Title: PAX 2011
Post by: desocietas on August 26, 2011, 12:38:13 pm
Anyone going/there?  I've been wanting to go for years, but the plans have never fully materialized (and it's in an iffy time of year - right before our school semester starts).  They always seem to have some really excellent swag there, too...

Nope :(
I always want to go to these things but I'm always too busy.
Alex and i do plan on Comiccon and Vidcon next year, we'll see how that plays out.

I'm definitely envious about the Dragon Quest giveaways going on at the Nintendo booth: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=152840328133762&set=a.151464631604665.38309.119240841493711&type=1&theater#!/media/set/?set=a.151464631604665.38309.119240841493711&type=1

I wish I had been able to go to PAX.... The Castle Crashers stuff alone would have been worth the trip.

I went to PAX this year, just got home yesterday.....man was it awesome! Got tons of Nintendo swag and the Halofest section was unbelievable. I played the Anniversary Edition Halo that comes out in November, and let me assure you, that game will blow your mind.

The Castle Crashers stuff was amazing, they custom built a huge arcade machine that has space for 4 players to play VERY comfortably on a super widescreen display. I'll post some pics of it here in a bit. They also had little CC figures, but they wanted 20 each for them :[

Lucky!  Totally envious.  And those figurines (http://www.merchlackey.com/thebehemoth/figurines.php) seem to be out of stock currently on the site, but would've been cool to not have to pay for shipping and such at the booth.  Would be cool if they made a figurine for the pink knight, too!

They had a smaller pink knight available via a Japanese capsule machine that they brought. You bought 300 Japanese Yen for 5 dollars, put the coins in, and got your knight. Those figures were really cool, but I can't start collecting anything else at this point, or I'll have a second residence filled with my collections like on hoarders.

That pink knight is the cutest: http://www.gamerevolution.com/news/get-castle-crashers-lovelove-pink-knight-for-free-8035
Now I wanna go home and play.
I don't think I would've been able to pass up the figurine, but I guess it depends on how small it was and how it looked. Pics?

I've actually been playing a bit again lately. Castle Crashers has to be one of my all time Favorites. I saw pics of that Arcade machine before and it is the coolest thing ever, almost makes me want to build a traditional 4 player cab dedicated to it. ;)

btw if anyone wants to play coop Crashers, hit me on Live. GT = Wyrmm

@brettybluevein, those pics are great - thanks!  The cab looks amazing... probably the best way to really play that game.  Classic stuff, like the Simpsons arcade game.
Sweet, @scott, I might hit you up on that soon.  My gt is the same as my name on the forum.

I love that anything Lego-fied is immediately a hit (for me, at least).  The swag looks great!  And that photo you took of the AR cards in action is one of the best 2-D photos I've seen of the 3DS... I don't know why the pre-3DS-release previews always had such terrible images (or none at all).

Thanks so much for the photos!  I really, really want to go.  If anyone does a road trip next year that passes through my part of California, let me know!

Wow, you really made out on the Nintendo swag!

As far as the Pink Castle Crasher, PAX East for the win (it seems):

I think my favorite part about it is that Dan drew me a little Alien Hominid when I told him how much of my college life was spent playing 4-player PDA Games while drinking, and how violent we were with it.  My husband got the Green Crasher and just had the guys draw the Hominid instead of the Crasher, and they went all out with it.

Awesome, @amauriel!  I'm totally envious.  If you get a chance, can you take a picture of your husband's Green knight?  Those drawings are great - I'd love to see more.

I am also! I've always wanted a set of the Castle Crashers knights on my desk. :(

We're planning on going back to PAX East in March...if anyone wants to get together beforehand or go out together or whatever, let's get a thread together for that!

I'm being cheap and waiting for CC to go on sale on XBLA... in the meantime, I think I'll purchase Catan (50% off!)...  thought of you guys when I found this on the dev blog:

If I could find a way for a 360 or PS3 to boot straight into the game I'd be building one of my own in a heartbeat. Having to open the application from the dashboard is so lame and un-pro.

Actually, you can boot to disc on the 360 and bypass the dashboard.  I think it's in the settings...  http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/19/xbox-360-mandatory-update-restores-boot-to-disc-detains-call-of/
Ah.. but you can't do it for CC because it's a download... blast!

Yup. If they had released it on Steam also this would be a non-issue. I already know how to boot a program on start up and completely hide Windows.
