Title: Games listed pre-release.
Post by: ffxik on April 05, 2013, 05:44:28 am
As the title states games listed per-release are showing up on the site.  I know it's usually not a problem and it is something we do to aspire to have a complete collection database.

I was adding some games to my collection when I found this.

http://vgcollect.com/item/18497 (http://vgcollect.com/item/18497)

I'm pretty sure this is jumping the gun a bit too much.  Especially for a game that so far is surviving on hopes and dreams alone.   Even going so far to dig up fake artwork.

I don't know maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill.   :-\

You aren't.

If anything, I'd delete the artwork. The listing is unfortunately acceptable under our site rules. ^^;

Maybe it shouldn't be possible to add an unreleased game in your collection (unless it's a prototype, of course)? It's pretty ridiculous for someone to have Versus XIII in their collection when the game is probably never coming out.

Yeah, this shouldn't be in the database at all. I'm fine with people adding upcoming games, as long as there has been a release date announced, but this is completely different.

Yeah. I don't agree with announced games being added, unless there is an official release date either.

I'll pretty much echo scott. I'm fine with stuff that has some semblance of a release date, or if it's already out in Japan, has been confirmed for US or EU release, but announced games change on a dime. I can understand games like The Last Guardian and Dragon's Crown, that have been subject to changed and cancelled dates, but that's a bit of a different scenario.

As for Versus, at the rate Square Enix is going, we'll be lucky if it doesn't eventually materialize as a pachinko game for mobile phones.

Wonder if I make an entry for DW VII 3DS and DQX that Square Enix would go ahead and localize them!

My thoughts *Exactly*.

I merged Diablo III for PC and the supposed PS3 edition in with each other multiple times, before there was an official announcement from Blizzard on the PS3 release. But, even with the official announcement, I'm hesitant to have a PS3 entry in the database.

Here's the thing. Even if we delete the entry, someone else will add it again.

I wish we had a block list for game names or something. "THIS GAME DOESN'T EXIST, STOP ADDING IT"

Apparently that's all kingsaul has.

kingsaul, if you're reading this, please direct me to the dimensional rift where you found this game. If I'm lucky, I might be able to find copies of Thrill Kill, Sadness or the English version of the original Mother there. I would be forever in your debt.

I've seen a number of unreleased games in people's collections. I'm not sure if they mean to put it on their wishlist or they just add them since they know they are going to buy them if they ever get released. I can't remember all of the titles off hand but just search upcoming games and you'll find them:

... Some of those games sound really interesting. I'll have to look into those. Regardless, placing a game that's never been released in your collection is... kinda dumb.  :P Adding something to your wish list is another story.

Any interesting (back)story to it?!

There's a story behind it, but it's not very interesting. Growing up, a friend of mine decided "Doctor" would be the perfect nickname for me. I haven't the slightest clue why, as I never expressed any interest in medical science and was generally something of a braindead spaz, but it somehow stuck, even after we drifted apart. The "laudanum" half is just there because I like the word. It's not a reference to Amnesia, as many people think.

My stories are just so very riveting, I know.  ;D

@Dr.L -

That's actually quite a *Laudable* back-story, compared to my non-existent one!

With a (plain, generic, and *very* self-explanatory) user-name myself - I really don't have much room to talk  :o

I also like the word "Laudanum"...and, for that matter...I like the word "Absinthe", too :P

(Kind of a quick, 'free-association' with/from the word "Laudanum")...Hmm...now I'm thinking..."Wormwood" & "Dilaudid" (*NOT*) "Diluted":), too  :-\

Guess it all makes sense...kinda'...in my *unique* mind it does, at least  8)

My guess is those people have pre-orders pending, and rather than leave them in the wishlist, they just opted to move them to their collections. That's what I tend to do, anyway. I'd suggested we have an "on order" list for occasions like that, but it didn't seem to gain much interest.

Can you pre-order a game that doesn't even have a release date listed yet?

Actually, you can in some cases. Particularly with Amazon, they'll often list games who have the specific date up in the air as coming out on December 31st of a given year, but you can pre-order them - sometimes at a nice $10-20 discount if you get in at the right time.

Don't you have to put a minimum amount of money down, to pre-order it? That's how it works at GameStop.

No money down in most cases, and even GameStop only has you put money down if you go into the store. Online pre-orders don't charge a dime until they ship, same with Best Buy.

Yeah, what Erik said :)

It was pre-ordered from Amazon, so no, they haven't asked for/taken/charged me any $ in advance.

I didn't know that you could pre-order online for GameStop for free. Then why do they require money down at the store?

I try to avoid shopping at GS, but if I had to guess, they probably require money down because it's easier to track credit/debit info on customers via the website than at local stores. Helps reduce the possibility of excess pre-order stock laying around at individual locations.

Just found this funny. I was looking at something on Facebook (a contest between cancelled foods) and when I clicked on the link, this was the advertisement on the side of the page : http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ZK9QBY/ref=dra_a_cs_ss_hn_it_P1300_1000?tag=dradis-20
