Title: September 2014 - Recently Added to Collection/Recently Purchased
Post by: bikingjahuty on September 01, 2014, 11:06:09 am
Here we go again!!

These are my spoils over the weekend. The .Hack GU games weren't cheap, but better then what they're going for on Ebay right now. Just need Wild Arms 5 and Altercode F to round out the more expensive PS2 games I still need.

Nice - I think the most expensive ones left for my PS2 RPG collection are the last 2 .hack GU games and the Wild Arms games other than WA3.

I was hoping when I finally picked this up that it would be the special edition, but at $5 I would have been stupid to pass on it.

Had quite a bit of Paypal loot to burn through so I scooped up quite a bit stuff this last month. Here's some of the more notable of it. Not pictured is The Last Story for the WII which I would have gotten today if it weren't a holiday. Damn you Labor Day!  >:(

Game Gear - Sonic 2 - Streets of Rage 2 - Shining Force The Sword of Hajya
Intellivision - Diner - Popeye
Genesis/MS - Phantasy Star II - Shining Force - Paperboy
WII/GC - Donkey Konga - Super Mario Galaxy 2
other - Tales of Symphonia Chronicles - NES dognone controller - Breath of Fire III

Got a couple of 2600's dirt cheap that were being sold for parts/repair. The six switch just had a cracked solder joint on the cartridge connector that needed to be resoldered. There was actually nothing wrong with the junior. The dummy probably tried to use a NES or Genesis RF switch with it not knowing that it wouldn't work with that. I think six is enough 2600's I'm not going to buy another except for maybe a Coleco Gemeni or two :P

Been wanting a Dogbone NES controller forever. But all I keep running across are the after-market third-party reproductions. I want a Nintendo one.

Yeah those third party ones stink. I tried a Tomee one in the past and the second I took it out of the box the cord fell out of the controller. It wasn't even soldered onto the control board. I then soldered it onto the controller board and it worked for a month before it just inexplicably died.
Also the d-pad was cheap garbage. I guess  to save on plastic they didn't even mold the half ball that's on the bottom of a regular NES d-pad that allows it to rock from the center. You could actually press the center of the d-pad in and press all four directions at once.

You can find the real ones in the $20 range. Trust me it's worth the extra money.

Here I was, so proud to have been able to read the katakana as "Sword Art Online" and know what game it was without asking, and then I looked just under and saw it written in plain English.  ::) Someday, it will be useful to me. SOMEDAY. I SWEAR. For now, it only helped me once... When choosing a Ramune (http://www.asianfoodgrocer.com/blog/ramune-soda-group.jpg (http://www.asianfoodgrocer.com/blog/ramune-soda-group.jpg)) flavor in our local Chinatown  :P (in my defence, there weren't any fruit pictures on the ones I had in front of me then).

...in a more related topic, I'll have to try these games and watch the anime! Seems like it's really popular.

haha, is Katakana the only thing you can read in Japanese? Lol  8) Ramune, they're alright.

The only reason I got these were because of the recent US release of this game (Digital only). I wasn't going to spend $40 on air so I found that there are (Chinese & English Sub) official releases, so I got the regular Chinese & English Sub & and the Limited Edition (Asia) because the LE was on a %50 sale so i got it for like $60 rather then the $100 something. I just checked Play-Asia again and now the price for the LE I got is $40... Ouch... I recommend  the Chinese & English sub rather than the Digital copy. I only got the limited edition because of all the goodies inside (Really nice stuff, keeping the Game sealed because there is not point in opening it).

Yeah, The anime is alright too but I would recommenced to watch SAO & GGO before playing the game because there are character from both shows in this game. The game is in a weird non-existing plot after a certain battle in the Anime/Manga.

The Chinese & English SAO has some funny translation.

From what I hear, the digital only North American version of SAO: Hollow Fragment keeps the crappy English translations from the Asian region's version of the game.

I can read Hiragana without any problem, and I'm starting out with Kanji. I left katakana behind for a while though, and started learning them after starting Kanji... I'm that weird  :P

So I picked up a copy of Snatcher (SCD) this week. It's going to be traded off to a member here for a Box + Cart of Fun 'N Games (SNES). It's a terrible trade if you're interested in playing either, but as a collector it seems pretty legit. Only 2000 copies of Fun 'N Games were even made!

Very cool, im still in the beginning of learning katakana and hiragana (4th language) but im a totally beginner. I know some kanji because I know little bit of mandarin & cantonese but not enough to count it as my 5th.

I found a bunch of stuff for the store and for trading, but here's the stuff I'm keeping.

I found another copy of Evolution for Dreamcast, and another copy of one of the Project Gotham Racing 2 soundtrack CDs to replace the beat up copy I have somewhere. These were around $4 after discounting the other stuff that I bought.

