinda warms the cockles of my nerd heart that anyone was willing to take a chance on it, let alone release a DLC expansion.

I checked Amazon for Etrian Odyssey 1 this morning, for grins, and it looks like Amazon itself is already sold out of the reprint. Or at least I don't see a listing for it anymore. A couple days ago I had checked it and they still had stock for it. Hope anyone that still wanted to jump on it, was able to!.

Wow, that's fast!  I'm glad people have been looking for that title.  It was a great launch title, and I was so pleased that it did well enough to warrant three more games, considering how "niche" and exclusive people felt it might be.  Hopefully there will be more!

I think I bought my copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army (complete) for about $40 at Vintage Stock this past year...  $80 on Ebay?  That's just insane.

Got some more info from Atlus. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner -- Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army has 1,116 copies shipping this week. Another game, though this one recent, that they are printing more of is the Disgaea 4 premium edition for PS3. There are 900 copies shipping the week of March 4th.

As far as the first post in the topic, all copies of Etrian Odyssey IV that come with the bonus have been sold to retailers so no more should show up after launch (2/26). The replenishment shipment with no bonus hits the week of March 18th.

I don't think so, doubt I'd get the emails if that game was exclusive to any one retailer. It's up to each retailer to order however many copies they want so I suppose Amazon could be the only one that ordered copies but I doubt it. My guess would be that it will be easier to find the game at an online retailer though just because I don't know how many retailers still make shelf space for PS2 games.

Hey, if they're reprinting it, it won't be $80 from the retailer (hopefull)... It might go the route of Radiant Historia.

Yeah, most likely Amazon or another online distributor - it might be like when Atlus made a small reprint of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment for the PS1 in 2008.  That batch was exclusive to Amazon, if anything.

^still kicking myself for not jumping on that reprint

Yeah, that's what made me think it was weird... not sure what caused that price drop unless they knew that the cheaper batch would be unleasehed soon.  Just the other day, they were all listed around $100+ at the cheapest through a third party.

It was supposed to release last week for $29.99; I can't really tell if it did or not though. Do retailers have to stick to MSRP? I would think they should to keep the game publisher happy.

I'm logged into a distributor's website right now and while they don't have any in stock, they list the release date as yesterday.

Haha, yeah, I was pretty lucky.  It was in the beginning of my realization of "Oh, wait, Atlus really likes its fans and does cool things for them every once in a while!"  I think it might've been right after me ignoring the email about the Persona 2: EP PS1 reprint...

Also I've always liked plushies.  So that was an easy score with me.

Since I got into SMT really by chance, it took me awhile to really "get" how they roll, but my basic feeling about them is they're basically one of the most fan-friendly companies evar. I don't have any plushies yet, but the Catherine "Love is Over" box is pretty ridiculous and awesome :)

Anyone tired of my Atlus posts  :D I'll admit they aren't the most interesting but I've got more numbers.

Raidou Kuzunoha vs The Soulless Army: 1,716 copies shipping 3/25
Raidou Kuzunoha vs King Abaddon: 1,524 copies shipping 3/25

I could actually provide numbers on many more but I think these are the only old game reprints upcoming. They still have a small supply of Etrian Odyssey and Etrian Odyssey II in stock but we can't order directly from them so that's of no use.

Hay guys, looks like Devil Summoner 2 is up and on sale, at least on Amazon Marketplace. Strangely, the only sellers I've seen so far are Play Canada (grrrr), and a handful of other oddballs. Nothing from Amazon itself, GameStop, Game Quest Direct, etc.

I wound up grabbing one from Play Canada, even though I'd have preferred to go elsewhere and still want the plushie, but I know I'd be kicking myself if I didn't jump on this juuuuust in case.

Hopefully another distributor comes into play, like how they did with DDS1.  Play Canada was nice when I asked about a refund (and sent a prompt reply), but the time it took for them to actually ship the item to my doorstep took forever.

Speaking of reprinted, it looks like the Ace Attorney games (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ace+attorney) have all been reprinted and are selling for about $20.  I didn't really care for the Miles Edgeworth game but I guess I should pick one up to round out the collection.

The other ones were all great, in my opinion. If you haven't played them yet *cough*SCOTT*cough*, you should definitely check it out.

I guess they're like visual novels/puzzles...?  Not sure of a better way to put it.  They're not like Professor Layton in terms of puzzles.

Arghh, I wish I could do the Phoenix Wright stuff, too. I'm down enough on funds as it is because it's bill paying time :/

I've hardly been posting anything lately but I have info on those same Devil Summoner titles again. Did everyone who wanted one find them? The info I have isn't a big deal, just that Atlus still has them in stock so retailers can still order copies. They've got 755 copies of The Soulless Army and 636 copies of King Abaddon, and they aren't printing any more beyond that. They also still have 2,352 launch copies of Soul Hackers so if you still plan on getting that you should be able to find a copy with the music CD bonus.

Yeah, I see they're still in stock on Amazon (or through Amazon Marketplace); I think I'm good on my copies of both PS2 Devil Summoners.  I might have too many copies of the first one, actually, 'cause I was too lazy to return the one I overpaid on...

Thanks for the update!  Good to know if anyone's still thinking about it...
