Only game that I'd recommend playing 1st is Atelier Ayesha (which, I don't think is very rare and/or pricey yet:)

I'm already going broke this month anyway w/ the other new releases I'm picking up. :P

I thought the same thing! If I really hate it, I'm only out 20 bucks. Can't beat that. You can apparently still order the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles: Collector's Edition at Amazon (on backorder) and I'm seriously wondering if I should. Never played a tales game either lol.

Yea, that kinda threw me off a bit too. I'm kinda upset about it, but I guess they can just do what ever they want
