Title: About to make a Craigslist run
Post by: turf on March 23, 2013, 01:13:51 pm
I'm about to drive about an hour for a Craigslist find. This involves Earthbound, but it seems a little fishy. What else am I going to do on a Saturday? Clean house? I have a 50/50 feeling that I'm getting trolled, and a small hunch they may try to rob me. I'm not going to meet anyone at their house. That shit ain't happening. Wish me luck. I'll let you know how it goes. If you don't hear from me by tomorrow night, check the obituaries.

It's sad that buying videogames has turned into a drug deal. You need a heavy to go with you just in case shit pops off.

I'm happy I live in Canada, I don't have to worry about getting shot the one time a year I find a great game deal.

no but do have to worry about getting killed by a machete, here in saskatchewan , we've already have had 4 or 5 machete attacks and apparently it's the new weapon of choice in canada

I bought an arcade machine from a meth house once. How do I know it was a meth house? The guy asked me if I was a cop....no. Then he asked me if I was cool....um, sure. So I go inside and they're literally packaging it up for sale in the living room.
On a positive note, I got the cab for practically nothing and the guy was super friendly after he realized I wasn't some game collecting informant.

Well, it was a bust. Dude wouldn't meet me. I'm just too nervous to go to some apartment complex. I left my number. Maybe he'll change his mind later this week.

lol. I've never seen anything that bad. I tend to go to people's houses a lot. But I usually show up in motorcycle gear and feel fairly well protected most times. Usually, if someone wants to rob someone or kill someone they will minimize any paper trail. Even craigslist ads.

I'm wasn't really worried about anyone trying to kill me, but getting robbed is a real threat. I've been to plenty of people's houses to get stuff off of Craigslist. Call me uppity or whatever, but I take different risks in different neighborhoods. I wasn't going to dudes apartment today.

Of course. You can never be too careful.

I know it's odd/risky going and meeting people to look at peoples pocketwatches. when they call and want to make a place to meet i always make it a slightly busy parking lot.But then again they get my name from somewhere so they have to atleast be somewhat legit. Not alot of people out there looking to rob someone who deals in pocketwatches(to random)

I had a similar CL situation yesterday -- found someone selling a Chrono Trigger for $50, claiming it was worth $250 in the post. I called about it and we agreed to meet in public, but then he shifted the meeting to his apt. Then he said the price was supposed to be $120 but was listed on CL wrong, though he'd still sell it to me for $50 ???
He also had a Super Bases Loaded for $50, claiming it's worth $75. :o So the whole thing didn't sit right and I let it go.

yea the craigslist killer has made me pretty aware of the little things I do like not telling anyone where I'm going when going on a craigslisting...

I always meet in a public area and if that won't work then I have someone come with me and wait in the car. Also I never go into the house, I just stand at the front door, there is no reason to have to go inside.

This thread is a bit funny because I'm considering using Craigslist to sell half of my boxed PC game collection to someone semi-local. >_>
I swear I'm not a killer, really.

Slightly off topic, but an amusing anecdote, nonetheless:
A friend was selling his motorcycle on cl, so I went with him to the meet as muscle. I geared up, wore my scariest biker clothes, and off we went. When we arrived, the buyer had brought his two attractive daughters, Who talked to us about how much they liked dirtbiking, and how maybe we could help them learn to ride sometime .
I don't know how much he talked my friend down, but needless to say, the buyer won the negotiations that day.

Well, it turns out there's a reason my wife was so against me going to that dude's house to buy Earthbound for $80. Even though it was a great price, it was still too much to pay for something she had already bought. So, she had me all worked up and paranoid over nothing.

I just looked at that. It appears to be a store's inventory more than a collection. I could be wrong however but the way its all there, it looks like how Game Xchange has their stuff.

Dude, the craigslist ad is down, but didn't it look like the room in this episode of GameChasers in Houston (skip to around 11:30) When they went in the room, it automatically brought me back to this thread:
