1. Super Smash Bros (WiiU/3DS)
2. Super Smash Bros (N64)
3. Super Smash Bros Melee (GC)
4. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)
Have not played Project M, but hear really good things

Super Smash Bros Melee is my personal favorite.

This may be sacrilege, but I've never cared for the series to the point that I don't own, or care to own any of them. I mean, it's fighting with Nintendo characters, right? I dunno, it's never grabbed me. :-\ The genre isn't the highest on my radar.

Melee all the way, my buddy and I obsessed over it logging tons of hours and setting up our own challenges like beating three computer opponents on the hardest difficulty stuff like that. Brawl and 64 didn't grab me the same way
-
Brawl is the first one I got in the series, but my favorite would have to be:
Multiplayer: Super Smash Bros (Wii U/3DS), followed closely by Melee
Single-Player: Brawl, Melee( may be put to 3rd depending how good the single player mode in 3DS when I get it tomorrow)

Melee!!

That's because you two have horrible taste in games. Go play an RPG. Leave the fun games to us.

No sacrilege in having different tastes :P I personally don't like fighting games apart from Smash Bros, so if you never tried it because you don't like fighting games, maybe it could be worth a try. Or maybe not, but you'll see :P

RPGs are fun too :'(

The Smash game I have the most memories/nostalgia for would be N64, but I would have to say my favorite is Brawl. There is just a lot of content and I have never gotten into the competitive stuff really so I did not notice all of the changes they made that competitive Melee players hated.

Melee > 64 > Brawl
Need more time with the new 3DS (and hopefully soon the WiiU) version, but I'd probably put it between Melee and original right now.
-
I was not impressed with the 3DS version of Smash 4, merely because of the small screen, awkward shoulder button use, and Circle Pad. So I'm going to wait for Smash U before making too much judgement.
However, strangely enough, I have never played the original Smash Bros.

You playing it on older 3DS or XL? I haven't had too many problems with XL, but I also have fairly small hands.

This is a hard one to answer. I mean, aren't they all the same game? They get more characters with every iteration. 3DS gets massive bonus points for the Duck Hunt Dog. His Down+B move brings in the outlaws from Wild Gunman.
Brawl>3DS>Melee>N64
I've played the N64 version the most. I loved that game.
I was too cool for Nintendo when Melee came out.
Brawl was badass
3DS is a fantastic game.
WiiU? I can't eff-ing wait.

I've only ever prominently played the N64 game, so it's certainly my favorite. I poked a little into Melee and Brawl at some point, but I was never really big into them. The new one is okay, but I feel it's hampered on the 3DS version simply due to the small size of the 3DS. Played a few serious rounds of it at a local competition for it and while it plays well, the controls aren't great to me. Hoping the game fairs significantly better on the Wii U, the one I have pre-ordered lol