I wasn't gonna pick up Evolution, until I saw the disc...

... it has no art on it. Remember that I was selling some discs that had no art a while back? (Pic (http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/Sales/dcdiscsets.jpg)) Apparently these were given out to press and testers... but they didn't include any artwork. Why did this one come with a manual and back cover? Maybe whoever got it stuck it in the case. I dunno.

In any case I'm glad to have the game back. Sorta. Heh. :p

Wow, Pesterminator is a hard game to find. Back when NES games were far more abundant in the wild, I snagged a copy at a flea market along with about 15 other good titles for $30.

And super jelly over Minecraft!!!! I don't own either console version, and seeing how much I like the series I'm sad I haven' picked it up, it only retails for $20 new :(

Bought an emerald GC controller finally. Got it fairly cheap because the sticks are messed up. I'm going to solder in a new one when the unit comes in.
Picked up a flattened SMB3 box from someone on NA.
And today I stopped by my local game store and got Batman: The Video Game (NES) and Pokemon Snap at about market value. Snap was probably my most rented game on the 64, other than Snowboard Kids. Damn it, I gotta get that game too!

Rayman 2, Quake 4, and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles I got from 99Gamers.com. Great way to get rid of those games that have been sitting, unclaimed, untraded forever and use them to get something you actually want!

Seeing that Quake 2 comes with Quake 4 was a nice little surprise. It certainly controls better than the PS1 version I had already.

I've done that on my phone/iPad a lot. Type out a whole post open tinypic to add a photo come back to an empty text box.

Now I type all my large posts into a text editor and paste them in when I am done. :)

Burningdoom:

Let me know what you think of the Umbrella Chronicles. Many people panned it. But I think it's a solid rails shooter and a fun way to speed run through the series.

Had a really good day today!  I finally got to the next town over to visit the game store that recently opened there.  I took with me my Halo collector's stuff that I had been wanting to get rid of - the Halo 3 cat helmet & all the other extras that came with that set (except the box), and all of the extras that came with the Halo Reach ultimate edition including the box.  I'm not much of a Halo fan, I only had those sets because I had gotten them on clearance a few years ago.  Anyway, the guy that runs the store looked them over & offered me $85 store credit for everything, which I thought was more than fair.  So I used it to pickup some games I had been looking for:

PS3:
Folklore
Portal 2
Rise of the Argonauts

PS2:
Shadow Hearts: From the New World
RPG Maker II
Sky Odyssey

Then I swung by the local Gamestop in that area and grabbed this stuff for $20 after a couple of coupons I had:

Wii:
Groovin' Blocks
Mad Dog McCree Gunslinger Pack

PS3:
Rock Band 3 Keyboard

Ran to the game store on Saturday for model paints. Wandered around a bit and over to the PS2 section. They had a b2g1 sale on them so I snagged these babies.

They also had 2 nice copies of Drakengard 2 but I couldn't afford to pick it up.

Out of curiosity, how much did they want for Drakengard 2?

I picked up the Destiny Ghost Ed. last night.  Very nice set, horrible midnight launch experience.  My local Best Buy apparently hires the people that every other retail store has either rejected or fired.   :-\

It was just over 20 bucks for that one. Came with everything in good condition and for a better price than I ever found online anywhere.

The game I was actually most excited to find was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Got it for 9 bucks and I hardly ever see it anywhere here, and on ebay it usually goes for 20 bucks or more for a complete copy.

I've done a little bit of research on it, and I guess this games was available in limited quantities at Toys R Us (at least in the USA) only in a few select markets (mostly major cities). Gamestop or none of the other major retailers received new copies of this game. There is no exact production numbers on this game, but it is estimated that there is less than 10,000 copies.

It is actually very good if chess is your thing. One thing I have noticed after playing it for a while is the AI difficulty is well matched to what you have it set at. I'd consider myself a average chess player, and playing it essentially on medium difficulty felt like I was playing an equal. That is something I have had issues with in other virtual chess games (medium is like playing a grand master or a three year old).

I technically got it at Gamestop. I have a friend who works there who has a list of games I am looking for and he got this in over the weekend. I had him put it on hold for me at picked it up on my way home today. Paid $20 for it, which is what Gamestop sells it used for. It is in like new condition so i'm happy :)

I was worried that one of the other employees would snipe this from underneath me given its rarity. In a similar situation an employee sniped a copy of Afrika on the PS3 from me, I was pissed lol. Luckily it didn't happen this time.

And thank you.

Everyone in your GameStop got caught slippin.

I was worried that one of the other employees would snipe this from underneath me given its rarity. In a similar situation an employee sniped a copy of Afrika on the PS3 from me, I was pissed lol. Luckily it didn't happen this time.
Why didn't you just ask your friend to purchase it ahead of time and you could of gave him/her the money for it?

