This is the thread for all those vs. questions that gamers love to debate. Which is better? Nintendo vs. Sega, Mario vs. Sonic, etc.
First up:
(http://vgcollect.com/images/front-box-art/8499.jpg) vs. (http://vgcollect.com/images/front-box-art/6325.jpg)
-
I have to go Symphony of the Night.
One, because its Castlevania and redefined the series.
Two, because I sunk countless hours playing it (and 100%ing)
And three, because I've never played more than 15 mins of Super Metroid (even tho I own it on SNES)
-
Super Metroid gets my vote. My only reason is because the Metroid franchise is still a Nintendo first party franchise. Nintendo will have my support most of the time in these type of battles.
-
Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night
The major deciding factor for my choice was that Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night is a role-playing game. RPGs versus other genres have a low chance of losing my decision, although there are some cases.
-
im ashamed to say i never played a castlevania or super metroid game.
-
I've never played Castlevania (please don't hate me, Scott!), but I have Super Metroid on the Wii U so...I guess I'll have to default to Metroid :P
Let's see... how about Pokémon vs Digimon (the games)? Both led to pretty similar animes, but in my opinion both franchises' games are better than their respective anime. Pokémon might have an unfair advantage in popularity for the question, but I've known die-hard fans of Digimon who didn't like Pokémon, so I'm curious about what you all think :)

Funny that you should mention this...
I've never played any Pokemon and/or Digmon (or Yu-Gi-Oh) games -and- I've often wondered if there were any/many similarities or themes between any of those series?
Also Karyann -
You did an awesome job with both your video (and your English:)!
It was impressive, entertaining & enjoyable to watch...Nice job!
-
In this battle, I have to side with Super Metroid. It is far and away the best Metroid title made and could possibly be one of the best games ever made. It took everything that was right with Metroid and added to it!
-
I've never played SoTN. I can't comment on it. It was a PlayStation game and that thing is evil.
Even if I'd played SoTN, Super Metroid is hard to beat. That is truly an excellent game.
Super Metroid is the winner. It'll be the winner against 95% of the games ever made.

Thanks :) I really enjoyed making the video, even though I was kinda anxious too. I'm glad I did it!
And I haven't played much of Digimon, so I can't compare a lot of details, but for what I know right now they're pretty different games. I think the reason they're compared a lot is because you battle with many creatures that can change form, and they're both RPGs. Battle systems are different though, but it's nice to have diversity :P

Great battle question Karyann! :) While as a kid, I loved the Pokemon series and I watched it everyday religiously. And as an adult, I still love it! Same for the Pokemon games. Love them!!!!! Digimon, I tried to watch it and get into the games but I only played maybe 15 minutes and I got bored and I was so into training to be a Pokemon Master that I wanted NOTHING to do with Digimon. So I will go with Pokemon!
However, would you suggest the Digimon video games? Are they good?
-
I freaking love both SoTN and Super Metroid. Two of my all time favorites. The action-RPG blend, and sense of exploration, discovery, and character growth are excellent for gameplay. And the music and environments in both games really give a great atmosphere to both games.
But if I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with Super Metroid. I really can't say any one thing about it that's significantly better than SoTN, I just prefer it if I had to choose.
-
As for the decision between Pokémon versus Digimon... Pokémon also wins because of the popularity it still has, although I was just tired of it after Pokémon Yellow. Then again, I only watched the first Digimon series and never played the games. I guess you know my decision.
Azure Dreams!
I mean... None.
-

Honestly, I don't know. I've only ever played Digimon World: Dawn, which I bought this Christmas. I've played for about 2 hours, and I don't think I've really progressed through the story yet, so it's hard to say. So far though, I'm not bored, so it's a good start :P Digimon games tend to cost a lot over time, so it might be a pain to put your hand on them, too.

I would like to start a battle if I may?
* The Legend of Zelda for the NES
VS.
* Golden Axe Warrior for the SMS

Zelda. People may like Golden Axe, but they still refer to it as a Zelda clone.

