Title: Upcoming Niche Japanese Imports
Post by: abe on July 17, 2014, 10:31:56 am
We have a thread for upcoming Japanese games to North America, but no thread for stuff that hasn't left Japan yet. I figured I'd make one and try to keep it updated regularly. This thread is specifically for upcoming Japanese games which have not yet been announced for North American release. As long as there's a little bit of interest in me continuing this, I'll try to keep it as up to date as I can. There's quite a bit of stuff to keep track of, so any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

So, Nippon Ichi's new Vita game that they've been teasing for a bit was "Great Edo Blacksmith". As the main character, it is your job to make monies and befriend pretty ladies before your year to live is over. It sounds like it's going to be an RPG of sorts. NIS says the game is targeted at men in their 20s, and they want it to become a (fanservice) game like Criminal Girls. The game releases in Japan on November 27th of this year.

Unfortunately, no Disgaea news yet. :'(

Corpse Party: Blood Drive released today! Now hurry up already Xseed and announce its localization! >:( A game from the developers of Demon Gaze released today as well (surprise surprise, it's another dungeon crawler) Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss for the PS Vita.
A super fancy "Treasure Box" Edition of Toukiden Extreme for the Vita has also been announced.

Not sure if anybody really cares about this thread but oh well. :-\

Atlus has revealed in an interview that they're working on a brand new IP. There's supposed to be a formal announcement coming some time soon. They're also working on another game that isn't supposed to be released for 3 whole years. Or maybe it's the same one. The article I read wasn't super clear on that. Here's a link to where I read this. --> http://www.siliconera.com/2014/07/29/atlus-working-brand-new-ip-will-announce-another-game-soon/ (http://www.siliconera.com/2014/07/29/atlus-working-brand-new-ip-will-announce-another-game-soon/)

Absolutely!

I'm curious what new thing they're working on, but I gotta say the main thing I want from Atlus right now is more P5 info.  ;)  Also, not strictly Atlus related but since they published their last game - wonder what VanillaWare is up to these days?

Yay for more Etrian Odyssey! It probably won't be too long before it gets announced for localization, but I can't imagine that we'll be getting this until some time next year.

In other news, Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 has been announced for the 3DS and the PS Vita (yay). The game is set to release some time this year.

Nice, I will definitely be picking that one up if it gets localized.  I missed out on the series on DS, but did get the 3DS remake of Etrian Odyssey 1, and really enjoyed my time with it.  Made it about a quarter of the way through it, but never went back.  I think that is the game I will go back and start playing now in preparation for this.

One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X (Yes, there's an exclamation mark before the end of the title) is set to release in Japan on the 3DS this coming winter (Q4 2014). I wouldn't be too shocked if this one reached North America eventually.

Aside from One Piece, a couple visual novels have also been announced. Rail Wars! and Nisekoi Marriage!? are both set to release on November 27th, 2014 in Japan for the PS Vita.

Last but certainly not least (I'm looking forward to this one the most), a sequel to XBlaze: Code Embryo has been announced! XBlaze: Lost Memories is set to release for the PS3 & Vita in Japan in 2015.

I wonder how well Code Embryo sold over here.  I still need to pick that one up.

EDIT:  The Yokai Watch series NEEDS to come to the US!  The sequel is the #1 selling game in Japan again this week and has almost sold 2 million copies there alone!  For comparison, they recently announced Ni no Kuni sold 1.1 million worldwide, and they consider that a success too.  Never enough Level-5 goodness - here's the trailer for the sequel:

That's a good question. Hopefully it sold well enough for the sequel to get released over here. I don't see why it wouldn't, Aksys is pretty good about localizing all the Blazblue games, including the spinoffs.

Lost Dimension for the PS Vita and Senran Kagura 2: Shinku for the 3DS have released today.
Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax has also been given a release date of November 14th for the PS3 & PS Vita. It has also gotten a new trailer. I really hope this one makes it to North America, but it's just a fighting game. Importing it and playing it wouldn't be too difficult.
Aside from that, Arc System Works has announced that they're remaking a Famicom game for the PS3. Specifically, one of the Kunio-kun games, Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundoukai. It is set to release some time this winter in Japan.

A bunch of stuff today. :)

Chaos;Child releases for the XBone (odd choice of platform for a visual novel) on November 27th, 2014. Chaos;Child is the fourth visual novel in 5pb.'s "Science Adventure" series. The only one we've gotten a North American release for was a PC version of Steins;Gate, so unfortunately it's unlikely we'll see this one localized.

