This topic pops up every now and then, but we have several new faces (avatars?) since it last made its rounds.
What's the best deal you've found out there in your gaming hunts?
I have a few. It is either:
PS3 for $5
or
the 2 different times I've bought Panic Restaurant for $3 & $5
or
Caltron 6-in-1 for $5
-
PS3 for $5
YOU GOT A PS3 FOR $5?! can i have it? :'(
-
James "buster" Douglas knockout boxing on the Master System for $2
Also for $5 a boxed N64 with 9 games which included Pokemon Stadium 2 and Super Smash bros
-
PS3 for $5
Oooh, I got mine for $20.
-
I got a set of great TG-16 games, that I no longer have because my first TG-16 my cat broke, for under $20 on eBay. I'd never get a deal like that ever again on TG-16 games, now, especially considering the quality of these games:
-Blazing Lazers
-Bloody Wolf
-Keith Courage in Alpha Zone
-Legendary Axe
-Ninja Spirit
-Sidearms
And, believe it or not, I got 2 fan-freaking-tastic deals at GameStop of all places:
-GameCube console, with hook-ups, and controller, for $29.99 (cheaper than many games).
-Game Boy Player (for GameCube) with the disc for $9.99.
And the best one, probably, came from an online comic community I've been a part of for years. For a few comics, I received in trade a PS2 with a handful of PS2 games and the DVD Playback Set-Up. But inside of the PS2, was a copy of Final Fantasy VII, as well, that he didn't know about. I told him, and he said just keep it and sent me the case!
-
PS3 for $5
YOU GOT A PS3 FOR $5?! can i have it? :'(
It was at a yard sale. They said it didn't work. I figured for $5 I can spend $80-$100 and get it repaired. Blammo! Cheap PS3.
Got it home, did a little research. I had to I that deal where you hold the power button down for several seconds for the AV to reset. Then, it didn't detect the HDD. Checked to see if it had a HDD and found out it wasn't plugged in. Screwed it down and it's still going.
And, no, you can't have it. ;). How am I gonna finish Kingdom Hearts without it?

I guess I got an ok deal on this.
-
Yeah you did. That is one of those that I've never been able to pick up. I used to see it a bunch back in the day, but after about 2010 they disappeared.
-
sega cd and virtual boy for free with games
or the psp for $10
-
A fellow NES collector friend I met online sent me a copy of Duck Tales 2 for FREE. It's still the rarest NES game in my collection.

I'm so jealous. I want that game so bad, and have come so close so many times, only to be outbid by like 50 cents the last moment.
And I'm not a "rarity" game collector. I only want it because I REALLY like the Capcom DuckTales games.

Don't spend a bunch of money on it. It's very... ok. Play the first one twice and send me the $85 difference in the price. It just doesn't have the same magic the first one did. Same thing goes for Chip and Dale 2. It's still good, just not good enough to spend a bunch of money on.
Now, that is if you just want to play them. If you want to collect them, go right ahead. They're not getting any cheaper.

February 2012 I picked up Dragon Force and Shining the Holy Ark CIB for $14 total
August 2013 Metal Storm cart only for the NES for .99

Its funny you mention that. I happened to get a copy of Panic Rest that way from a super awesome collector myself. It also is still the rarest NES game in my collection.

This particular guy is overwhelmingly generous. We met on another forum I used to frequent that was about as tight-knit as this one and every year we would do a gift exchange at Christmas. Last year, he gave his exchange partner a freaking CIB Earthbound. My jaw hit the floor.

My best deal was prolly a brand new Mega Man Legends 2, black label for $5. They were clearing out their PS1 games and it was in the bargain bin. I snagged it immediately.
-
After this auction ended: http://m.ebay.com/itm/151139423493 Ithink is now my best find and most valuable item in my collection. I believe I picked it up for $6. It is a Panorama Popeye Game N Watch if you don't want to click the link.
I tried to sell it on ebay a number of years ago but no one bid on my starting price of $70.

So jealous. That game and DuckTales 2 are the top 2 games on my wishlist.

There has been a DT 2 on our local Craigslist for weeks : http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/vgm/4077502274.html
-
$150?!
No thanks.
-
Thats with the box. Cardboard for the NES is stupidly expensive. Here is the VGPC listing for DT2 : http://videogames.pricecharting.com/game/nes/duck-tales-2
-
I don't need the box THAT badly.
On average I see auctions for the game (cartridge only) between $40 (on a good day) to $70.
So by that logic, the box by itself is worth $80 to $110?! Double the worth of the cartridge?! :o

If you find one for $40, get me one. I have it already, but that game is pricey. $70 is a good price for it. It gets over $100 regularly.

