Title: Video Game Art Anyone? thread...
Post by: kr2nist on November 29, 2014, 04:48:59 pm
Aside from gaming, my other true passion is art...as I happen to be a cartoonist, illustrator, logo designer, all-around awesome artist extraordinaire.  I've been drawing since right after I was born and it's been something I taught myself how to do, as I had always marveled at the comic strips in the newspapers, the cartoons on T.V., etc.  Over the years, I've managed to broaden my artistic horizons a bit, as I discovered that I could do plenty more than just drawing strictly cartoons...BUT it's the one thing that's the easiest for me to do.  Even though it's nice to try to make some money for what I enjoy doing the most (...yes, I do draw stuff for commissions...), it's my ongoing passion that really keeps me going at it -- and if someone even just tells me that whatever I've drawn for them is awesome or whatever, that right there weighs more than whatever little bit of $$$ that I might happen to make.

With all that being said, here's an example of my handiwork, showing Mario vs. Bowser.....

There's definitely plenty more of these that I'll be sharing, but I would also love to see masterpieces from any of you other creative gamers out there!  :)

I actually went to school to become a 3D game artist. Unfortunately what they don't tell you is there is no such thing as an entry level position in the game industry. You either have to be the best or get lucky in a start-up company. Some of my stuff can be found here (http://www.iankaleta.com/gallery.html). I'm looking to go back to school for electronics.

Back in the day, I originally wanted to go to an art school, buuuuut my parents said that I should know something else besides drawing...so instead I ended up going to school and got my Associate's degree in Computer Info. Systems.  What I've learned about the game industry is it's one of those "you gotta be at the right place at the right time" kind of things, just like how it pretty much is in the art industry.

And no, there's no entry level in these fields....you gotta know your stuff and really have luck on your side.

Nice job you did there with the 3D work, by the way!  My favorite was the cardboard robot guy.  ;D

For some strange reason, I always wondered how Mario would look while getting ready to perform a Hadoken (...or Kamehameha, for you "DragonBall Z" fans out there... ;) ).  And this turned out better than what I thought it would.  ;D

Should I be afraid to ask what else you thought was happening in OPs picture? (I haven't seen it yet, by the way...)  lol!

And I'm glad you're liking my work so far!  ;D

With the recent release of the new "Smash Bros." game for the Wii U, I thought I'd share this drawing that I did a few years ago....

With the various Mario-related sports titles that have surfaced over the years, I think something like this would've been awesome!

(...especially with me being a fan of pro wrestling and all...  ;D)
