https://www.change.org/petitions/square-enix-localize-dragon-quest-7-3ds-and-dragon-quest-10-on-wii-u-pc-to-the-us-and-europe
Really hope something like this shows Square Enix that other cultures besides Japanese want to play DQ games.
-
It's been waaaaaaaay too long since SquareEnix localized any DQ games. I really hope petitions like these can make a difference. :)

Since we're on the subject and all, was there any cheaper re-releases of DW IV on NES? That was by far my favorite NES entry in the series, but it goes for extraordinary prices.

There's a DS remake of DW IV called Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the chosen. Although it's not as expensive to get as the NES original, it's starting to go up in price.

Signed. I can kinda understand them not localizing X because of the online portion - server requirements, etc. (same way I can *kinda* understand that about Sega & PSO2, but that doesn't mean I like it :P) But VII? There's zero excuse. ???

Alright, I signed it. I won't play it, but I signed it so you DQ people can quit your yammering.
If you can go an extra mile and get Atlus to publish it, my wife will buy it. For some reason she's hung up on buying Atlus games.
-
Heh if thats what it takes! :)
And your wife has good taste (in games anyhow ... her taste in husbands is obviously weird). At least its not something like Color Dreams or LJN.

I agree on VII. There really is no reason to not do it.

Don't forget the two 3DS remakes of the first two Dragon Warrior Monsters games! DQ VII's remake and DQ X aren't the only releases SquareEnix have been neglecting. :'(
*Fixed part of this for you. :) *

I didn't even know they had remade those! :o

One step at a time. Im afraid if they released the monster games first, sales may not be up to the outrageous sales level they expect and chances of anything following would be even less likely than what we are getting already.

Signed 'cuz Soera 8)

Signed it. I've been pretty mad at how Square Enix has handled the franchise in the last few years, seeing as how they feel that DQ doesn't really matter to the Western market. Those ds remakes of dq iv, v, and vi had to be mostly promoted by nintendo since square enix didn't feel like promoting it and localizing it to the states. I would like to get the chance to play the dragon quest vii 3ds remake, since I've heard alot of good things about it.

Wow, thanks for the stealthy admin edit. Took me a couple moments to realize the error I had made. Or maybe it wasn't an error. :o Seeing as SquareEnix definitely didn't release a DQ XII remake yet, because they haven't even released DQ XII yet. :P Yeah, I like that excuse. 8)

I'm hoping that their new-found insight that we actually do still like traditional RPGs thanks to the great sales of Bravely Default will prompt them to localize it.
Oh, and welcome to the site! :D

It really baffles me that Nintendo hasn't been breathing down Square's neck to get them to localize this given how much the Wii U has been struggling. The DQ fanbase is pretty big, and it would have probably outsold many of the other Wii u titles that Nintendo has bothered to localize thus far. AND WHERE THE HELL IS YAKUZA 1 + 2 HD?!

Thanks argyle!! I'm glad to finally find a good collecting database to store my game info!
I feel that those sales figures from Bravely Default have a strong indication that the turn based JRPGs can still work well to North American audiences if you put the time and energy into your products. I played through the whole game on hard mode, and I have to say, despite some fairly noticeable flaws in the game structure, it was a pretty fun jrpg experience from start to finish, and I can't wait for the sequel, and any of their jrpgs they release here in the U.S.

Its funny that Bravely Default is mentioned. As far as I know, the sales of DQ IX is pretty close to the sales of Bravely Default yet one is considered mediocre and they other is great (btw, nothing against Bravely Default as its one of my top 10 games ... just interesting the way it worked out).

I really dont understand their train of thought "Hrmm, everyone here in Japan loves Dragon quest. Lets say fuck the rest of the world on getting to enjoy it as much as we do".

Square is weird. They were disappointed in Tomb Raider's sales even tho by everyone else's standards it was a huge success. It just didn't sell COD numbers. ???

Better question, where is Yakuza 5??? :'(

I'm not really sure what they're thinking about this. I know that the Dragon Quest series has generally hasn't sold very in the US, at least compared to how well it does in Japan. They probably feel that they should only focus on the games that would appeal to their Western audiences, and to them, they might think that Dragon Quest wouldn't bring enough sales from countries outside of Asia, and as a result, they wouldn't feel like putting forth the effort to bring it to others outside of Japan. I'm just a bit disgusted with their rationale of their handling the DQ series for international audiences. The only thing they've done in the last month for the dq series was an ios/android port of dragon quest 8.

If anyone is interested in owning DQX - the Japanese version - just for their collection, CD Japan has it on clearance right now for about $19 US + whatever shipping is. That's the Wii version, btw.

Says they only have 9 in stock, so if anyone IS interested don't wait around on it.

Has Nintendo not ditched the Wii & DS internet functionality in Japan yet? Good deal though, especially considering the Wii's region protection is easy to bypass without making permanent modifications to your system.

Ok, that's a pretty cool deal that I might just get. I can always mod my Wii if necessary since I found a guide to connect to Japanese servers for the game, although the amount of stuff you need to do to connect is extensive, and apparently you also need a 16gb sd card to hold all the online data of the game.

I don't know if any of you listen to Pat the NES Punk's Podcast, but your petition was brought up on there. You're welcome.

So DQX for Wii came in the mail today. From what I read up, this version from cdjapan is actually an expansion pack for the game(hence the version 2 on the front cover). The expansion contains some new areas, a casino that has 8 player roulette/slot machines, a few new characters, and access to the Monster Master job, which lets you take control of enemies(like DQV and DQ VI) and use them against other enemies. Looks pretty nice for a Wii game, although I need to first the first edition of the game, as it has 2 discs, one for installing dqx data into a 16gb memory stick, and the other is for the actual game, so i may look for the wii or wii u version to fully access everything in the game.