M3 The Dark Metal: Mission Memento Mori releases for the PS Vita on November 20th, 2014. M3 The Dark Metal is based of the anime of the same name which is currently airing in Japan.

Kamen Rider: SummonRide
releases on the WiiU and PS3 some time this December. The game is a lot like Skylanders or Disney Infinity. As you would expect, it has Kamen rider related characters for figurines.

I'm interested in that shooter - I suck at shmups, but I still enjoy playing them from time to time.  :)

I had missed your previous post when it first went up, but reading it now I'd say it's a pretty safe bet we'll never see any of those 3 games in the West.  :P

I somehow completely forgot about Forbidden Magna. I saw a new trailer the other day, reminding me I needed to put this here. The development team has many former employees of Neverland, the developer known for Rune Factory. The game releases in Japan for the 3DS on October 2nd, 2014. This one will likely see a western release at some point. Xseed has already expressed interest in localizing it (you can read about that here: http://www.siliconera.com/2014/02/17/xseed-interested-forbidden-magna/ (http://www.siliconera.com/2014/02/17/xseed-interested-forbidden-magna/)).

Inti Creates has announced a new game in the works for the 3DS. The game is a crossover/collaboration project involving Mighty No. 9, Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Galgun. The new game will be called Mighty Gunvolt, and will feature Beck from Mighty No. 9, Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Eroko from Galgun as playable characters. The game is set to be a download title unfortunately. I haven't read anything about a release date yet. This seems potentially interesting, though the inclusion of Galgun in the collaboration seems a bit out of place. ???

Mighty Gunvolt has been announced for release in North America, which means I'm done talking about it in this thread. :)

Psycho-Pass, an anime series from a couple years ago, has been announced to be getting a video game adaptation from 5pb. for the Xbone. Not too many details have been given so far, but it is set to make an appearance at this year's Tokyo Game Show. If you'd like to read a little more, here's the link to the article I read about it in: http://gematsu.com/2014/08/psycho-pass-game-confirmed-tgs-2014 (http://gematsu.com/2014/08/psycho-pass-game-confirmed-tgs-2014)

Well, I'm a bit behind on this thread. I'll try to tidy things up now that I'm back, and update the main post as much as I can. As I've said before, any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Released since I last updated the thread:
Bullet Girls (PS Vita)
Caladrius Blaze (PS3)
Super Robot Wars OG Saga Masou Kishin F: Coffin of the End (PS3)
Toukiden Extreme (PS Vita)
Ultradimension Action Neptunia U (PS Vita)

A few things I need to get around to adding:
Disgaea 5 (PS4) (It will definitely be localized eventually, but there's no official announcement yet, so in this thread it goes!)
Dragon Quest Heroes (PS3 & 4) (I doubt this will get localized, with the way Square Enix treats the franchise)
Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force (PS4)
God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4 & Vita)
Luminous Arc Infinity (PS Vita)
Senran Kagura: Estival Versus (PS4 & Vita)
Ys (PS4 & Vita) (Waiting on an actual title for this one)

Honestly, I will be surprised if Dragon Quest Heroes doesn't make it to the US.  True, S-E has been spotty at best localizing DQ titles, but there hasn't been a "Warriors" game that hasn't been released in the US so far to the best of my knowledge.

Added what I could for now to the main post, I'll clean it up some more later.
Also added the physical release of Dekamori Senran Kagura, since this is the first time Japan is getting a physical release for it. We're getting the game in North America as Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit, but as with Japan, we're only starting out with a digital only release. No plans for a physical release in NA as of yet.

Davifus, a quick amiami question - I see they have the new reprint/reduced price Tales of Vesperia for PS3 listed but they don't tell you how much shipping costs will be.   :-\  How much is it generally to ship a game from Japan through them?

I'm assuming you're talking about the Tales of 20th anniversary (Vesperia). AmiAmi does not calculate the preorder shipping until items is released and in their possession. From my experience of ordering a single PS3 game (J-Star Victory ansion edition) my shipping was about 1200yen or about $10-$11 (dollars are stronger than Jap yens) with EMS (the best shipping service they provide). They have many other options for their shipping but I try to get the best shipping as possible so I can avoid any possible damage or loss during transport. I have preorder many things from AmiAmi like figures, games, and a console.

