Title: Refund tax for games
Post by: 90snostalga on February 03, 2014, 06:59:42 am
Maybe stupid to most, but I was actually thinking for the first time this year, I could rack up on games or gaming stuff with part of my tax refund.  Any one ever done that before?  What are your thoughts?  Is it stupid to do?

Money is money whether you get it from a pay check or a tax refund. I always use a bit of the return on gaming. Buster Douglas will be mine this year.

I guess you could use it for whatever you wanted.

I usually use part of my refund for something for me and then use the rest on bills.

This year, I'm not sure if I'm going to do that tho.

I always put my refund directly into my Roth IRA account.

I guess I'm not showing any restraint. I'm putting my refund towards a PS4

Thanks for the honesty and all the feedback guys.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one and I needed some validation if I put any money toward gaming.  It also sounds better when trying to sell it to my wife, that other gamers buy games with tax refunds so it is normal lol.  If I have no back up to show her, she will say "thats so stupid and no one else buys games with tax refunds"  :)  Thanks guys.  Not sure yet what I want but something.

Taxes are all filed, refund will go towards bills, with a small amount being put aside for a trip to Japan next February. I've got some friends to go visit, and I've gotta go hit up the new Squeenix Store and see Luida's Bar again~

;) ;)

Gaming? No. It'll go toward home improvements, debt, and RRSP's

That's so cool  8)  Enjoy the trip!  Sounds fun!   :)  I think those game stores and stuff are really cool over so if you take any vids or pics try to show us when you get back.

I took a short video the first time I went here:

My camera was dying, unfortunately, that's why it's so short. ^^;

but then again the only thing reliant on me is my labrador Retriever, so I'm not the best example to go off of.

Sadly I have not received a tax refund in years because I am lumped into a tax bracket with people who make way more than me. In fact I somehow owe money every year even after paying all my taxes throughout the year :/. But if I did get a refund, some of it would no doubt go towards games.

I feel your pain. Go to school. Get a good job. Get married to a woman who makes a little scratch too. Then, you pay the man out the ass.

Aw awesome video and I will have to say, I love the music in the background!   :)

This makes me want to study Japanese again and try to learn the entire language but it was hard requires a lost of patience  :)

As most people on this site will do, a small amount will go towards video game-related purchases.  Maybe a PS4 or Vita if I feel like splurging.

I intend to list my entire PS1 RPG collection. Hopefully some poor schmuck will use his refund money wisely. :P

Part of my refund is going towards paying off the credit card (yay $0!) and the rest is going to get me a new TV stand/entertainment center so I can actually have my consoles out. So it's gaming related, but not games themselves.

This is pretty much what I would've said!  I want to pay off some CCs, but I might also decide to use some of it for a Vita or a PS3 (still need to catch up with the last generation).

If anything, the refund is always a nice buffer for a few months, especially since my roommates tend to be a little late in paying me their portion of the rent.
