Title: BS the legend of Zelda
Post by: slothingXPIG on May 12, 2013, 11:56:43 pm
So I was looking on ebay a while ago back when this game was down around 10$ I bidded a few times... what the hell is it? I thought it would be cool to own a snes game called BS the legend of Zelda: Ancient stones. My guess is that it's a homebrewed game?

It's a version of Zelda that was only released via Satellaview in Japan. Somebody has compiled the ROMS and made them available in cartridge form. It's a couple years old.

By the way, what the hell is your avatar picture?? It freaks me the hell out...

BS Zelda is a series of games that were released on the Satellaview, a satellite modem adaptor, for the super Famicom. Basically what Nintendo did was release a slightly different version of A link to the past with harder dungeons and new items, for download through the satellaview. Its pretty neat if you're into Zelda

Roo from Clan of the Grey Wolf explains it pretty well.  The BS games have always interested me.

There's a rom version of it floating around the internet, that's free. I wouldn't consider it pirating, either, since there's no other way to play this other than fan-made carts with that same rom on it.

It's actually not difficult to find people that make repro carts of this game for cheaper than that sold on ebay. Typically SNES repro carts will go for around $50 to $60. I know you can get it here for $63: http://www.gamereproductions.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=3

Whoever bought that one in the ebay auction got ripped off.

They make excellent products but their turnaround time is very slow (30-35 days, sometimes longer). Though as far as repros go http://timewalkgames.com/ is the absolute best quality.

But that's somewhat off-topic, I guess. I have played one of the BS Zelda games. It isn't revolutionary or anything, it's basically just the original Zelda but everything is in different locations.

Just popping in to share the Timewalk Games love. I've bought a few games from them, and although it does take awhile for the game to reach you, it's definitely worth it. They put a LOT of love and effort into each of their games, and have some really cool supplementary stuff if you're willing to pay a little extra. Couldn't tell you how happy I was to finally have physical English language copies of Sweet Home and Clock Tower: The First Fear.

EDIT: And I just clicked through to see how much that person paid for that game. Yikes. They really did get ripped off.

That is just the 16 bit remake of the original.  The one on eBay is The Legend of Zelda Ancient Stone Tablets.

Repro carts are usually REALLY REALLY high on ebay.  I've looked a few times because I want it right then, and I don't want the hassle of sending in a doner cart.  I'm a lazy bastard though.