Added in a couple things I missed:
Shining Resonance (PS3) out on December 11th, 2014
Tales of Zestiria (PS3) rumored but not confirmed for January 22nd, 2015
I'm not sure how I managed to forget Tales of Zestiria, considering how long ago it was announced. Better late than never I guess. I wonder how long it'll be before we get this Tales game. With the recent history of the series, I wouldn't be surprised if we got it within a couple years. Not sure about Shining Resonance though.

*Edit: Just noticed Play Asia has North American and European copies of Tales of Zestiria up for preorder. Maybe I missed some big announcement? Has there been an official announcement for the localization of Zestiria? Anyone else hear about this yet?

I'm not sure how I managed to forget Tales of Zestiria, considering how long ago it was announced. Better late than never I guess. I wonder how long it'll be before we get this Tales game. With the recent history of the series, I wouldn't be surprised if we got it within a couple years. Not sure about Shining Resonance though.

*Edit: Just noticed Play Asia has North American and European copies of Tales of Zestiria up for preorder. Maybe I missed some big announcement? Has there been an official announcement for the localization of Zestiria? Anyone else hear about this yet?

Zesteria was the first Tales game to be announced for release in NA at the same time it was announced for Japan (note, it's not *coming out* at the same time, it was just announced that it is getting localized at the same time ;) ).  So yeah, it's already on my list.  :P

I hope that Shining game gets a US release too, but...it's published by Sega, right?  :(

They haven't given a date, but it'll be out next year.  The Japanese version is apparently coming out early next year, and they've gone on record as saying that the time between the Japanese release & the US release is going to be much shorter than it has been in the past for Tales games.

Davifus, a quick amiami question - I see they have the new reprint/reduced price Tales of Vesperia for PS3 listed but they don't tell you how much shipping costs will be.   :-\  How much is it generally to ship a game from Japan through them?

Amiami is the only JP shipper I use. Their shipping costs arent great but they arent horrible either. They are 100% reliable however.

AmiAmi has the best price around hands down and they have more reasonable shipping than Play-Asia.

Another new visual novel (that will probably never reach western shores) for the Vita! Captain Earth: Mind Labyrinth is a visual novel based off of the anime Captain Earth (sorry, it's got nothing to do with Captain Planet :'(). The game is due out in Japan on February 26th, 2015.
In other news, the 3DS version of Dragon Quest X released a couple days ago in Japan. I can't wait to never see this released in the west either. :'(

Sengoku Hime 5 has been announced for release on the PS3, 4, & Vita. The game is a mix of visual novel and strategy RPG. No word on a release date as of yet.

Not a whole lot of other news recently, though I am excited for TGS 2014. This year, Sega is supposed to be announcing a new Hatsune Miku project. From what I understand, it's separate from the Project Diva & Project Mirai series. I can't wait to see where they're going with this! :D

I'd like to point out first that Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth3: V Century has been announced for the PS Vita. ;D I'm particularly excited because it is very likely we'll see this one localized, given the history of the series.

I gotta admit, I'm *very* tempted to trade/sell my other 2 Nep games on the PS3 in favor of just getting the "upgraded" series - especially since I plan on getting a Playstation (Vita) TV at some point and will be able to play them on the big screen with a controller anyway.  Is there any reason this would be a bad idea?  :)

Well, HDN Re;Birth3 isn't going to be as much of an upgrade over the console versions as Re;Birth1 and 2 were, so it's more of a port than a remake. If I wasn't a fan of the series, I wouldn't see much of a reason to get Re;Birth3 if you already have HDN Victory (my personal favorite in the series so far). Of course, since I am a fan I'm going to buy and play them all. The HDN Re;Birth series was meant to make the first two games more like HDN Victory, which is the game Re;Birth3 is be based off of. Unless you're a fan of the series, swapping out HDN and HDN Mk.2 for HDN Re;Birth1 and 2 isn't a bad idea. One thing to note is that while the main plot of the remakes are more are less the same as the originals, the story is changed a wee bit here and there.

(Short answer) For you personally it's really not a bad idea.

Hrm, well even if HDN3 doesn't get much of an upgrade I'd prefer to have them all on the same system.  I'll think about it some more, but after confirming that the Re;Birth games do in fact run on the Vita TV I'm leaning towards doing it.  Not seeing a downside.  :)

I've just learned that Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 will not be compatible with the Playstation TV on its launch in North America. Might want to keep that in mind before you go and sell or trade your PS3 versions.