We're cool and all, but he is more of a contact/associate than a "friend." I met him one day when I was browsing in his store and we started talking about fighting games, and ended up having like a hour and a half conversation about video games. I told him I was a collector and we exchanged phone numbers.

He has only texted me about games a few times in about six months, and aside from me going in there about once a month we've never hung out so I didn't feel comfortable asking him to do that, especially since he was on the clock.

Ok, I bit the bullet and bought an XBox One console for a free game. I picked Titanfall. I didn't want to pay full retail price for that game anyway.
(I also pre-ordered Halo: Master Chief Collection.)

I've found squat recently at garage sales, so I've turned to flipping doubles and worthwhile modern games I've found to fund my online purchases.

Interesting recently added titles:

NES:
- Pesterminator
- Captain Comic
- Shadow of the Ninja
- Big Bird Hide & Speak

Yesterday I won an auction for:
- Bomberman 64: Second Attack

I've kinda shifted my focus to N64 since I believe NES is pretty much at its peak right now and I've got a lot of the N64 big titles already -- Sculptor's cut and Worms Armageddon are the only $50+ games I don't have yet, and I plan to work my way down the N64 chart to knock off the expensive titles first.  Wish I'd done that with NES games when I started picking them up 12 years ago.

A VGA Box does wonders for the Dreamcast! Welcome to the club :D.

Did you get a Hanzo out of curiosity? Here's a link to one if you've never heard of it. It's great. The scanlines really make everything smooth.

Going Commando is my favorite PS2 R&C.  Most people seem to prefer the third one, Up Your Arsenal, and they are close but to me GC edges it out slightly.

No I wanted to but sold out and wasn't going to wait anymore. I got the Retrobit one which works great. The scanliner is just a filter to make it look like it's on a CRT TV.  Sonic's ultimate genesis collection has an option for that if you want to see how it works

I need to go back and play the Jak 2 and 3 sequels someday.  I loved the original game because it was your traditional 3D Platformer, but then they kinda overhauled it all with guns and Jak is now some some sort of tortured experiment and that kinda killed things for me at the time and I never beat Jak 2.

It would seem that every Argyle really DOES have his day.  :D

I went out to hit sales this morning with 2 main stops in mind - a church sale and a neighborhood that was going to be having a bunch of sales.  The church sale was at 6:00, I got there at 6:15 and they still were a LONG way from being setup.  From what I could tell no one there spoke English, and if they did they had no interest in speaking it to me so I left.  Hit another couple of random sales since the neighborhood sales weren't supposed to start until 7:00, then I headed that way.  First stop I got 4 original Xbox games in questionable condition for $5.  Nothing special, but about average for when I find anything at all around here so I took what I could get.  While I was there these 2 - I'm going to call them "punks", but suffice it to say they were pretty douchey-looking teenagers - came up and asked me if I was getting "the games".  They then asked me who I worked for.  Because that's the only reason I'd be looking for games I suppose?  Anyway, they quickly left.

Hit another few sales, no luck - at one stop a lady told me about a sale in another neighborhood where she saw a bunch of games and I thanked her but kinda doubted I'd head that way, because by the time I got there they'd probably be sold out anyway.  Instead I went one sale down the street and did my usual, asked if they had any old games they were selling.  This younger teen guy asks me what kind, and I tell him it doesn't matter, I collect.  He then leads me inside and says the guy that owns the sale (the kid tells me he's just helping him out) is planning on taking these games up to the retro game store this afternoon - this is the same store I went to last weekend.  I look, and he has all spread out nes, snes & n64 games along with a handful of PS2 games that are nothing special.  But the others - oh man, he doesn't just have old games.  Oh no, he has GOOD old games.  I'm talking about these:

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3914/15224648225_2f6a317e3c_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/pcmiuV)IMG_4154 (https://flic.kr/p/pcmiuV)

I checked to make sure I wasn't drooling, then asked the kid who I needed to talk to to discuss prices.  He takes me to the guy, who is nice enough but seems generally uninterested.  He asks the kid how much he figures the games are worth, and he tells the guy he'd probably get "no more than $10/game" from the retro store.  I only had $35 on me at this point, so I pick out the ones I'm most interested in - FF II & III, Super Metroid, Link to the Past & Donkey Kong Country.  He originally says $40 but agrees to take the $35 I had on me.

