Thought it would be cool to see what was the most popular system here at VGCollect.
For me is PS2. But my PS1 and PS2 collection are neck-and-neck. PS1 could take over the #1 spot at any time for me. They aren't necessarily my favorite systems, even. It's just that those games are so cheap and easy to find, and I'm cheap.
EDIT (since everyone else is adding numbers):
1. PS2 - 98 Games
2. PS1 - 95 Games
Sooo close to passing that 100 mark on both. I've never done that on ANY system.
It then drops a bit after that:
3. NES - 49
4. Xbox (Original) - 40
5. SNES - 36
-
Game Gear. 120 games.
I bet I'm the only one who will answer that.

I wouldn't bet against you.
That is impressive! I think there's like 30 games I even want on the Game Gear.

Edit: Since everyone else is doing a top 5:
5. Xbox - 185
4. Playstation 2 - 213
3. Steam - 331
2. Nintendo DS - 371
1. Xbox 360 - 606

I'll make this a top 5 based on size of the collection alone
5. Playstation - 59
4. Wii - 59
3.Gamecube - 63
2. Xbox 360 - 64
1. Playstation 2 -72
again the PS2, and like burningdoom not necessarily my favorite system, because the games are Cheap and easy to find.
...my numbers fell real low
-

5. Nintendo DS - 65

I have 91 games for the Atari 2600 and that is the most I have for any system. I picked up about 50 of them in a lot, but the rest I have picked up over the past couple of years when I see them. It is the system I don't mind buying crap games for because I enjoy finding all the weird games that came out for it like Lost Luggage.
For disc based consoles Gamecube comes in first with 46 games.
-
PC - 93 games
-
66 on SNES - not an overly impressive number, but still.
I'm surprised to see SNES isn't even on the top 5 of a lot of you. I would have expected it to be more popular to collect for than it seems to be.
-
PS2 140
PS1 125
2600 117
NES 97
I have 53/125 of the officially released Intellivision library Which is the largest collection I have when you consider the size of the available library.
-
5-Ps2-93
4-Genesis-95
3-Gamecube-111
2-NES-114
1-Ps1-116
Like everyone else, the playstation systems are easy and cheap to find. With the exception of the gamecube, these were built up from thrift stores

1282 PC games, 1114 of which are digital.
I have a bunch more physical games, but I haven't listed them because I haven't found many good box shots.

Nothing worse than a bad shot of a box ;)
That's really impressive!

If I counted the not quite legal games, I'd have lots of fullsets. ;p
Impressive... eh. Between lack of time and OS / hardware incompatibilities, I'll never get to play them all. ;_;

Game Boy Advance - 15
Game Boy Color - 3
GameCube - 19
Nintendo 3DS - 5
Nintendo DS - 30
NES/Famicom - 36
PlayStation 2 - 31
PlayStation 3 - 8
PlayStation - 25
Other - 34
Super Nintendo/Super Famicom - 42
Swag - 2
Wii - 31
I think the SNES wins at this point. :)
-
I only have a modest collection so it's not very difficult:
PlayStation 2: 33
PlayStation: 26
PlayStation 3: 22
PlayStation Portable: 13
Oh yeah, this data definitely shows I'm a PlayStation fanboy. Although... I'm also turning into a Sega fan and constantly trying to build a bigger PC collection, whether the format is digital or physical copy. I just won't list my Steam collection since my VGCollect list is meant for physical format.
-
MY top 5 are
Playstation 2: 250
Playstation: 88
Xbox: 72
Xbox 360: 62
Super Nintendo: 61

FWIW, I *am* a Sony fanboy and those *are* my favorite 2 systems. :P
-
PSP - 255
Gameboy - 119
Game gear - 94
DS - 61
Supervision - 55
-
Aww, lots of love for the DS ;D Pretty much my favourite system, and it shows in my own numbers:
DS - 60
Wii - 32
PS3 - 32
PS2 - 30
Gamecube - 25
I love the 3DS too, but since it's current gen, there aren't many big deals yet, and then this part of my collection grows slower. And the PS3 has been growing on me more and more ever since I've had it! (Not that I didn't like it at first - I've always loved it :) )
-
According to my collection-breakdown (Pie Chart) my top 5 are:
PS3 @ 185,
PS2 @ 154,
DS @ 105,
PS1 @ 85, and
PSP @ 63.
:o
Looks like Sony's dominating my stats 8)
-
185 PS3 games, that's impressive. But how many are dupes? ;)
-
Aww, lots of love for the DS ;D Pretty much my favourite system, and it shows in my own numbers:
Pretty much all of my DS games I've picked up in the last year since getting my 3DS, and there are many more I'd still like to grab. I told one of the guys at Gamestop the other day that when they finally put their DS games on clearance, my wallet is going to hurt! :P

I can't wait for that day, in a way. Lots of new games! :) I already got a few for $3 and under last year at Gamestop, so I guess it's starting slowly. But since the 3DS has retro-compatibility, I wonder if it will take longer for them to be on clearance.

Probably between 20 and 30 (w/o looking, that is:)
-
NES - 623
Xbox 360 - 136
Sega Master System - 133
Sega Genesis - 122 (includes CD games and 32x)
TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine - 122 (includes CD games)
Super Nintendo - 109
Atari 2600 - 107
Xbox - 102
I pulled all of the digital titles out of my collection recently... was a spur of the moment thing... Felt good...