The USK, Germany’s game rating board, has rated a “Hyperdimension Neptunia Hypercollection” for PlayStation 4.

Another title, “The Arland Trilogy,” was also rated for PlayStation 3.

Here's some news for you today now that I'm reviving this thread:

-Corpse Party Blood Covered Repeated Fear is being adapted for release on the 3DS.

This is more-or-less rumor I suppose, or at the most confirmation of something that will probably happen? Anyway, this has me really excited:

Quote
While Granzella is hard at work on Disaster Report, many wonder if any other Irem franchises will get the Granzella revival treatment.

“I receive questions like, ‘When are you going to announce a Steambot Chronicles sequel?'” Kujo said. “We have deep love for the games, but right now I can only promise Disaster Report.”

Well, even that’s good enou—

“April Fools! Of course we’ll do it.”

Well, alright then, Kujo.

I updated the op, fixing some some and added a recently released section (like in Argyle's thread).

I also added Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden (3DS) to the op. There have been no shortage of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z related games over the years, but this one stands out in particular (at least to me it does). What makes this Dragon Ball Z game special is that it's being developed by Arc System Works, the same developer that's brought us the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series. Some of the recent Dragon Ball games have been a bit meh, but I think this one has great potential. :)

Really hoping it gets localized.  2D DBZ fighter by Arc System? That's just too good lol Not sure about a fighting game on the 3DS, but I'll take it since DBZ games are so poor these days.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse looks like it could be pretty cool, but last year's Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z was pretty dissapointing. Hopefully Extreme Butoden will deliver. If anyone can make a proper 2D DBZ fighting game, Arc System Works definitely can. Based on the game's name, Extreme Butoden could be similar to the Dragon Ball Z Butoden games for the Super Famicom. I'm looking forward to seeing more info and some trailers for the game, and I'll be sure to post one or two here when they're released.

I've never been a big Dragonball Z fan, but I was definitely interested when I heard Arc System Works was developing a new fighter...until I saw it was for the 3DS. I don't really care for fighters on a portable, seems like a waste to me. :\

New (and some old) game announcements!

-Death Beneath the Labyrinth (PS Vita) - This game is currently being developed by Compile Heart, and details are scarce at the moment. According to the game's teaser website, more details will be revealed on the game in a couple days.

-Raygigant (PS Vita) - This one's a dungeon crawler developed collaboratively by Experience and Bandai Namco. The story revolves around a relatively small cast of three main characters and is set in a dystopian future where the earth has been destroyed by a monster known as the "gigant". The game is set to release in Japan this summer.

-Tokyo Xanadu (PS Vita) - This one is an action-RPG developed by Falcom and is due out in Japan some time later this year. It looks pretty promising so far, and if we're lucky it will see a North American release eventually.

*Edit: Here's a purdy new IA/VT Colorful gameplay trailer.

Danganronpa 3 has been announced to be in early stages of development! Seeing as we've gotten the first two for the Vita, and are getting the spinoff as well, it's only a matter of time before this one gets announced for localization as well. For now though, I'll put it in this thread since it's relevant.

In other news, a game based of the anime series Psycho-Pass has been announced for the Xbone, and a sequel to Inticreates' Gal☆Gun has been announced (platform not yet announced). Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is a visual novel being developed by 5pb., and Gal☆Gun's sequel will presumably be another on-rails shooter.

Two new Neptunia spinoffs have been announced for release on the PS Vita, Extreme Dimension Tag Blanc + Neptune VS Zombie Army and Hyperdimension Great War Neptune Vs. Sega Hardware Girls. There's not a great deal of info on them yet, but Blanc's game will have some kind of multiplayer, and from what little gameplay I've seen, it also looks similar to the Monster Hunter franchise. There's even less info on Great War Neptune, and the only notable thing I've heard is that it will feature characters from Sega Hardware Girls series, where Sega consoles are depicted as goddesses (similar to the Neptunia franchise, but specifically for Sega consoles).

Here's some gameplay for Blanc's game

An interesting new rhythm game for the PS Vita has been announced. Miracle Girls Festival is extremely similar to and uses the same engine as Hatsune Miku's rhythm series, Project DIVA. The game will feature female characters from various anime serieseses, including Yuru Yuri. It is being developed by Sega and is planned to see a release in Japan next winter.

