So, look what I got...

I about shit myself when I saw it on eBay, so I was sure to snatch it up. I've got a high res scanner, so I can get some scans for the site. Now I just need to figure out how rare it is, what it's worth, and where the hell it comes from. It has to be either a store display or a rerelease after the discount offer ended.
-
:O you finally got it :D
I'll do some asking on my side, I know a few collectors store owners and one of them collect mega man (he was impressed by your collection)
I haven't actually seen others with no stripe so I'm guessing its a rare little gem. I feel like if it was a rerelease, they would be more common.
-
Congrats! What's that make, 3 variants we've found now?
-
Welcome to the no stripe family! My box is beat up and I haven't had a chance to scan it so thanks in advance for scanning it in.
@scott I think just 2...stripe and no stripe.
-
@matt oh I thought yours was a strip but w/o text
-
scratch that, I just looked up the thread. It was the Mega Man 3 w/ the yellow stripe that @madmax posted. ha
-
Ok, here are direct links since they'll get cropped otherwise

from what I've seen on the internet, @Matt and I have the only two copies of this. Can't find anything else about a variant box for MM2 except our two threads on this forum.

additional information:
the UPCs are the same, but the flaps inside the box at the top are different. The variant is identified as NES-XR USA-1 while the normal box is NES-XR USA. Additionally, the right side of the variant box says "For sale and use in the USA, Canada, and Mexico only" underneath MEGAMAN 2 in white letters; this is not present on the original box. The REV-A identifier on the variant box is in white, while printed in black on the original.
Also, on the right tab on the inside is a number printed in gold. My original box has the number 91109, and the variant has 20311. @matt, what is the number on your variant?
They also seem to be different colors. The original is more of a purple dominant color, while the variant is more of a blue dominant color.
-
Are the cartridges the same?
-
The cartridge I got is NES-XR USA, so either I didn't get a variant cartridge or it doesn't exist and the variation is only in the box. Research shows that boxes identified as USA-1 are re-releases, but no one seems to identify a USA-1 Mega Man 2 variant on any game lists I've come across.
-
@forte, that's interesting. Makes me want to snag the Castlevania NES variants and do full on comparisons.
-
I just approved all of the updates for this. Good job!
-
As an update to this, I just snagged the Mega Man 3 No Text Yellow Stripe variant factory sealed!
-
Niiiiiice
-
@matt, here is a scan of the MM3 no text on stripe box

I kinda fucked up though and scanned it off center, could anyone who is good with photo editing crop it and fix that? I'm gonna make an entry for this variant so this can be the picture for it once it's fixed.

@scott is our resident photoshop expert. It would take me an hour to figure out how to rotate it properly xD
-
@madmax and @scott, I made an entry for this variant:

Just needs the picture!

I just added the picture.

@foxhack, awesome, thanks!

Oh cool. Thanks foxhack.