I left heading home since I was tapped, but couldn't stop thinking about what I was leaving behind.  I live about 10 mins away from the sale, so when I got home I tell my wife what I found & asks if she cares if I get some more cash out to spend on the others.  She agrees, so I hit the bank & then head back to the sale.  I tell the guy what happened & say I'm interested in buying some of the others.  He leads me back inside and then just kinda leaves me there this time - I tell him I'm gonna pick out everything I'm interested in and then we can haggle out a price and he says it sounds good.  I grab the other 9, which were some I really wanted (the other Zeldas & that Ogre Battle especially) and anything else that looks half-way appealing to me.  He had a FF7 that I was going to get, but when I opened it up I saw the first disk had been resurfaced - very, very poorly - and the disks were mis-matched between those from the original release & those from the GH.  He also had the original Zelda for NES but there was something rattling in it and it wasn't in the best of shape.  I have that anyway, would have just been getting it to trade or sell, so I left it.  Took those 9 out & showed him the stack.  He barely looks at it & just goes "wanna do $40 again?"  I couldn't say yes fast enough! ;D

So for those of you keeping score, that's just over $5/game total.  Win!  8)

FFFUUUUUUUU. . . . .OMG!!! That is a massive score! In terms of both quantity and quality it has been a while since I scored that big. Very nice on those pickups, you pretty much have a quarter of all the must have SNES games right there in the lot, especially a good chunk of the top ten titles :)

Yeah, I'm really happy.  Seriously, my SNES/N64 collection as of this time yesterday was:

SNES - Ranma 1/2 (Super Famicom)

To what you see in that picture.  :)  I asked the guy if he had the N64 itself since I don't have one, and he said he couldn't find it.  Shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of one of those tho.

Honestly, what I find surprising is that it took over 9000 games before you got Wii Sports Resort ???

Hahahahaha!

What do you buy the man who has everything?

The hing everyone else is most likely to have apparently. :)

Win!  8)

Awesome score man! I am genuinely happy for you!

It's obvious that resellers are blanketing my area. Any sale I get to after 9:00am is picked clean.

This week I decided to check my local craigslist the night before. Specifically for sales that mention video games.

Then I specifically targeted stuff either a mile from my house or out in the boonies.

It paid off.

Original Xbox with 2 controllers & av/power hook ups. $5
The catch here is the DVD drive tray won't eject. Luckily I happen to have a spare Xbox DVD drive whose tray works perfectly but the laser is shot... I should have this thing fixed by the end of today!

All the PS3 games were $2 each

Dead Island
Dead Island Riptide
Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

And the steel book collectors case for Dead Island Riptide

It's no Argyle haul. But I think I did ok.

Went to my 2 favorite game stores today and got some stuff I'd been wanting for a while and took advantage of some of the deals they had going on... I went to some garage sales but like always  for me I couldn't find any games at all any of the ones I picked... Also stopped by a few thrift stores and pretty much all they had were sports titles as always! here were my findings. All of these are CIB.

PS2
Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits
Unlimited Saga
Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter
Rebel Raiders Operation Nighthawk

PS1
Tenchu Stealth Assassins

DS
Contra 4
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (Free!)

Xbox 360
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
Lost Planet 2 (Free!)

Xbox
Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30 (This was the only thing I found at Goodwill that wasn't a sports title. It was complete with everything and in good shape overall and it was only $1.50 so I decided to grab it)

Ended up spending around 70 bucks for everything which I was happy with. the free games were a nice little bonus.

Just finished dropping stuff off at the thrift store next to Goodwill. First time I ever donated to this one.

The guy handed me a coupon for 20% off my next purchase in their store.

So I figured "what the heck they usually have something".

Walked out with another original xbox for $10 (console only no games or hookups).

Just tested it and it works perfectly.

So now I have 4 xboxes. My primary, a spare. And two for trade. :)

If anybody is looking for an Original xbox with upgrades (bigger hard drive, xbox media center, etc.) I am open to trade offers. Just check out my wishlist.

Especially if you have a CDX or 3DO for trade. :)

Good pickup. It's the definitive edition.

I pre-ordered that sucker.

Steel book, art book, t-shirt, and poster! It was a hell of a bundle!

Does anyone remember the channel they had on Wii with the teaser trailer?

Shame the content was all streamed. :(

I got a VGA Box for my Dreamcast and an Xploder cheat device to boot certain games into VGA... and play imports
A VGA Box does wonders for the Dreamcast! Welcome to the club :D.

Did you get a Hanzo out of curiosity? Here's a link to one if you've never heard of it. It's great. The scanlines really make everything smooth.

http://www.beharbros.com/#!hanzo/c1gph

I been meaning to pick one of these up.  What does the extra scanliner do?

No I wanted to but sold out and wasn't going to wait anymore. I got the Retrobit one which works great. The scanliner is just a filter to make it look like it's on a CRT TV.  Sonic's ultimate genesis collection has an option for that if you want to see how it works
Like redblaze said, it really helps smooth out some of the jagged edges you get playing on a modern TV that wasn't present in CRT TVs due to the natural scan lines.