Here's a screenshot to give you an idea of what it will look like.

A pretty big announcement came from Square Enix today (and it actually wasn't an April Fools' joke). Dragon Quest Heroes II has been announced for release for the PS3, PS3, and PS Vita in Japan. It's surprising considering how recently the first game released.

In other news, Rhythm Heaven: The Best+ has been announced for the 3DS. It will contain new and old rhythm minigames from the series.

Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden (3DS) now has a release date of June 11th for Japan. I'll post the trailer below. I'm not too sure what to think of the assist characters, but it's super cool that the game will come with a download code for the original Super Famicom version of Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2.

I didn't really have anything better to do, so I've given the OP a thorough update. I've updated some release dates, added images, trailers, etc. I've also added some games that I've missed/forgotten to add for whatever reason. For instance, the 3DS chibi-ified port of Atelier Rorona has been delayed back until June.

A couple of the things I've added (and haven't mentioned recently):

-Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness (Xbone) - May 28th
-Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi (PS4 & 3) - July 23rd

I've updated the OP again with some more new info.

-Corpse Party: Blood Covered Repeated Fear (3DS) is a port of the PSP remake of the original game. Not too much will be changed from the PSP version, but some extra story content made by the developers of the original game will be added. A limited edition for the game will also be available with similar contents to the PSP version's limited edition (a soundtrack and an artbook thing). Hopefully this will eventually be released over here some way or another. The game will release in Japan this July 30th.

-Utawarerumono has been announced for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. The game will be a sequel to the original visual novel which released in Japan on the PC, and eventually the PS2 and PSP. It will be published by Aquaplus, the same publisher responsible for the Tears to Tiara franchise and many other visual novels. The game is due to be released in Japan on September 24th of this year.

I feel like this is a shoe-in to get a NA release, but since nothing's been announced yet...

Star Ocean 5 has been announced for PS3 & PS4:

Updated the OP a little. Added Star Ocean V: Integrity and Faithlessness (PS4 & PS3) and Taiko Drum Master: V Version (PS Vita).

In other news, a leak has been released on The Witch and the Hundred Knight Revival, which is what is to be revealed by NIS's new countdown website: http://nippon1.jp/consumer/new_title/ (http://nippon1.jp/consumer/new_title/). No other details have been leaked yet, but with NIS's recent decision leave the PS3 behind and to move to the PS4 and PS Vita, it's pretty safe to say it will release for one of Sony's newest systems. Seeing as the PS3 version released in North America, this will probably eventually see a localization after its release in Japan. I still need to play the original, I keep getting distracted by other things. :(

Some minor news today, nothing huge.

Makaishin Trillion (PS Vita) has been delayed to July from its previous release date of some time this May.

More in-depth news on Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force (PS4) is due out tomorrow from Compile Heart.

Last but not least, the most interesting news to me today, Sega has been gauging interest on a console port of the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA arcade game. They've put out a survey (sorry, but I don't have the link to it :'() asking players what console they'd like to see it ported to. The options are the PS3, PS4 (:D), Xbone, WiiU, PC, smartphone (I hope this isn't a popular choice >:(), and "not applicable" (because apparently there are people who could be bothered to do the survey that don't want to see a port... ???). My guess is that Sony's consoles will likely be the most popular options. I'd personally love to see it release for the PS4, and with the way things have been over here for the series lately it's fairly likely that it would get localized. If it doesn't, it's a rhythm game so it's import-friendly anyways. I'm just glad that I'll be able to play the game without having to travel to some arcade in Japan. :) (as long as it isn't released on a region-locked console)

Thanks, I will. :) I've looked around and I can't find it (I'm probably not looking hard enough). I've even checked the arcade game's official Japanese website, which surprisingly has an English version (of the Japanese web page).

Yet again, I've neglected this thread for a couple months, but I'll try to clean things up and update it properly over the next few days. :-[ That aside, here's some recent news.

Criminal Girls 2 has been leaked by Amazon Japan, and is reported to be due out in Japan for a November 26th release. More details are likely to be detailed soon in a Weekly Famitsu issue. It's likely only a PS Vita release.

Dragon Quest Builders has been announced for release on the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. It looks something like a combination of Dragon Quest, Minecraft, and 3D Dot Game Heroes. The game is due for release in Japan this winter.

