Post by: koemo1 on September 08, 2014, 11:58:35 am

that seems very unlikely it will work with the package on.

I really hope so. If the package design shown on Amazon is the final design, it looks plausible. The base isn't all that far away from the bottom of the package.

Y'know...the guy that keeps all his figurines in the package. :P I'm bad enough as it is! :o
I'm definitely going going to be "that guy". No shame here. I've gotta keep all my stuff in soopr mint conditions. 8) Ugh, I shudder at the thought of opening it and using it as it was intended. :'(

I'll have to make a YouTube vid of me opening mine just for you! ;)
I have my 3 Nintendo figures I picked up from Target recently still in their packaging, but that's mainly because right now it's easier for me to display them that way (I'm running out of space!). And I have 3 Skylanders still in the package...but just because I haven't played that game yet. :)
I've always been an "open it up" type of guy when it comes to just about anything. I still definitely like to keep my stuff minty, but I wanna break it out & use it too! ;D

They're up for preorder on Amazon.ca so far in Canada. I've only bothered to preorder Marth though. I want Earthbound character Amiibos! Do you hear me Nintendo, where's my Ness Amiibo?! >:(
*Edit: I just realized the confusion is probably about the "Nintendo Figures" Argyle was talking about. Those aren't Amiibos, they're just poseable figurine thingies.

Just buy two of every Amiiboo & keep one sealed and open up the other one. Problem solved... now an empty wallet.

Just to note, Zelda is not in the first batch I found out. She's shown off with pretty much everyone else that is releasing, but she isn't available for pre-order. I have Link on pre-order and that's all I'm looking for right now. As the rest of the characters are added, I'll be getting Sheik, Toon Link, and Mega Man. Also Ganondorf since the leaked full roster is likely real.

I'll be getting Samus & Link for sure. The rest will probably depend on sales, etc. I'd *like* them all, but there are a lot of things I'd like to have. :P

I really want Link, Marth and Villager at least. Maybe Wii Fit Trainer too, I think she's an interesting character. My other choices will depend on the figures' use :P

That is a good point - it would be helpful knowing exactly what they will be used for in the games. ;)

I'm probably gonna pick up samus and maybe fox. But I'm still waiting for the other figures to become available for pre-order, including Marth who's listed on amazon but you can't get him yet.

I guess, they just take the dollar price, and replace the word dollar with euro (thats multiplying by 1.2) and then add 2 or 3 euros bullshit costs -.-

Amiibos are going to be the death of me.
I originally had every announced Amiibo preordered, but dropped about half of them in order to afford all the other games that are coming out this month. I'll get them eventually though. I have a weakness for game and anime related statues, as well as Nintendo, so yeah, will be dropping a lot of cash on these over time :p

First batch is out on the 21st with Smash Bros. Second Batch looks to be out at the end of December, third batch is split between January/Februrary or just February for us, not entirely sure. Looks like they are gonna try and get batches out montly so it doesn't take too long to get all the Smash Bros characters out there.

Of course they'll be discontinued eventually, but I'm not worried about trying to find them. Especially since Nintendo seems to be really serious about integrating them heavily with their games this generation.

What they said is that some characters will be somewhat limited to make space for the upcoming ones, so while none are considered a limited release, they won't be making them for a long while. Can probably guarantee most big name characters, but some of those guys who don't have games anymore probably won't be around for too long.

Offical answer
trolltendo
Wait so I was right before.
I'm actually kinda happy about this. I'm not trying to be a jerk towards anyone that wants to keep theirs in the package! :P But for MY sanity, I really don't wanna become a "it must remain sealed in box" guy - I just don't. And if these HAD worked while in the package, I would have been very tempted to stray to the dark side... ;D

Its a way for Nintendo to cash in on us nerds. Forcing you to buy one to play with the other to remain in its holy packaging.

I think they are also a step ahead of those who would just use their 3ds to scan a figure to get the benefits and not pay or those who would just return them for full price.
I'm personally am just happy to be able to get some Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus figures. Though the only ones I have pre-ordered are Marth and Link

I might get a couple extra ones of the Zelda ones in boxes for my collection, but all my figures are getting open. I do it with my toys, because I want them out and posed. I kinda had the idea of keeping stuff boxed a few years back, but I just don't care for that way of collecting enough.

My only real rule is that blister packaging stays sealed everything else gets opened. Even that gets broken at times.

Damn it, I just missed picking up Samus at Toys R Us. I dont think they will sell it to the person that picked it up but I did see him holding it. Its not the first time this Toys R Us has accidentally put out an item before it was supposed to be released. I got all the Easter Skylanders 2 weeks early cause of it.

You're right. I forget they plan on having 3DS compatibility. With a 3DS you could just walk into a store and scan everything. ::)

Yeah, I *might* get a second Shulk to keep sealed just because I'm such a Xenoblade fiend, but that's it.

So, it looks like these things are a hit. The local GameStop sold out of most of the figures. They had folks calling from all over to get a Marth. Link is super popular; and even though they had several, it sold out too.
What do you think about the Amiibo so far?

About $13. I almost bought a few when Toys R Us were doing a "buy 3 for $30" deal, but after seeing reports that the figures weren't as nicely made as the ones showed in the original Nintendo Direct video, I decided to hold off. I'm not a Smash or Mario Kart player, so I don't see much use going into these figures down the line for me. They would be nice for the collection, but I wasn't crazy about the face details for Marth and Link and such.
I would've chosen Samus because she looks the best but there weren't really others I was interested in.

Personally I think these are pretty cool figures. I picked up the Samus and Marth amiibos for $8 each thanks to my pre-order money, and for $13 figures, they look pretty good, especially considering they're mass production models. My Samus one looks great, and my Marth one has a pretty good face compared to what other people have been talking about. I've only used Marth in the game, and he leveled up pretty fast while I was playing with some friends, and by Lv. 20, he actually was playing better than some of my friends in the game. I'm looking forward to getting more of these figures since they are pretty high quality for the price, and there probably around 30-40 of these to collect. Only con is that the packaging is pretty easy to mess up if you try to open it the normal way, but I found methods that can preserve the packaging since I want to display those boxes as well.

The leveling is faster than I thought it would! I only played yesterday evening with mine, and both are lvl 30 now. My Yoshi amiibo kicks my butt big time haha.
