Title: Shining Force III Translation Project
Post by: scott on August 09, 2011, 10:40:59 am
While on the GameFaqs message boards I found a thread leading me to a translation project for Shining Force III. Apparently there has been a major fan project going for a while now, not to only fully translate both Scenario 2 and 3 of Shining Force III into English, but fix the translation for Scenario 1. You put the original discs into your PC and run their patch program, it spits out a new set of files on your PC. These you can either run on your PC via emulator, or burn it to a disc and run it on a modded Saturn. Pretty neat stuff.

Here's the site: http://sf3trans.shiningforcecentral.com/introduction/

Also here is the discussion I was reading on GameFaqs. Does a pretty good job of explaining it.

I wish I knew Japanese!  Looks like a really cool project... I never did play any of the Shining Forces... might have to look into it (whenever I'm done with my RPG backlog...? ugh...)

I'm thinking of teaching myself Japanese. At least to be able to read imported games or understand the original dialog in anime. If you were thinking of trying out the Shining Force games, 1, 2 and Shining in the Darkness are on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

Tested it with my US copy of SFIII, since that's the version you need for part one. Everything worked perfectly fine! Kinda neat, but I'll go back to playing part 1 on my Saturn and TV instead.

I love the fact that there is fan dedication so deep that we can get translations across so many games. I just played Mother 3 in English and have FFXII International and Dragon Quest V on PS2 ready to play.

I'm thinking of learning Japanese as well. I've toyed with it a bit and honestly, the language isn't too difficult. The reading/writing, however, is completely ridiculous.

You'll have to emulate it or run it on a Dingoo/GBA flash card but it's totally worth a play.

Mother 3 was very good. And if Matty still has that Saturn Gameshark, this could be an excellent purchase.

I don't know anything about DF, but that video was so epic.  Definitely something for me to look into further.  Thanks for sharing!

@desocietas Dragon Force is pretty sweet. It has different stories for every player character, tons of army units and I guess the best example I can think of is Romance of the Three Kingdoms type play. I'm totally hyped about this translation!
