Title: Club Nintendo reminder
Post by: tpugmire on June 12, 2014, 02:26:40 pm
Just a reminder, you have until June 30th to enter your codes to qualify for gold or platinum status. On a side note, it looks like I'm going to be 80 points short of my goal for the year. Anyone have a couple unwanted codes that you want to donate?  I'll love you forever!

Thanks for the reminder.  This is my first time on Platinum status.  When do they find out  a free item and announce it?

Thanks for this! I'm already platinum, but my girlfriend isn't yet. I'll have to let her know!

I'm sitting at 995 coins myself right now with platinum status.  Been hoping to see something cool show up that I can get, but haven't seen anything interesting since the Luigi statue.

That sucks too.  It seems like they are adding less and less physical stuff.  I want stuff, dammit!  I missed the boat on the Luigi Statue.  I had the coins, I just drug my feet on ordering it.

I think I may have a couple extra - I'll double-check when I get home tonight & send you a PM to see what you need then.  :)

I've been holding off on registering my games until they bring back the gold nunchuck or something equally as cool, but I get the feeling that Club Nintendo may be going away soon. They haven't had any worthwhile prizes in a long time, and I look for the prizes to eventually all be downloadable games.

That's definitely possible.  :(  If they bring back those DS cases that hold 18 games again I'm going to get at least 2 more of them, maybe 3.  I keep filling them up with all of these cheap games I pickup at GS - I have 2 full now with 4 or 5 games "overflowing" that I need a case for!   :o

I got platinum this year. First year to get it (got gold the previous 4 or 5 years). I hope this reward is awesome!

Yeah, normally the gold reward is a calendar. I have a stack of those. Platinum reward is usually a lot better and normally has 2 options. I cant wait!

By earning Gold or Platinum you'll get a free prize gift. Gold usually gets something small like a small calendar while Platinum gives you a (traditionally) big gift.

The figure above was the 2010 gift.

Speaking of which, we should have a Club Nintendo category under swag. <3

Apparently last years big reward was a 3 piece poster set with Luigi, Zelda, and Pikmin or the Majora's Mask 2 disk soundtrack. So I assume it'll be something along the same line for this years.  2012's was also a poster set and Mario trading cards.  Hope they do a statue, cause that one is pretty awesome lol

Unfortunately I'm a whole 200 coins from getting Platinum this year. :-\ It's really hard to get a lot of coins when you tend to only buy used. Lately, the rewards have been getting even more disappointing than usual as well. I really wish they'd reprint the Game & Watch Collections, or maybe even made new ones for the 3DS. That's pretty unlikely though.

Still try the codes if they are present in the box. I've had quite a few unused codes in used games.

I've found some unused codes in used games as well, but most of the time with the stuff I buy the sheet with the code on it isn't even there anymore.

Since I'm only 20 measly points away from Platinum, I went through some old GameCube games I had to see if I had anything I never redeemed before joining. I did. But apparently, the GameCube game codes are still registered to your account as you owning them, but they don't get you squat on coins. :(

You can get around this by creating a sub-account for another family member, your dog, etc.  :P  Then any games you've already registered to your primary account, if you get a duplicate register it under the sub account.  It will earn points, and the points still collect in one "pool".

Are you sure? Because I've tried to register used games, and the codes were already redeemed, and it clearly says you can only use a code once after you try.

Not the same *code*, the same *game*.  For example, if you register Super Mario Galaxy under your account then you end up with another code later on from that game, you can't register it again.  Unless you create a sub account.  I may have misunderstood, but it sounded like that was the issue you had run into.

No, I had bought a used game, with the code insert still in it. And when I went to register the code, I found that it had already been redeemed by a previous owner.

And you can register games twice, with different codes, under the same account. Unless the difference was that one version was a Nintendo Selects version, and the other was the original release. I've registered two different versions of Super Mario Galaxy to my account.

For registering codes? I've bought some games that have been out of print for a while and the codes have always been fine. The only thing I have noticed is that sometimes the codes for older games are worth fewer coins than usual.

I'm pretty sure GameCube games never gave any coins to begin with in NA's Club Nintendo, since they all released long before we even got Club Nintendo. The codes that come with older games like GameCube and GBA games were meant for Nintendo's old rewards program thing, "My Nintendo", which never had a coin system or actual physical rewards as far as I can remember. It was mostly for warranty extensions and whatnot.

The coins themselves will expire after entered if you dont use them within a certain time. Not sure what that time frame is though. Ive never had any vanish yet.

Metroid Prime Pinball also released long before NA got Club Nintendo, though I did just find this on the Club Nintendo website, since I was curious about the expiry dates:

"Retail software has a registration timeframe of four years from the game's initial release date. For example: PINs included with Sin & Punishment: Star Successor (released 6/27/10) will expire on 6/27/14."

