Title: Let's Name the Top 100 Sega Dreamcast Game Together!

Sega's final console. It's life was lived short and fast, but in that time a ton of great games were still released for it. It still had tons of potential left in it when the plug was pulled. So let's name our favorites of Sega's swan-song.
This works the same as the other "Let's Name" lists.
Rules: -Please add only 1 game per post. -Please allow others to post before posting again (to prevent this from becoming 1 person's list) -Please do not repeat games that have already appeared on the list. -This list is not supposed to be in order of greatest-to-least-greatest, it's a build-as-we-go list. -Multiple entries from the same series are acceptable. For example, if someone has already listed Digital Devil Saga, you can still list Digital Devil Saga 2.

Doesn't the Dreamcast have less than 250 total games in the US? I know there are plenty of more in Japan but a list of 100 seems difficult.

Pay attention. There's going to be a few. Dreamcasts are cheap too. There are a ton of arcade-y games that are a real good time.

Oh, did Capcom ever support the Dreamcast. Capcom, SNK, and SEGA all pumped out games. Most of which were close to arcade perfect. Those are three of my favorite developers/publishers and that support is the main reason the Dreamcast is my favorite console. It's probably the most Capcom supported system outside the NES and the most SNK supported system outside the Neo Geo. Beyond that, it is probably SEGAs best first-party support outside of the Genesis. Although, I have not looked at the numbers.

Are you guys running out of games? I'd say the list has at least a few weak games and a number of average games but we clearly all enjoy different types of games. I can probably add a few sequels to games already on the list, and there are other decent games that I might suggest simply because we're going to 100. I never did get too far in Metropolis Street Racer but I think it's a good game. There is one game I'm surprised hasn't made it to the list yet. I didn't play enough of it to suggest it, I just thought it was popular. Not saying what it is so that I don't influence someone's pick.

But the difference with the Dreamcast vs. other short-lived consoles is that the Dreamcast had lots of support from both Sega and third-parties. It had a large library. And many companies continued to make games even after Sega had pulled the plug. Dreamcast has a VERY large library in comparison to other consoles of the same lifetime.
We're over 70 now, and we seem to be listing good games just fine. I don't see crap filling this list.

Are you guys running out of games? I'd say the list has at least a few weak games and a number of average games but we clearly all enjoy different types of games. I can probably add a few sequels to games already on the list, and there are other decent games that I might suggest simply because we're going to 100. I never did get too far in Metropolis Street Racer but I think it's a good game. There is one game I'm surprised hasn't made it to the list yet. I didn't play enough of it to suggest it, I just thought it was popular. Not saying what it is so that I don't influence someone's pick.
Personally I think 100 games is overkill for a system that lasted less than two years. That's over 40% of the domestic library. I think 50 would have been more appropriate. However, I still have a few since imports are open. But "best" kind of loses its meaning when half the games are listed as the "best". Technically, this would be "above average". So, mathematically, this is the 100 above average Dreamcast games.
But the difference with the Dreamcast vs. other short-lived consoles is that the Dreamcast had lots of support from both Sega and third-parties. It had a large library. And many companies continued to make games even after Sega had pulled the plug. Dreamcast has a VERY large library in comparison to other consoles of the same lifetime.
We're over 70 now, and we seem to be listing good games just fine. I don't see crap filling this list.

According to Wikipedia, it had 720 games released for it. Yeah, it's not the PS2 or the Atari 2600 as far as game quantity. But considering the it was only 2 years and got that many games, is amazing. And we're not talking about other "lesser" systems like 3DO, CD-i, or Atari Jaguar here, which really did have miniscule game libraries.

The 720 is a horrible number. That includes all releases (kind of... it's horribly inconsistent), rather variant, region, special edition, or even web browser versions. NTSC-U is looking at ~250 games. Not 720.

So it either needs to add all of the Limited Editions and Variants, or remove titles like Sonic Adventure Limited Edition, and Sonic Adventure 2 Birthday Pack. Also, What's Shenmue is not an actual game release. It doesn't have a game catalog serial number. It has another type of catalog number that is comprised of single digits and no letters. What's Shenmue is actually considered a promo item; more along the lines of a Demo disc than an actual game release. It would go in a completly different listing. Also, notice that US Shenmue listed as a seperate entry than Shenmue, which in reality is the same exact game.
I could go on nitpicking all of the contradicting information in Wikipedia, but I think you get my point. The list on Wikipedia is not 100% correct. It is incomplete and has errors. [\quote]

Wherever the number may land between 250 and 720, it's still plenty enough to do 100 good games and a whole lot more than other consoles with a comparable lifespan.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong. I love the dreamcast. I came in with the machismo of saying this list should be 200 long. The Dreamcast is the only system I am planning on pursuing a complete set of. But the top 100 will be a bit of overkill and have some good games. The SNES list for instance was pretty much all gems. That's my only point with the numbers.

You guys are a bit impatient, huh ;) Over the weekend two of you put in the last ten picks. Still nobody has mentioned what I thought was one of the top games on the system, perhaps I'm mistaken. I'll add it if I get another pick. I had to go with The Typing of the Dead this time since I did have fun with it. It's much more intense trying to type fast enough to kill zombies than to use a light gun.

Ok. I don't read the forums over the weekend too much myself, and I tend not to post on these lists more than once a day but this list did start losing steam last week.