Sorry you didn't end up getting a Hanzo, it can definitely be a bit of a wait between batches. I'm waiting for him to get the Kenzei back in stock. I just got an XRGB Mini upscaler a week or two ago and I'm itching to get my Dreamcast hooked up to it  ;D

Nice, welcome to the Neo Geo AES Collecting club, games for this console is stupid expensive, in fact my most ever paid for one game was for this console. ($300) I have about 70 games myself. I'd love to know the story behind you getting this even if it's I saw a lot on ebay and got it all for $500. BTW in case you didn't know, if you got a US system it will play "most" all Japanese carts in English. If it's a Japanese system then US carts will be in Japanese. Or is it a Japanese system with hacked bios and does both? Great pick up no matter how you got it.

Turf the day I find a Neo Geo AES lot at a garage sale, I'll be dancing the whole way home especially if there's games in there I don't own. I'm shocked when a local game store gets something Neo Geo in, I've only seen 3 games ever at my local stores, and a few in the downtown Chicago area.

Very nice! I've come across the HotD 3 game a few times. But never have I run across a light-gun for the original XBox. Do you have one?

And sweet find on those Nintendo Power mags! The Castlevania cover is awesome! I loved the first few covers of the first few issues due to those cool photo covers.

The Zelda one was really cool, too:

Nice, I picked up HotD III for xbox last week as well. Did you know that when you beat it HotD II is unlocked?

I have at least one Gun for the Xbox. Thought I had two but might have lost the other in my move (or more likely I never owned a second one).

This is the one I have.

It's a Mad Catz. It works on both SD and HD CRT tvs. Works great with HotD3 but for some reason HotD2 doesn't recognize it.

The "magazine" on the gun actually accepts xbox memory cards. You insert them in the same way you'd put in a clip. Pretty nifty.

You have good taste, sir.  Kung Fu is one of my favorite NES games.  It's great for 10 min of mind-numbing face punching!

Just got HotD III for XBox and a couple Nintendo Power Mags!

Yeah, sadly I don't Have that gun yet but I'll keep an eye out for one.

I almost bought Star Wars Arcade yesterday. They also have Spider Man Web of Fire sealed in the box at this game shop.

I love Ghost Squad - very short, but designed to be very replay-able.  The thick layer of cheese absolutely makes that game.  :P

Thought I'd point these out to you:

They're just like comic book bags & boards, but made magazine-size. They work a lot better than those binder cover-report things you have your magazines in, (I used to use those, they slide around a lot in them). And you can buy the bags & boards in 100-packs, or individually at your local comic shop for about a quarter-a-piece. They also make acid-free magazine boxes, just like comic boxes.

Here's how some of mine look in them, they're quite handsome:

A simple visit to Craiglist changed my whole day... I was scrolling in CG after work because I was bored. I wasn't planning on spending any money.

I happen to see a 14 Playstation 2 Lot for $20 and I couldn't believe my eye on what it was.
I quickly texted him and I had my doubt that someone had contacted him before me because it was posted an hour ago.
I was wrong and we agree to meet up.
Sadly I had to drive to him and it was 40min drive that became a over an hour because of traffic  :'(. And about 1hour & 30min back.

Everything for $20 dollars, Everything CIB except Suikoden IV & Tactic didnt have their Manuals.

We started talking and etc and he had some other thing he had in his collection and wanted to help me out. He sold most of his collection but he had Dragon Warrior 1-4. I needed 2 & 4.
From the goodness of his heart I got 2 & 4 for basically $15 because I paid $35 for the Ps2 & Dragon Warrior 2 & 4.

Nothing terribly exciting in the wild lately.  I picked up a loose PS1 this morning for a buck.

Been selling some stuff on eBay lately to fund the purchase of stuff I can't find around here easily.  Right now my focus is the higher end N64 games, so in the past week I've bought:

- Bomberman 64 Second Attack
- Mario Party 3
- Kirby 64

I came back from work and found that my sister sent me some cash as a late birthday present (despite the fact that I always tell her to not send me anything, and instead give stuff to our nephews).

So I upped my Humble Bundle 12 purchase to BTA and got Papers Please, Luftrausers, The Bridge and Gone Home.

That's what it sounded like to me when I was checking it out. I just didn't want to pay $80 for it. But if it's selling for only $10, brand-new, then that sounds like the right price to check out this little gimmick.

Oh yeah, it was way too expensive when it first came out. But it seems good to get it for cheap, especially if the wii remote functionality is used well for the game I guess.

How do you constantly find these rare consoles that anyone has barely heard of (Game Master)? Do you live in the middle of New York City or something?

I'm incredibly lucky if I run across a Sega Saturn or Sega CD where I live.

He lives near Chicago.
Ebay

While yes I have found rare consoles in the the wild. A Game Master would be impossible to find, This was an offer accepted on Ebay.