Imo, the Pokemon games are by far better. The I have only played the first Digimon World, but I remember feeling bored half the time with the gameplay and story, and overall it was just a very mediocre experience. Even my least favorite main Pokemon game (Black and White) were way better than Digimon World. So yeah, my vote goes to Pokemon being the better series :p

Zelda, easily. GA Warrior is fun, but it's not Zelda.
-
Even my least favorite main Pokemon game (Black and White)
Aww, I loved Black&White SO much! The story was awesome and the new mechanics were so cool. X&Y pushed the bar even higher though, it's incredible how many details they put in there.

I think a big reason why I didn't like it as much were the Pokemon they added. It was by far my least favorite Generation of Pokemon, there were maybe 10 out of the lot of new Pokemon I thought were cool. The story was pretty good, but the whole time I played it I was just sort of hanging in there and wasn't having that much fun.
But I completely agree with you about X and Y. It is probably my second favorite Pokemon gen (Gold and Silver being my favorite). Was an amazing, amazing game all around :D

I understand your feeling; I felt exactly the same about Diamond&Pearl. I hate most of these Pokémon, with the exception of Riolu/Lucario and maybe a few others. My personal favourite is Ruby/Sapphire though, and I know it's not a popular opinion at all haha.

This is tough for me. If its just game vs game, I pick Golden axe warrior. It is a better game all around. But the simple fact is that Zelda has far and away outlived that which is Golden Warrior. And it spawned two of the best games ever : Link to the past and Link between worlds.
-
The Legend Of Zelda (NES)
Never played Golden Axe Warrior since I don't have a Sega Master System and only have The Legend Of Zelda: Collector's Edition for the Gamecube. I'm going to give respect to the original.
-
Pokemon: Played and loved the originals on GB instantly, didn't play anything else until Platinum (my favorite). But every game since I've really enjoyed (still need X & Y though)
Zelda: The first Zelda didn't get beaten until maybe 5 years ago, but I did play the hell out of it and Link to the Past. Plus whenever I hear the Zelda overworld music I can't help but grin a little.

Ninja Gaiden - absolutely.
-
Yeah as much as I like SMS, Ninja Gaiden is definitely better than Shinobi in this one.
-
How about something a little more difficult....
The TurboExpress versus the Game Gear?
-
Ninja Gaiden, hands down. I've never cared for Shinobi

Super Metroid.

The TurboExpress versus the Game Gear?
Never even seen a TurboExpress, so by default I'll say Game Gear. I don't have many games for it though and I'm not sure I really like it that much. I guess I still need to find a few games that'll keep me hooked.
-

The TurboExpress versus the Game Gear?
TurboExpress, easily. It doesn't play shrunk-down, cut-corners, neutered handheld versions of games, like Game Boy and Game Gear. It plays full-on TurboGrafx-16 games, the actual HuCards, and that's pretty freaking awesome.
-
Ya, even though I've only played a handful of Game Gear games and never played a TurboExpress. I've always wanted to get my hands on one, then I could play HU Cards without having to hook up another console to my SDTV.

IIRC, I think the Turbo-Express can hook to a T.V., too. Don't quote me on that, though, I might be wrong.
-
Does it hook up to a Turbo CD? That would be awesome in and of itself.

I'm not sure, but it would be pretty unwieldy to play even if it technically could. I doubt it, though. The Sega Nomad isn't compatible with the Sega CD, 32X, or Power Base Converter.
-
Lynx of course. With the prototype of the Game Gear converter!