Ya I had no idea the MML2 was gonna be spendy. I was just on a big Mega Man kick back then. It sat sealed for a couple years until I finally opened it to play.
-
Boxes for NES games are beyond ridiculous. I really could see people spending over $100 just for that box. Ive seen people literally pay over 2000 just for the DK Jr math box.

I don't know how many times I've been bidding on that game on eBay, I'm at around $45-$50, and somebody out bids me the very last instant. (Cartridge only, of course)
-
I've never seen it under $90, even cartridge only.

Let me tell you about a game called Chubby Cherub... it's worth more than that CIB. And the cart is now worth like 30 bucks for some reason.
-
I guess 2 more deals I got were a CIB Simon's Quest in super clean condition bundled with Ghosts n Goblins, Maniac Mansion and a few other NES games for like $25. And my Mega Man Legends for PS1 for like $10.
-
Definitely my copy of Out of Control for atari that I got for 50 cents....

That CIB Sega SG-1000 MK II lot that came 13 games 4 where CIB for $250, sounds like a lot but when you value everything it would sell well over $1000.
A complete Nintendo Virtual Boy for 25 cents, When I first posted this find when I tested it one eye didn't work. But then later I tested it out again and it worked great, both eyes. I tested it many times after and it always worked. So yay got a working VB for 25c lol

You seem to do quite well....

I score awesome deals all the time, in fact I don't think I ever paid more than $15 for a vintage console, including a Super NES.
However, recently on craigslist I saw a PS2 steering wheel on the "free" section. I decided to pick it up on my way home from work one day. When I got to the house, they had tossed about 20-30 PS2 games in the box with the wheel — which I immediately noticed was a Logitech force feedback wheel for the Xbox 360!
So, the next day the person sent me an email APOLOGIZING to me because they realized the steering wheel was for the Xbox 360 instead of the PS2 — and that they had the PS2 wheel if I wanted to stop and pick it up! When I got there they had tossed in a few more PS2 games in the box!
In the end, the Logitech wheel needed a power supply which I could only find online for about $10 — and the PS2 wheel had a broken pin in one of the connector cables associated with the foot pedals. I was able to find a replacement pedal set on Ebay — which also had a broken part inside for about $7 and I was able to fix that one with the parts from the broken pedal set I had from the free one I picked up.
So in the end I got a logitech Drive FX wheel, a Cobra TT wheel for the PS2, and about 35-40 PS2 games for $17 which isn't bad at all.
I don't have a good table or rack to clamp my wheels to for playing racing games right now so they are collecting dust until I find something I can deal with — but it was still a fun find.
Even though it is fun, I am WAY better at racing games with the analog sticks than I am with the wheels, even if I have the sensitivity set correctly.
-
I got my Earthbound (SNES) for a buck at a local flea market.
-
I've had a few awesome finds:
EarthBound (Cart Only) $5.95
Little Samson (Cart Only) $5.00
Action52 Genesis (Cart Only) $10-$15 I can't remember exactly.
Link The Faces Of Evil, Zelda Wand Of Gamelon, & Hotel Mario (All Complete) $100

What games? $250 sounds like a good deal, but $1000 seems really high. Thinking about expensive SG1000 games and a mkii, I would figure 400-600 depending on the time of day.
Have you ever looked into a broker service? Most SG1000 games can be snagged for about 300-1000 yen. Then combine ship via the broker. Good way to snag systems too. I know many a Saturn or MSX collector that do this.
Fantastic deal either way, just curious if you know something I don't.
-
Well, I found Snatcher and Popful Mail (Sega CD) complete in box for three dollars each today.
How's that sound?
-
Popful mail was always one of the Sega CD games Ive wanted but never got around to picking up. $3 is awesome.

After going through the current prices your pretty much right. When I said $1000 I kinda guessed on a total value. but after looking up what they have sold on ebay for everything i got you could get for about $500 - $600. The most valuable game that I got is Girl's Garden, This game sells alone for around $50 - $100.
The system CIB sells for about $250-$300
and all the games I got roughly sell for a total of about $250-$300.
So I basicly paid for the system and got 13 games with it for free. 8)

Pikachu N64 console - $30
A lot of other great deals as well, just can't remember them off the top of my head.
-
I've gotten some fantastic deals over the years (decades really) but the one that always stands out to me is around 2002 where I got an Atari 2600 and 120 games for $10 at a yardsale, some pretty rare games in that lot too.
-
Hardware-wise, I was given an Atari 2600 last year with 3 controllers (classic joystick, keypad and paddles). I also got a Pokémon Gold&Silver gameboy color for $10.
As for games, my best finds would be:
-Demon's Crest SNES $5
-Digimon World: Dawn DS $10
-Gameboy Player with disc in its original case and the cardboard over it for $15
I have a few other "nice finds", but they're not as much worth mentioning. These 3 are my favourite :)