The other day I bought, WCW Mayhem on PS1, Hammerlock Wrestling for SNES, Wave Race for Game Boy, Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout for NES and Popeye: Ijiwaru Majo Seahag no Maki...or in english, Popeye: The Tale of Seahag the Wicked Witch for Super Famicom. That would make it my second SFC game!

I was able to take a trip out of town to a flea market I visited last year some time, where I had passed up on Echo Night Beyond, then regretted it. One year later, I return and there it is still yet, $7.

That is awesome.  Too bad the place doesn't regularly get stuff.  No one else is shopping there. That could've been your secret spot; your honey hole, if you will.

To be specific it was a booth where the seller runs a kind of video store style set up, mostly dvds, but had a games section. The last time I went they had more games, so a few of them had actually sold, but Echo Night was still there, price reduced from 10 to 7.

On a similar note, I'm actually finding that a lot of good "game stores" are tending to be inside of indoor flea markets. I guess it's a more viable option for the dealers than paying full rent and utilities to run a retail store. No sales tax either, so that's a plus.

Just stopping by to say hi and show off my best score ever! (http://i.imgur.com/Lkgb6au.jpg)

Nice pick up!  Please tell you didn't get that at a yard sale for $50

Hey Flea! I've collected AES for quite a while now, this was just an extra system and adding a ton of games for me. Made a deal via a craigslist ad. Paid $1050 for everything. It's a US system.

I spent like a day with one in my shopping cart on thinkgeek debating whether or not to get. I think I got to the 'one click away from buying it' screen like 3 times but I talked myself out of it every time. I'm still so torn on that system.

I'm still trying to find one in stock somewhere for a decent price. :'( I wish I picked one up earlier when they were still in stock for $140 or less.

Well when I was on thinkgeek they had them in stock for 139.99 (plus free shipping) and I just now went back to check and they're out of stock now... I should've just done it then dammit.

Yeah, I got mine from ThinkGeek.

My first very brief impressions, having only played some SNES games on it:  It looks and sounds great, love the save options, different display / sound options, etc.  Only negative so far is the controller, it sucks - but of course it supports the standard system controllers so that's more or less irrelevant.

Yeah, the main selling point for me is the controller compatiblity options. Being able to use an SNES controller to play any game on any of the supported systems is heaven to me.

Vectorman is underratted.  I had a lot of fun with that one.  Final Fight 3 is fun too.  I just need to grab 2 so I can complete that trilogy.
Now, that Ninja for the SMS may be a different story.

Vectorman is awesome. One of my favorite on the Genesis. Final Fight 3 is a nice find, too. Pretty pricey. I've decided to just stick to the Capcom Classics Collection for the Final Fight 2 & 3.

You know those days where you walk into a pawn shop and see a bunch of PS2 games for $1 each? Buy them all, right? Actually, no. But I did snag the best ones of course, not the least of which was Haunting Ground! Yes, I am guilty. I already had this game, but this copy was a much needed upgrade to mine. I just might pass the karma along and sell my old copy locally for a steal. Just because. Also managed Legacy of Kain Defiance, Kingdom Hearts, and RE Outbreak in the snag.

I actually got it for $140 at Solaris Japan thanks to a long-lost gift card I got from a friend a while back. They have the best pricing for that edition compared to other sites on the web, plus I think its a great addition to any collection, considering this is Cave's last bullet hell shump( probably forever as well, since they seem to be busy with Facebook games nowadays.).

Air Raid CIB - a nickel, etc.

Never the less, the content of that haul is quite epic. Fragile Dreams is a great one.

Yeah, would have lost my mind in disbelief if I had found Hyrule Warriors the day it came out for $2 at a thrift store :p

The newer stuff was a splurge at a local game store, but the other stuff was found while hunting at 2nd and Charles. They weren't a couple of bucks, but the PSP limited editions and Einhander were a excellent deal despite what I paid for them.

I pick up collectors/limited editions rarely. I only get them when I find them for a good price or they are very substantial. By substantial I mean more than an art book, soundtrack, and some nicknack. I bought Tales of Xillia CE and Tales of Symphonia CE because they had way more to them, especially the statue.

I haven't played it yet, but I hear it is a solid RPG and one of those few games on the Wii worth picking up that isn't first party Nintendo.

Alright then, it sounds worthy enough to put onto my wii wishlist and hope I can track it down somewhere. Considering how few  good rpgs are on the wii, this is something I gotta pick up while wii prices still are pretty low.

Vacationing out of town (in the middle of nowhere) and I found these at their walmart today:

The sealed copy of Kirby's Return to Dreamland for $50 was a no brainer seeing how it goes for $80 new on Amazon now. They had 2 copies. I was tempted to snag the other copy for trade fodder.