I honestly would have to pick the third choice. But If I had to i would probably get more play time off of Castlevania.
-
TurboExpress
Of course, I'm only basing my decision on aesthetics. Don't know if I ever played a TurboGrafx-16 game or seen it either, maybe a clone at best?
-
Round 1. Super Metroid (I love SotN, but I gotta go with Metroid.)
Round 2. No competition, Legend of Zelda wins.
Round 3. Again no Competition, Ninja Gaiden.
Round 4. hmm... I guess I'd go Turbo Express just because I like more T16 games. (somehow I missed this one) :P
If you really wanna fight here's round 5.
Vs.
I gotta go Chrono Trigger myself.
-
Ooh man. I love them both so much! But I guess if I had to make the choice it would be... Final Fantasy VI. It's the game that really made me love console RPGs. Chrono Trigger came later and it's one of my all time favorites. But Final Fantasy VI to me was pretty perfect, plus Kefka.
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- The Legend of Zelda
- Ninja Gaiden
- Turbo Express
- Final Fantasy III (SNES)
-
1) Super Metroid
2) Zelda
3) Ninja Gaiden
4) Never played a Turbo Express, but the Game Gear plays Master System games. Game Gear!
5) Chrono Trigger
-
Im going to have to go with this :
#1 - Super metroid
#2 - Golden axe warrior
#3 - Ninja gaiden
#4 - Game gear
#5 - Final fantasy VI

Am I the only on that this bothers? Damn Hipsters. It's just seems real uppity. Yeah, it may be correct in Japan; but it says Final Fantasy III on the box and this is America! I will forever call this Final Fantasy III. If you think I'm wrong Eff Off! ;D
*Disclaimer: I know this seems like it really struck a nerve. I'm 3/4 kidding. No one needs to get their panties in a bunch.

Thank you, sir

I call it VI cause it technically is. :)

1) Castlevania - I love Super Metroid, it's my favorite in the series by far (still haven't played the GBA games but want to). However, I play through SotN at least every other year and adore it every time. It's possibly my all-time favorite game.
2) Zelda, never had a SMS or even knew anyone who had one - my area was 100% NES. Don't think it would have mattered, I was crazy about the original Zelda as a kid and it still holds a special spot for me.
3) Shinobi - Ninja Gaiden was just waaaay too hard, and I beat the original Mega Man as a kid. :P Used to love playing Shinobi in the arcade and later on the C64 I believe. The PS2 Shinobi is also an overlooked gem, tho it's insanely hard as well.
4) I don't know that I've ever played either, so I'll abstain.
5) Chrono Trigger, tho it's a mark of shame that I've never finished either of these games. I've played through at least 3/4's of Chrono Trigger several times but always trailed off at the end without finishing. FF3 (6, 127, whatever :P ) I've barely started. Didn't catch the FF bug until 7.

If you're a fellow Castlevania fan, I would suggest playing Aria of Sorrow on the GBA, Dawn of Sorrow or Order of Eccelsia on DS. All three of those are excellent.

Thanks, I have the DS Castlevania's in my backlog and have been casually on the lookout for the GBA games. I'm a huge fan of the series but I'm more of a console gamer in general than handheld. Prior to my 3DS pickup last year I didn't even have anything that would play standard DS games, so I've been playing catch-up with that massive library.
-
Shinobi i loved that game
-
Didn't catch the FF bug until 7.
like wise
7 is still one of my fave games of all time

i second this.
i got mine from Biglots

Okay sense no started round 6 here I go.
VS.
For me I gotta go with TMNT2, I love battletoads but its just so damn hard. lol
-
TMNT
-
I gotta pick the turtles cause I honestly just dont like the Battletoads game.
-
TMNT 2!
-
Turtles 2 without a doubt. Battletoads is awesome and all, but the difficulty really hurt it.
-
- Super Metroid
- The Legend of Zelda
- Ninja Gaiden
- Game Gear
- FFIII
- TMNT2
Both the Turbo and Battletoads always seemed "better" or somehow more exotic, but if I had both in front of me, I'd reach for the game gear and TMNT2, respectively.
-
TMNT, for sure. Battletoads was punishingly difficult, and it didn't look as good as TMNT II did.
-
I don't know if I played either Battletoads or TMNT on the NES - I think those may have come out after I sold my NES & games to get a C64. But I played enough of TMNT in the arcade to give that my vote anyway.
-
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II
Don't know if I played the second one or the original but I second argyle. Especially enjoyed doing the flying kick every time I could. Leonardo and Donatello were my choices, if memory serves me correctly.