Steins;Gate 0 has been announced for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. The game is a sequel based off of some of the events which took place in the Steins;Gate: Epigraph of the Closed Curve light novel. An anime adaptation is planned already as well. Perhaps if Steins;Gate does well enough over here when it releases in August for the PS3 and Vita, this one will eventually see a localization as well. Steins;Gate 0 will release in Japan on November 19th.

News time!

Digimon World: Next Order has been announced for a 2016 release on the PS Vita in Japan. It's a pretty new announcement, so there's not too much info out on it yet.

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 has been announced for the 3DS. Not much to say here. It's just going to be more DQM Joker with new features and whatnot.

Net High for the PS Vita has been given a release date of November 26th.

Atlus and Vanillaware have announced that their previously teased collaboration project is an HD remaster/remake of the PS2 game Odin Sphere. The remake, titled Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir will be released on the PS4, PS3, and the PS Vita in Japan on January 14th, 2016. I'd say a localization is pretty likely, though for the moment no plans for a localization have been officially announced.

VERY excited about this, I loved Odin Sphere. :)

But they actually have 2 projects on the way - they're also working on a new IP w/ Atlus that will be announced in Sept.

I'm really excited about Odin Sphere as well.  It's in my backlog (of course), but I love the look of Vanillaware games, but I heard that this particular title definitely chugs on the PS2.  I look forward to how it is handled on the newer consoles.

And a new IP! Exciting!

Spike Chunsoft and tri-Ace have announced their RPG collaboration project: Exist Archive: The other Side of the Sky. It has sci-fi themes and is set in modern day Tokyo as well as on a fictional planet known as Protolexa. The plot revolves around a group of 12 young humans with special powers granted by evil deities residing within them. From what I've read, it seems that dungeon exploration takes place along a 2D plane similar to Child of Life, with battles taking place on a different screen (also like Child of Life). The game is set to release some time this year in Japan on the PS4 and PS Vita.

There's plenty more info here for those who are interested: http://gematsu.com/2015/07/exist-archive-first-game-system-details (http://gematsu.com/2015/07/exist-archive-first-game-system-details)

It's about time for another mini update. I'll update the OP later.

-Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 has been announced to be in development for the PS4 and Vita. No solid release date announced yet. There's also a possibility of a North American release according to the game's producer, Yosuke Hayashi. If it were to see a release in North America, apparently it would undergo some "adjustments" before it would be released here.

-Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires will receive a PS Vita release. No release date has been announced. It's possible that we may see a release for the game in North America, as previous Dynasty Warriors Vita games have received localizations.

-Majo Koi Nikki, a visual novel from Kaga Create, is receiving a PS Vita port.

-Miracle Girls Festival (PS Vita) now has a solid release date of December 17th in Japan. ;D

-Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to the PS4 in Japan some time in 2016.

-Picross 3D 2 has been announced for release on the 3DS in Japan on October 1st. The game will support the use of Amiibo in some way. The original Picross 3D for the Nintendo DS did see a North American release, so I'd say we'll probably get this eventually. No official word on that yet though.

-Summon Night 6: Lost Borders has been announced for the PS4 and Vita. It's due for a release in Japan in Spring of 2016. Depending on how well Summon Night 5 for the PSP sells over here after the presale period is up, there is a possibility of a North American release.

SEGA trolling much?

I played this game on JP servers for like one year, that's a really good game and not releasing it in the West is simply a shame. The way the game works means the publisher would have needed a good team to produce a lot of community events content, which works wonder in Japan with the SEGA team but maybe they never found any competent western team to handle this or wouldn't take the financial risk after the crisis they went through...

Anyway i'm sure this could have been a big success and even with friends on the JP server with a patched game client, the language barrier was frustrating and not being part of the community events was kinda lame, that's why we finally stopped after a year.

I still wish they'd localize PSO2 because I was a big PSO fan back in the day. But I'm not sure I'd really care as much as I would have back when the game was first announced. Franklly, Warframe has out-PSO'd PSO. PSO2 would have to be mind-blowingly awesome to compete IMO, and I just get the feeling I'd be let down by it now.

-Nobunaga's Ambition: Tenshouki is receiving an HD port with some added improvements for the PS Vita in Japan on November 12th. Some of the additions to this version include an improved interface with touch control support, as well as trophies. It releases in Japan on November 12th. It's not particularly likely to get a North American release, but there may be a slight possibility of a localization if Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence (PS4) does when it releases in NA next Tuesday.