Cross off one more wishlist item! :)

Decent yard sale haul today.  Started out with a bit of a bummer - one sale had advertised nes, snes & n64 games so I had emailed them earlier this week.  They got back to me saying they would get a list up for me but I never heard back.  Sale started @ 7:00 w/ a no early bird request.  I got there about 6:45 and they were setting up, so I started talking to them.  Asked about the games & was told someone came by around 6:00 and they sold them to him. :plain:

On the bright side, they had a Wii bundle w/ Animal Crossing complete & in excellent condition.  I asked if they'd sell AC by itself & they agreed - $1.  :D

Went on to get a box of PS2 stuff for $5 that looked like a better deal than it ended up being - still decent, but I really need to remember to always check the games as the main 2 I wanted were empty. :(  My old tube TV I use for my retro systems has been on the blink, so I found one slightly larger, newer & flat screen for $15.  Also got a better receiver for that TV for $10 at another sale.  Then got 3 360 games for $2 each at another sale - GTAV, CoD: Black Ops & Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Took the stuff from today's haul that I didn't want/need & some other things I wanted to get rid of to the local retro store & got a ton of credit.  Used some of it to snag a Fire Orange N64 (but sadly he didn't have the FO controller so he gave me a Atomic Purple one instead - very tight stick tho :) ).  Also picked up DK64 & Diddy Kong Racing along with a knock-off snes controller.  Probably should have asked if he had a real one, but it will do for now.  He gave me a discount on pretty much everything, and even through in the DK64 manual and a manual for my Majora's Mask.  :)

Oh, forgot the funniest yard sale story.  Got a complete & mint big box copy of X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter for $1.  Same sale also had a copy of WWE '12 for the PS3 marked at $5 - I asked them if they'd take $1 for it as well because I saw it just yesterday selling for $5 at GS and they balked at that, like the wrestling game was some kind of treasure.  But in their words "that other one is just a Windows '98 game."  Lol, ok.  ;) :P

I love it when people esteem something ordinary as being of great value for reasons that make no sense. :) Then again, I was at a sale a couple weeks ago where the folks couldn't agree on whether they wanted $8 per game for their PS3 titles or $2. Ended up working out in my favor because one of them insisted that $2 was the appropriate price because "PS3 is old. PS4 is out now". Had they wanted $8 a game I would have passed them all up.

It is a pretty fun game to play in co-op, especially since you can up the difficulty of the game in extra mode.  The soundtrack for the game is really good as well, especially C-R-O-W-N-E-D.

Very nice pickup! I remember before this game got a reprint it was going for like $70. Thank goodness for the reprint :p.

One of my favorite things is finding old receipts inside games I find in the wild. It is cool seeing where games have been and wondering sometimes how they found their way to you when they did.

Yes, the most memorable time for me with something like that was when I bought a game and Michigan and the receipt showed that the game was originally bought in my hometown of London, Ontario Canada! So somehow it went from London to Michigan and then back to London!

Picked up another game on my Wii wish list. For some reason, I've been having a hard time finding Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. Thankfully, I recently found a complete copy for $5. :D I also picked up Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure (DS), Demon's Souls (PS3), and the Special Edition of Red Dead Redemption for the PS3.

Unfortunately, the warehouse Prinnies at NIS America goofed up some orders recently, so I'm still waiting on my Limited Edition of Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star (PS3) to get shipped. :'(

Henry Hatsworth is really silly game. I found it to be a bit plain to my liking, but the concept is really fun. I mean, becoming a giant invincible robot when you drink a cup of tea?  :P

I like silly games. :) I picked up Henry Hatsworth because it was cheap and I read about it in an old issue of Nintendo Power (this seems to be becoming a trend lately). I'm sure I'll have some fun with it once I get around to playing it. As long as I get a chuckle or two out of it, it'll be worth it.

I really like Henry Hatsworth, my only complaint is that as the game progresses & the difficulty ramps up it gets too hectic trying to juggle both the puzzle game & platforming.

The Emerald ones get pretty pricey but I was able to get this one for under 30 because there was a catch....

The seller stated that the left analog stick didn't work correctly. From reading that I assumed it was loose or something, as a lot of used controllers are. What I normally do with loose left sticks is desolder them and switch them out with the C-Stick since they don't get regular use and are typically more firm.

When I finally plugged it in I found a different issue. When ever I move right the game reacts as if I'm inputting a little bit up as well. Maybe 10 to 15 degrees. The same effect happens when I move to the left; the system acts like I'm also putting pressure down. When I try to move the stick directly down the game system acts like I've only moved the analog stick half-way down. -Same with up. It's almost as if its not calibrated right. I tried unplugging and using the reset controller command to no effect.

I figured that the module was simply bad. So did what I regularly do: changed it with a replacement. Once set up again I found that the controller was still behaving in same manor. I checked the PCB and didn't spot an obvious shorts or bad traces. The few caps that are on the board look good too. Got any ideas on what the issue is? I guess if I really have too I'll swap out the whole board, but I would love to keep the original board if possible.

