"User/Member-Reviews"?!
I know that this site's 'mission' is the collection & access to accurate data -but- (as evidenced by our community), IMHO, we'd have a great & diverse group of people to post either "mini-reviews", "reviews", or just plain old "thoughts/after-thoughts/opinions" of the games they're playing.
I'm thinking that, (if you don't want anything *formal*; like that)...maybe something like a 'sister-thread' to the "What are you playing" thread - along the lines of "What did you think of what you just finished playing"? thread...
...or...even just some sort of summarization/thoughts post in the "VGAnonymous" topic?
Personally, I'd like the idea of having a 'section' of their own for these -no extra "awards" or anything for contributing/not contributing...just a place for anyone who wants to post something like this to do so.
Again (contrasted to like a "G*Faqs" where you get the same reviewers reviewing the same series, genres, and systems *Repeatedly*); I think that since we have such an awesomely diverse group of members playing varied games & genres...on systems new & old = the potential for a nice & interesting review section.
Also/lastly - we're still a small/close enough site & group where, I'd say, we all pretty much have a good idea of who likes/plays & has similar tastes to ourselves...it'd be easy to know what to read and by who...depending on the game/genre we might be interested in reading more about if we're on the fence about something...
...thoughts?

i did ask about this before but i forgot the answer

I *thought* that I'd seen it around here somewhere before...

I think this could be a pretty good idea. Since everyone have a lot of varied genres and games, they could be more honest about both the good parts and the bad parts of games without being forced to as score and/or a policy.

That's exactly what I was thinking, too :)

I have brought this up a few times also like on the ideas for the site and what not
-
I'll be the odd one out and say I'm not a fan, mainly because member reviews tend to clutter things up unnecessarily, and implementing them opens up a huge door for spammers. I'm not even really interested in having a ratings system.
I guess my thinking is that if I want someone's opinion on a game, there are plenty of other places for it, including the forums.

i have an idea for this and its in step by step mode
(1) make a category, call it something like member/user game opinions or member/user game reviews
(2) every game will be its own topic, if its a series of games put it into one topic
(3) in these topics member's can talk about what they think of a game and talk about why they agree or disagree with another member
this is the only way to reduce the clutter that category like this can bring up.

^ what htmreimer said. Much more manageable, and less all over the place. Plus, I've noticed that forum reviews, people tend to be less wishy-washy about it - there aren't so many "this game sucks lol, haloz 4 lyfe" type posts.

Yeah - Now, I'm thinking that it doesn't even really need its own thread/forum/topic...
...instead - maybe just including it as part of the "What are you playing?" topic.
When you post there -if you're so inclined- as you're finishing-up one game/starting a new one, just simply type/comment whatever-the-hell-you-want-to (good and/or bad) about the game that you're finishing 8)
-
I think I did that with Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Probably could have summed it up as "I am having fun, but character faces look like child porn, but not as bad as Infinite Undiscovery."
If only all reviews were so straightforward.

I don't really want a write a review that would get a little annoying and hard to keep track of cleaning up spammers, but all I wanted was a 1-10 star rating system like a quick review of how much u liked the game

We have this in a way. A few members have blogs. Kimimi has a nice blog. I have been toying with the beginnings of a Game Gear resource since I am one of the few serious Game Gear collectors. Especially since some of the big people just sold off their collections... :(
If the site did do a user review section, I think the forum would become really cluttered. If we did stuff through the forum, I would like to see a link at the bottom of each game in the database that would take you to the forum topic. A 1-10 rating could be nice as well.
The other option is if you want to know about a game, post a topic. I for one would not mind seeing a few more topics.
-
I think putting the reviews in the forums could be a little confusing. We could maybe put a side-tab on the game itself, with reviews being a seperate entity from the database, which itself could be moderated for reviews that are interesting and detaliled; not just game bashing and/or 1 sentence reviews.
-
Reviews are nifty in their own way. Just dont let me write one "This game sucks more than an army of Dysons led by Tom Green"

I'd just like to give a thumbs up on kimimi's blogs. It sometimes seems like her posts about weird obscure stuff are overlooked, but the stuff she posts up really is a treasure trove. It's a good reminder of why most corporate gaming sites suck :p
Just curious, but who else on vgc has a blog? I'd be curious to read some of them.
-
I'm flattered, thank you! It's true that my posts often get overlooked, but that comes with the territory - writing about 360 FPS's or cosplay parades would get me far more hits for a lot less work, but that's just not what I want to show people.
As for the topic at hand - I'd ditch reviews and have low-word-count personal opinions instead; sounds like a different name for the same thing (and it is), but I think that'd keep it more informal and is less likely to annoy.

Having known both Kimimi (and her blog)...hmmn...can't resist..."A Girl And Her Blog" -
/cheesy word-play
...for a pretty good while now - I'll have to 2nd Eric by giving them each another 'thumbs-up'!