-Nippon Ichi Software has announced a new title, a dungeon crawler called Refrain no Chika Meikyuu to Majo no Ryodan for the Vita. According to the Gematsu article (http://gematsu.com/2015/08/nippon-ichi-refrain-revealed-ps-vita) I read, it translates to something like Refrain’s Underground Labyrinth and the Witch Brigade. Not too many details out for it yet, other than a rough release date of winter for Japan. Most of NIS's games seem to be getting localizations lately, so I can't imagine that this would be any different.

-Hyperdimension Great War Neptune Vs. Sega Hardware Girls (PS Vita) has been given a Japanese release date of November 26th. I'm assuming that this will receive a North American release eventually because the rest of the Neptunia franchise has so far.

-Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters is receiving an updated version in Japan. The game, Mato Kurenai Yuugekitai: Daybreak Special Gigs, will release on the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita in Japan this November.

New Miku game yay! ;D ;D ;D

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X has been announced for release in Japan in 2016. The Vita version is due for a release some time in March, while the PS4 version will be releasing some time in the fall of 2016. A localization is pretty likely, given the way SEGA has handled the franchise in North America lately.

Remember when Sega had a poll to see what console people would most like to see a port of the arcade game on? No? Well... they did a poll back in April, and now they've just announced that it's coming to the PS4 as Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone. So hyped. ;D ;D ;D It releases in Japan in 2016.

Lots of other news too today now that TGS2015 is underway.
-Gravity Daze 2 has been announced for a 2016 release on the PS4 in Japan (nope, no Vita version).
-New Danganronpa V3 has been announced for the PS4 and PS Vita, no details on a release date yet.
-Toukiden 2 has been announced for release on the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita in Japan in 2016.
-13 Sentinel: Aegis Rim was revealed to be the project that Vanillaware was teasing earlier this year. Other than the name and some art, not too many details have been given yet. The game will release on the PS4 and Vita.
-Yakuza 6 was announced for a Fall 2016 release on the PS4 in Japan.
-Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme VS Force was announced for release on the PS Vita.

The PS4 really seems to be doing well in terms of upcoming releases, and it seems that more developers are finally putting more effort into the system.

Lots more to be announced at TGS2015, I'll try to cover as much of it as I can on here. Hope you enjoy. :)

Time to temporarily bring this thread back from the dead before I forget about it again in a a couple weeks for the nth time. Here's some stuff I thought might be interesting. A lot of my info is from Gematsu, with some stuff from Siliconera as well.

Recently
-Etrian Odyssey V (3DS) has been officially given a release date of August 4th for Japan. According to an interview in Famitsu, the game is roughly 60% complete. The character creation has been greatly improved upon, with a great deal more customization options than were previously available in earlier titles. A localization is likely, though there's no word on that yet.
-Dragon Quest Heroes II: The Twin Kings and the Prophecy’s End (PS4, 3, & Vita) will be releasing May 27th in Japan.
-Uppers (PS Vita), a beat-em-up from Senran Kagura producer Kenichiro Takaki, has been delayed for further improvements in response to low number of pre-orders. The game was previously planned for an April 21st release.
-Caligula (PS Vita), an RPG sharing the same scenario writer as Persona 1 and 2, has been announced by FuRyu to be in development by Aquiria. The game is roughly half finished and planned for a June 23rd release in Japan.

Old News I Haven't Mentioned Yet
-Gundam Breaker 3 (PS4 & Vita) releases this Thursday, March the 3rd. An Asian version with English language options will be releasing on April 28th.
-Summon Night 6 (PS4) will be releasing in Japan next Thursday, March the 10th. Unfortunately there won't be English available in the Asian release, that turned out to be misinformation initially from Play-Asia, then spread through various gaming news sites.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Future Tone (PS4) now has a Japanese release date of June 23rd. The game will be available through the Japanese PSN store only, with the game application releasing as free software known as "Prelude". Two song packs will be available to be purchased and used with the application. "Future Sound" and "Colorful Tone" will cost 3900 yen before taxes. If one were to purchase both packs, the game will have well over 200 songs and a huge number of modules as well.

While I'd like to say a localization is likely, with the huge number of songs and all the licensing issues that would come with releasing them in another country, it's more than likely that this game will stay in Japan. However, the PS4 is region free and it's not too difficult to make a Japanese PSN account to buy the game with. Those who preorder the game will receive two original PS4 themes as a bonus.