Oh, I paid waaaaaay to much for 6oz of plastic.  It was less than average, but still a lot for one game.  It didn't hurt too bad, though.  I dropped some of that Retropalooza money on it.  No I can only buy Samson or Flinstones 2.  Not both.

BTW, anyone else notice how pixely that DBZ Budokai 3 pic is? That was pulled from here on VGCollect.

ALL GAMES ARE MINT. Silent Hill will replace my existing GH copy. The Memory Card case was a buck from another seller who also had a few other PS1 games, but they were mostly game show adaptations so I passed. The other device is an EasyCap capture device I found somewhere else for a buck. It's untested, but it was a buck, so why not take a chance, you know?

GREAT DAY.

So there's this family that comes from up North and they bring random games from various generations. They're usually super overpriced... but not this time, oh no. I paid 2.50 per PS1 game.

I've never even seen/heard of that Perfect Weapon game, and I thought I was familiar with pretty much every PS1 game there was!  Nice haul!  :)

Nice pickup. :) Area 51 is popping up all over the place suddenly.

I also have that exact same memory card holder. :) It's pretty convenient.

I have three or four of those around, it just sucks that they can't hold my PS2 cards.

I wasn't even going to pick up Area 51, but... at that price, why not?

I got mine from theflea for a song too. Then picked one up in a lot at a yard sale a month later. :P

I also wish the holder held ps2 cards. I was thinking of making my own insert for it.

I think it might be easy to modify these to accept PS2 cards using a dremel. You'd only have to sand them down a little bit more so they'll accept the slightly less rounded edge of a PS2 card...

Gekido has been on my want list for a long time. Nice score on everything else too.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Spent down most all of my GS points for $25 off of this game. Seemed like a wise decision. I'm not sure why the used value is now back up to retail, but satisfied to have only grazed that bullet.

Apparently it was released so late in the Wii's life that it was a very low production run and there's very little chance of a reprint.

I got lucky and found a copy Saturday night at the Walmart out here in the middle of nowhere for $50. But yeah, Amazon lists it at $80 new $50 used. :P The Walmart still has one more copy if someone want's me to snag it for them. Just $50 +shipping for a new & sealed copy.

Hmmm, that's pretty interesting actually. I got my copy back when it came out around 2011 just because I really wanted to play the game, and I'm glad I got it when it was easy to find in stores. Its a pretty fun game to play through, and I'd recommend it for anyone who wants to get in on this deal. I suspect the price could even jump higher in the future because of the low print run alone.

I picked up my preorder of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS3) today. ;D As a nice surprise, EB Games gave out posters with the game for what I'm guessing was some kind of exclusive preorder bonus. While I was out, I also bought a sealed copy of the God of War Origins Collection (PS3) for $8.

It was $5 + $5 shipping, which was a very good price in my opinion! The loose copies were all $15 when I bought it.  ??? I don't know if there's an English patch, though... I have zero knowledge in term of language patches... is there even such a thing as a patch for a GBC game?  :o

There's no patch for the game as far as I know. You can patch the game cart by replacing the data chips in it, but I have no idea if it's possible in Game Boy games, since I've never seen that be done.

Well there could be patches for GBC games, but they'd be to the ROMs of that game. You'd have to get the patched ROM back onto the cartridge.

One interesting thing I saw Dashv point out about the Retron 5 is that they added IPS patching to games. That means you could have a English patch applied to the game using the console without changing the game cartridge at all. I get more intrigued by their system with each update.

Yeah, a patch in conjunction with the Retron 5 is actually what I was thinking.  :)  Would be extremely cool if there was such a thing.

Did you get the whole thing for $10? If you did, you got a great deal out of it especially for the price and for how good of a strategy game it is. Beware of Lunatic and Lunatic+.

Yes. Was only $24 retail and after using my rewards points, only $10.

Must be my lucky week for Nintendo, Friday I picked up Tales of The Abyss for $10 from a pawn. Yesterday, I picked up Return to Dream Land for $25.

Visiting the in-laws with my wife and they brought out a box of old Atari stuff they had and gave it to me...

The 2600 Vader and Coleco tape deck are dusty and will need cleaning.

The Smurfs game and tapes are mint.

Star Raiders with the pad and overlay, Haunted House, and Phoenix are all mint.

The Atari also included 4 paddles, 2 standard joysticks, and a Power System joystick.

From my Brother in law I purchased a ton of Game Boy stuff he was itching to get rid of:

From what little research I've done it seems that someone is working on an English patch for Devil Children: Black Book (Black specifically, I saw no word on White or Red) but it's still in the early stages.  There are completed English patches for the first 2 super famicom SMT games  tho, which makes picking those up kinda tempting.
