Title: What Game Do You Think Is Most Deserving of a Sequel?
Post by: burningdoom on June 25, 2015, 06:29:27 pm
Which video game do you think is most deserving of a sequel that never received one?

My pick has to be Crystalis for the NES. Such an amazing action-RPG for the time. It played similar to Legend of Zelda, but it had more RPG-elements involved such as an experience, and level-up system, as well as a magic-system. It also had better graphics, better music, a larger world, and more towns & NPCs to interact with. I daresay it was better than the original Legend of Zelda.

But unfortunately, SNK decided to focus on fighting games shortly after it's release and we never saw a much-deserved sequel to this NES gem. Seriously one of the best games on the NES and deserves to be in every NES gamer's collection.

What game is your pick for most deserving of a sequel?

Quite simple for me it has to be Conquer of the Crystal Palace (http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/crystalpalace/crystalpalace.htm) would love to see Farron and Zap in a totally new adventure, this game never received the attention that it deserved and it's actually kinda rare, those who hasn't played really doesn't have a clue at what they totally missed  ;)

One of my absolute favorite PC Adventure games was Lucasarts "Full Throttle" which had two possible sequels in the works that never saw the light of day - Payback and Hell on Wheels. I'd love to see a real Full Throttle sequel that keeps the fun and spirit of the original game and remain a true point and click adventure. Hell on Wheels would have been less adventure and more action/fighting which, I think, was going in the wrong direction anyway.

Comix Zone. I feel like so much could be done with modern graphics and the comic book theme. I would just really want them to stick with the 2d comic theme. Not the 3D thing that was going to happen. I wouldn't mind seeing something from left field though like a Clash at Demonhead sequel.

There are so many games I'd love to see sequels to but I think the one I'd most like to see is Conker's Bad Fur Day, and no, I don't count Conker: Live & Reloaded or Conker's Reunion because one is a remake and the other is a spin-off at best.

A revisit to Comix Zone would be awesome. Hell, theres a lot of cool IPs Sega could resurrect. Unfortunatly they seem to be content with churning out mediocre Sonic titles.

My default answer is usually "Dark Cloud 3", but since you said games that never received a sequel I take that to mean IPs which got one game & that's it. Makes it a more interesting question too, honestly. :)

So I'll have to say Chaos Legion. It was a very misunderstood game - people called it a Devil May Cry knock-off and then criticized it for poor gameplay when they tried to play it like DMC. But it wasn't, and once you got that into your head & learned the mechanics it was an amazing game. One of my favorite "hidden gems" of the PS2 library.

Hmmmm. Most of my favorite games did get at least one sequel, for better or worse.

Ghost Trick came to mind right away. Elite Beat Agents seems like a cop-out, because I imported the two Osu games. Solatorobo or The World Ends With You I guess. (Yes, I like DS games.)

I would love to see a sequel to XIII. I absolutely loved that game and would like to see what happens after the twist ending of the first.

Since FFVII is getting its remake and Shenmue is curently funding its third episode, one can dream !

Why not a remake (or even better a sequel!) of my favorite RPG (https://imgur.com/a/TeQyk) ? ?  :'(

This game needs to be re-released somehow. I refuse to pay $300+ for it despite hearing very good things about it. Would purchase it in a heartbeat if it was released on PSN or Steam. I heard the source code for this game is gone so this will probably never happen.

Very good call!

Another one I can't believe I didn't think of - LOVED this game!

If we're going to change the nature of the question from games that never had sequels to any game that should have sequels I gotta go with Road Rash. Why that series died I'll never understand.

I think Ristar was never given a chance to be fleshed out with a sequel or two.  Granted, you could say the same about a lot of Sega's IPs.  Nights, Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio, Samba de Amigo, Billy Hatcher, Streets of Rage, Chu Chu Rocket, PuyoPop to name a few.

What about a more recent example: Rhythm Thief, another charming rhythm game from Sega for the 3DS, with a watered down port for iOS.  Shun Nakamura said himself that he has ideas for a Wii U sequel, but of course Sonic spin dashed those ideals straight into the depths of hell, where my hopes and dreams for a sequel went boom.

Shenmue proved that there is still love for at least some of there older IPs, especially anything Dreamcast, whether Sega is involved or not.  I just wish some of these characters could escape from the 'Sonic and All-Stars' conga and making brief cameos, Nights and Ristar aren't even bloody playable in all-star racing.  it's the same crap with Klonoa.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer (N64)

I liked the high speeds. Simple upgrade and playing model. It was a fun game, had a clear progression path (but a fun one) and the difficulty curve was nice. With modern graphics it would be really nice. Maybe even VR if you want to be sick.

That would be great!  Episode I: Racer was one of the few nice things we got from the Phantom Menace  ;D
Apparently there was a sequel on the PS2, but I have not played it so I have no idea if it is any good.

Star Wars Racer Revenge is on PS2.  It's a pretty good sequel, though harder than the original.

The Magic of Scheherazade was amazingly unique for having action and turn based RPG elements. The cartoony Arabian theme was awesome too. I've always dreamed of a sequel.

I'm going to go with Legend of Dragoon.

Ahhh I miss that game!  ;D And how they would say they moves they pulled off after each addition.

BURNINGGGG RUSH!

BLAZING... DYNAMO!

ROD TYPHOON...?? Haha good times

In all seriousness, though probably not the most deserving of a sequel since there were 5 already haha, I would love to see another Mega Man Battle Network game. I just thought they could have done so much more with the series :( Maybe I should consider playing the Star Force games...

Ufouria: The Saga (NES)
Wurm: Journey to the Center of the Earth (NES)
Galerians (PS1) and Galerians:ASH (PS2)

I'm sure there tons of games far more deserving than this, but Pokemon Snap.  I know it's a quirky little game with no action, it's on rails, and it's just a glorified photography game, but I'm dumbfounded that Nintendo has not created Pokemon Snap 2 yet.  It would've worked on the Wii, and now that the Wii U is out, it has a controller that can be used like an actual camera.  I can't really think of a better game to utilize the pad like this, except for Fatal Frame, which also uses a camera lol  The gamepad is just so perfect for this.  I've heard Miyamoto say that they just couldn't push the gamepad right, which is why the sales were hurt, but could you imagine a full on Pokemon Snap 2 with hundreds of Pokemon in it within the launch window or by the time the PS4 released?  A real good Pokemon game for the Wii U could've pushed units I think.  It can't save the Wii U, but it would've been a nice boost for sure lol