Kinda good to know. I would've never looked it up if it weren't for this thread.

*Just checked again. The unused coins on your account expire after two Club Nintendo Years. If you check under the Coins & Status section of your Account & Coins when you're logged in, it will tell you if you have any coins that expire at the end of this Club Nintendo Year.

That's kinda weird they say that because it isn't true. I decided to join Club Nintendo last week and registered a ton of my games over the weekend. Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, for example, was released in 2007 and it still gave me 20 coins for it.

Maybe they're worth fewer coins after the four years? Now that I look back to a couple months ago, I registered Glory of Heracles (which is also more than four years old now) and got 20 coins. It really does say they expire after four years though. :-\ Here's the page I found it on:

I can vouch that GameCube games do not give you coins. I tried last week in order to get my 20 coins shy of Platinum Status covered.

It registered the games, but no coins.

Sucks to hear that DS games are no longer eligible now, too. Last DS game I registered worked, but it's been a while since I've bought a first-party DS game.

so apparently not only will you get coins for Mario Kart 8 but you will also get them for the Downloadable game you choose, so if your looking for that last squeeze of points that might be your ticket. the only amount I can confirm is that Pikmin 3 is 70 points

Barely obtained gold this year... I hope they will give away another great game on the 3DS Virtual console. I had for free Metroid II in 2012 and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX last year.

Another free Zelda or Wario Land 3 would be great!

The year ends June 30 so basically another week to get platinum. They usually announce the options not too long after but it takes months to actually get the award.

They seem to have announced it the day after and give you the month of July to choose a reward (in case you get a choice). If you reach Platinum, you get a choice between the Gold reward or the Plat reward. If you get Gold, you just have one option usually.

I've never made it to Platinum before, either. I've come just shy of it before, which I was gonna do again this year if it wasn't for some friendly help here at VGCollect (I love this place!). Can't wait to see the perks I'll be getting.

For Gold I just kept getting the calendar with the cards, which is still cool cause it's free and it's Nintendo.

Huh, I never thought of that, I'd be down if they did something like that. From what I heard, many people want better rewards than a CD with a few tracks(2013 reward) or the platinum playing cards from 2012( which I personally think are pretty shiny, and are cool to show to friends at school who've never seen that kind of stuff).

I've been trying to keep an eye on the Nintendo site, but it just keeps saying that the awards will be announced soon :(

No emails, either.  Not sure what they have in store for us, but I hope it's good!

An article from last year leads me to believe that they announced last year's rewards around July 15, so maybe we'll hear something next week.

Usually a couple of weeks. I'd be happy if they'd give us the gold Wii wheel that Japan got a few years back. It would tie in to Mario Kart 8 nicely.

I happened to get that back when I got platinum in 2012, since that was the best of the bunch for platinum prizes. It's not a really great prize, I mean the only thing I did with these was bring them to school and play some poker with friends during religion class. Those were fun times.

What is an Amiibo?

They're basically Nintendo's version of Skylanders or Disney Infinity toys. Nintendo announced them back at E3. They're little figurines that do... stuff. Amiibo will be supported by various Nintendo games, rather than just one. Super Smash Bros on the WiiU is supposed to eventually be compatible with them.

If you want more details/a better explanation, here's Nintendo's official page on Amiibo:

I-it-it's like uh... physical copies of DLC! Yeah! Who doesn't like having physical copies of everything, right? That's how I'm going to justify spending too much money on those silly things! :P
Seriously though, any Fire Emblem or Earthbound related Amiibo are insta-buys for me.

That's basically what they'll end up being to a lot of people.  The actual use of them seems okay and kinda interesting, but I doubt I'd get into it too much, I just think they are cool figurines lol

Oh. No. I don't want an Amiibo. I'm not into the figure-gaming thing. I mean, if it's well-made, I might use it as a statue on my game shelf. But that's about it.

I'm not into the figure gaming thing either. I have no interest whatsoever in Skylanders or Disney Infinity. The characters are the only things about the Amiibo that interest me. I'll probably end up buying a few, like yourself, only if they end up being well-made. From what I've seen, they look pretty good, though some look a wee bit fragile.

Currently I am not very interested at all, but this would convince me to buy them.

Oh, you dont have to preach to me about buying interactive figures. I have well over 100 Skylander figures and its annoying to keep buying them. But if the platinum reward is some limited Amiibo, I will be pretty happy. It has to be better than a lot of the last couple year's rewards.

I'd buy 2! I don't think that's how these figures are gonna work at all, but would be cool lol

Here's an intro pic to the Amiibo. I already want Link, Zelda, Samus, Pit, the Fire Emblem guy, and if all the characters from SSB are going to become an Amiibo, I have a lot more Im going to be after.