A few of us have recently. I did so and it was nice.

MADNESS, MADNESS I TELL YOU.
LOOK AT ALL THESE BYTES I OWN.

Didn't feel right listing games I'll never actually own.

ha! Besides Steam already keeps a collection list for all my PC titles on there.
and damn... I need to mod a 360 so I can dump all my XBLA games for when they kill off live for the 360 in a few years. :(
-
I don't bother tracking my PC digital stuff (or PC stuff at all, really) but I like tracking the PSN stuff I own. It's too easy to forget about some of that stuff, so if I have it in my collection here I can easily see what I have. And the majority of those are digital only, so there's no other way to own them.
I don't list PS+ freebies, of course, only games I actually own.
-

Probably - I expect the PSP to be the next system they clearance out, and I doubt that will be too much longer. There are some good complete games around me that I'm keeping an eye on, so as soon as that sale starts I'm going to jump on them. ;)
-
5. Wii - 58
4. NES - 90
3. Sega Master System - 114
2. Genesis/CD/32X - 116
1. Atari 2600 - 151
Intellivision, GameCube and Dreamcast are all hot on the heels of Wii with 52-53 games in those collections.
-
Right now, 32 is my highest for the Nintendo 64, a favorite system of mine. Sadly because the N64 games are notoriously hard to show off because of their cartridges having no stickers, all of them but like the 4 I have boxes for sit in a drawer. Really need more boxed N64 titles.

There are some folks on the interwebs who sell edge labels to remedy this.

Oh, I might have to check that out then. I really would like to have my N64 games out for viewing.
*EDIT*
Found a set on Amazon. It's cool that they make a batch for every game so that you can keep track of what you have. I'll look at grabbing them later on when I can.

It's close between Xbox 360 and PS2. PS2 has not been archived in the last couple of years and is demanding a recount. I have about 180 Xbox 360 games. It was the multi-platform of choice, games spanning from 2005 until current releases, so naturally there will be a lot. Honorable mentions go to NES and DS, with around 120 on each - just great platforms with multitudes of awesome content.

Don't be wishin' that day upon us! I love the DS, and want it to stay relevant forever if possible. I love finding the cases in their trash. Besides, more than half the DS library is already below $10 there.

This has nothing to do with the thread, sorry guys. But I just had to say this:
You're avatar is freaking AWESOME!!! What is it? To me, it looks like some future-version of Vic Rattlehead (Megadeth's mascot)

my top 5 systems by number of games:
PC - 293
PS2 - 237
PS1 - 209
Xbox - 182
NES - 159
it seems like PC get's no love around here. I'm actually surprised when i go to add a PC game to my collection, and it's already in the database... anyone feel like that? Man I've lost count of the number of PC games I've submitted to the database lol.
PC is truly a great system, if you don't mind fiddling with settings and such. It usually has the best looking version of a multi-platform game.
However, as with everyone else... looking at my numbers, PS1 & PS2 games are by far the easiest to find on the cheap.

It's fanart of Vic Rattlehead that came out when they were going to Deviant Art for a redesign Vic contest back around...United Abominations I think. I loved the design and regularly use Vic for avatars :D
And to Retromangia, I don't personally think of my PC collection as one anymore as it's all digital. Like I have 150+ games on my Steam Library alone. For me, my collection on here is purely physical. I use my PC more than anything else anymore, though as hard as I went digitally with alot of games, I am trying to pull it back a little so I can have physical copies if I'm not gonna be buying something on a Steam Sale.
-
hey kamikazekeeg,
Yeah those digital sales are hard to pass up sometimes... 99% of the time, I'll wait until I find a physical copy of the game... but sometimes those Steam sales are too hard to pass up. ;)
I'd say 99% of my PC collection is physical copies... which is a gift and curse really... some of the older PC games take up ALOT of shelf space, with those huge boxes and all!

I had the bright idea over the past like 10 years to go "Oh, all these cases are pointless and digital is handier, just toss those and keep all my CD's and manuals in a big CD case it's handy", and now back into collecting I'm just staring at the CD case full of games along with a huge digital library and going "WHY?!?!" lol

1.NES- 170

1. NES - 143
2. Genesis - 80
3. SNES - 77
4. Colecovision - 65
5. Game Boy - 44
6. Atari 2600 - 31
7. Neo Geo MVS - 30
All the rest are in the 20's or lower. The period between 1980-1995 is the heart and soul of my collection.
-
My NES has the most games in the collection currently with 125 titles as of this post! I still have more I plan to get, although I may not get them all because of the ridiculous price some go for these days. :-\
The second most games I have is on my SNES with 85.
The third most goes to my PS2 with 79.
-
Sega Genesis - 202
-
Hmm.... Seems that I'm quite late to the game here....
01.) PlayStation 2 - 390
02.) Nintendo DS - 153
03.) PlayStation 3 - 120
04.) Sega Genesis/Mega Drive - 107
05.) PlayStation Portable - 102
06.) PlayStation - 101
07.) Sega Dreamcast - 79
08.) Sega Saturn - 59
09.) Sega Master System - 59
10.) Wii - 49
Also, I recall theFlea having an insanely high number of games, but I didn't realize that the PS1/PS2 count was so high.... Impressive.... That being said.... I now feel that my numbers are pitiful.... Even if I haven't listed hardly any of my NES/SNES/N64 here, I know they are all under 100 each so I want to weep.... Then I'll build a shrine dedicated to theFlea....
