Title: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Post by: darko on August 24, 2011, 10:26:24 am
I'm seeing some really positive feedback for this game online. I'm thinking about picking it up tonight. It looks like a first-person Metal Gear Solid. Anyone played it yet? If so, what do you think?

I've never played a single Dues Ex game. I heard really good things about the original, but then the series kinda dropped off after the 1st sequel. I may check out the demo and see what it's all about.

I've never played them either. I've heard GOTY contender from more than one reviewer.

The original is one of the best games I've ever played and I'm super pumped for the new ones...which is excited because I rarely get excited for new games.

Same here. I was a little excited about Dragon Age II but it's still unwrapped on my shelf. I might actually be able to get into this from looking at the in-game footage.

I haven't played any of them but there has definately been tons of hype about this. I'm gonna have to look into it, game footage and such.

I find that its really difficult to buy new games, there is so much released all the time. There always seems to be a holiday where people spend all their money around the corner, thus so many games being released all the time.

This is really gonna be a case of having an extra.penny and no good games on the shelves.around it unfortunately. I feel like I miss out on great games because if this...

I was super pumped about the first Dragon Age, but after I played it for a bit, I haven't gone back to it.  Maybe I just need to try with a different class?  Healer class probably wasn't the best way to start off, especially since I'm not super familiar with PC RPGs...

I played through DA: O as a Damage dealer warrior, and let Alaistar tank for my party. Next I'm gonna try mage I think. Played all the origins and I still love the Noble dwarf the most.

on an on topic note, I'm prolly gonna DL the Dues Ex demo tonight.

@desocietas It's actually a really good game. You should give it another shot!

@matt Cool. Let us know what you think!

I'm having my wisdom teeth pulled in two hours... maybe this weekend would be a good time to get back into that one.

Oh, the backlog! *weeps*

Ha. My roommate just had that done. He was good to go with all foods in a week and was perfectly fine (other than sleepy) right after he was done.

You'll have plenty of gaming time.

Mine were a nightmare that I will wait to share until after you're all healed up...

Someone should definitely update us when they play through some of the game. I enjoyed the original (on PS2), and this thread is making me curious about the new one.

I'm picking the game up at a redbox on my way home. I'll give everyone an opinion tomorrow. I really want the European and Australian Collector's Edition so I figured I'll give the game a test before I drop the money to have one of those shipped to me.

I picked up the Augmented Edition on greenmangaming for 40$ (due to a coupon code). I'm not very far through it yet (played the intro and the first mission) but it's definitely interesting. Still getting used to the cover system, but otherwise it seems very solid (this coming from someone who rarely likes FPS). Watched a friend play on his save a bit and there were definitely some cool elements there.
I may give a more detailed impression later on :P

I managed to play a few hours this evening. I just made it out into the city envitonment for the first time. I'm pretty impressed to be honest. Imagine smashing together Metal Gear and Mass Effect with a dash of Splinter Cell and Square's influence. I'm obviously not very far but I'm buying it for sure. I can already tell that the story is going to get really deep and twisted which I enjoy and the gameplay is actually fun. Plenty of stealth and/or shooting to be had, both are fun and effective thus far.

Well I've sunk a few hours into it and so far i like it a lot. I know the goal is to be sneaky but i just don't find it as fun as shooting everyone :P

Sneaking takes a lot longer and is actually fairly difficult. I like it though.

Forgot to update: Mine went off without a hitch, but I guess after multiple gum surgeries, that was pretty much a piece of cake.  Soft, bloody cake, more like, but still easy!

I want to hear these storieeeees!

@desocietas Oh man, they knocked me out for mine, I woke up on my couch at home, hours later. I still don't remember leaving the office. I hope I didn't let out any government secrets.... Did they give you yours to keep? They did for me, I bring them out for the gross factor on occasion. ;)

I got knocked out but woke up promptly after 30 min.  My brother drove me home, and while he killed some time watching Jurassic Park 3, I made myself some Spaghetti Os and changed my gauze.

I wanted to keep mine! But I didn't have a chance to ask the doctor, and other friends had told me they've been told "no" because of biohazard reasons.

Basically, the meds they gave me for pain made me sick. I threw up on my way home from the surgery and developed dry sockets almost immediately from it. It took me 2 weeks to recover and I couldn't start taking the pain meds again for 2 days without throwing up. It was brutal.

Ugh, that sucks... A friend of mine had a similar issue... threw up, which caused all her stitches to break.  Sorry to hear it, @darko!  Good thing you'll never have to do that again...

Ha. Luckily they're still gone :)

The only other shitty medical thing I've had done is having a mole removed from the top of my scalp. Apparently my skin is "like a 12 year olds" so it was too tight to keep the stitches in place. Long story short, I have a dime sized divot on the very top of my head....and I'm going to be bald someday. Now I'm going to have to get plastic surgery on my freaking scalp :(

Had my wisdom teeth surgically removed when I was 17.. Back in April 2000.. The top ones were pulled but the bottom ones were cut out with a saw since they were grown into the bone. I was out for 5 hours. Only time I've ever been pur under.

5 hours... damn.  I had tubes put into my eardrums when I was 8 or so, but don't know how long I was out for.  Did they have to cut from the outside of your cheek or... ugh, I realize this is a pretty disgusting OT segue...

And @darko, that sucks about the scalp!  Maybe in the future they can get the skin to regrow in the area...

I think it's funny you all are discussing this stuff...I just returned to work this week after having my gall bladder removed...not fun. I couldn't even focus on games for the couple months before surgery, nor the three weeks after, meaning I feel way behind on my gaming now.

I did learn that strong pain meds and 80's cartoons are a glorious mix. The Real Ghostbusters FTW!

Back on track :p

I'm in china right now and once im don't all the missions I want to kill everyone in the map. Do i ever have to go back?

Yeah, you revisit each area at least once during the storyline, and that's as much as I can share without spoilers.

Is the recovery affecting your time with Layton?  And that's funny about the pain meds and the 80s cartoon, but it makes so much sense...  What do they have you on?  They gave me Percocet for the wisdom teeth, but thankfully I was able to do just fine with Advil.  In case anyone's in the market for some Percocet... ;)

I'm fairly recovered now...and I've had plenty of time with Layton. (Planning on finishing the main game tonight, actually.)

The sad thing is that I'm still only about 5 hours in on Devil Survivor: Overclocked, and I picked up Bit.Trip Saga and the trippy-ness didn't go well with the Vicodin, so I've maybe put in an hour? And those three are the only games I've picked up since June, so my Christmas list this year is long and my backlog is growing.

You mean, it didn't enhance the gameplay? ha

Oh it enhanced it...to the point that I turned on the game and got nauseous immediately. That's some fancy gameplay right there! /sarcasm
