Here is picture of the two different styles.

You know I never noticed this until recently. All the carts I've had since I was a kid were on the indented type. Now a couple used games I've gotten recently are of the slot type.

Oh as far as the listing it as a variant. We only have to list it if there were 2 different versions, like everything else. I'm not sure what they call them either.

Those are good terms - indented and slot.  Seems odd - it doesn't affect the fit into the system?  I wonder why the changed it (maybe just for conservation of materials).

EDIT: Disregard this babble I am completely wrong.

The top one is the one I was refering to as "indented" and I'm pretty positive it was the original style seeing as Super Mario World uses this. The second is "slot" and I believe it's a later version. Of course  I could be mistaken. I'm sure the indented one uses less material than the slot one...

I remember reading in an older magazine that Nintendo removed the slot because people kept trying to remove carts while the power was off.

And um. Scott. The bottom one is the original one. I had a launch Super Mario World system and my cart was like that. The indented carts came some time later. Super Mario World was printed for the entire SNES' lifetime, and there's several different variants between label art and cart styles. And if we want to get even more technical, I think there's variations on the back sticker, too, depending on where the cart was made.

Oh ok. I wasn't sure, thanks for the clarification.

Alright, so is this what we're looking at?

Ex.
Super Mario World (Indented Cart Style)
Super Mario World (Slot Cart Style)
Super Mario World (Single Lined Title - Indented Cart Style)
Super Mario World (Single Lined Title - Slot Cart Style)
Super Mario World - Player's Choice (Slot Cart Style)

How technical are we getting, as @foxhack alluded to?
Are we listing Made in Mexico vs. Made in Japan vs. Made somewhere else as different variations? If yes, we have to be careful to separate the re-releases from say Majesco, which are typically Made in Mexico, from these "standard" re-releases. (If they are even "standard" re-releases.)
