Title: Summer Stories/Trips 2015
Post by: telly on June 29, 2015, 07:57:45 am
Now that the summer is about a month in (sad :( ), are there any cool things that you've done or trips have you've been on?

I just went on vacation to Myrtle Beach... 14 hour drive ugh. The beach was really great and the water was superrr warm which I was not expecting because I used to go to the Atlantic in Cape Cod or NH, but it was very nice. If only the water wasn't salty  :o

I also did a bridge walk in WV which was fun, it's under the New River Gorge Bridge, which is about 850 feet above the ground. We had hook ups and rappelling stuff, but it wasn't too scary. We took pictures and I'll try to find one of me maybe. The scenery was really nice. I miss the mountains haha

That sounds pretty sweet! I've always wanted to go to CO to go skiing or something. Have you always lived in Colorado or did you move there from somewhere else?

I'm from Colorado too! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to much because of work, but hopefully I'll get to do some mountain biking and some other fun stuff.

I did all my partying in my late teens/early 20s. I might pick up a 6 pack of IPA on tuesday and hang out and watch the ANgel game.

30+ degrees in England, Celsius, not Fahrenheit. Too hot to leave the house, we're all sat trembling with fear, drinking what we can of our tea, putting factor 9000 sun-cream on, having barbecues. Me? I'm inside, playing Serious Sam and Crash Bandicoot

A friend of ours turned 50 in the middle of June, so to celebrate around 20 of us went to lovely Key West, FL. My partner and I stayed at the Casa Marina and the rest of the crew stayed at the various guest houses on Fleming Street. The trip was an absolute blast. Here are some of the highlights.

The Blue Q: We spent nearly the entire day on a boat that took us to an amazing spot for snorkeling. The crew provided us with drinks, lunch and ensured we were all comfortable during the voyage. After the snorkeling, we went to a sandbar where we splashed about some more and took some fun pics. As we were leaving, we saw dolphins playing. It was a perfect day. And to top it off...

Sunset Dinner at the Westin: ...we had the perfect evening. We took a trolley to the Westin for a catered birthday celebration. Not only was there an open bar, the food was impeccable. Everyone toasted our friend to turning the big five-zero.

Nomadic SUP: For the first time, I went paddle boarding. Being the klutz that I am, I'm surprised I only fell once. Our guide took us to secluded mangroves and we saw some wildlife and were given a great tour that was away from the nonsense and noise of Duval Street. I highly recommend everyone doing this if they ever get a chance.

Those excursions aside, the rest of the trip was great. Friends from Cleveland met up with us, so that was an awesome reunion. We ate and drank in great restaurants and usually were able to sit outside since the weather was perfect.  We checked out a ton of adorable bars and coffee shops. And yes...we did check out Ernest Hemingway's house.

It was a perfect vacation, and just the right length. I'm already excited about the prospect of going back again.

It was a blast. I can't wait to go back to try new things and do the Nomadic SUP excursion again. This was my second time in Key West. The first time was when I was 21, but I was on a cruise so we didn't get to really "explore" the city.

I just got back from San Antonio.  That is a fun town.

The Boy is huge into bats.  So we took a trip to look at bats.

First stop was Austin.  The Congress St Bridge has a colony of bats living underneath it.  They fly out at dusk.  It's a cool sight.

Then we went on to San Antonio/New Bruanfels.  Sea World, Six Flags, Schlitterbahn, River Walk/Alamo and other stuff around town.  It was fun.  That's a badass town.

The last day we went to the main event of the trip, Bracken Cave.  It's the home to the largest gathering of mammals on Planet Earth.  There are approximately 20 million Mexican Free-Tail Bats in this sinkhole.  We watched these critters fly out at dusk. Apparently, it takes around 3 hours for this cave to empty.  We didn't stick around that long.

We had a blast.  San Antonio is a fun place to visit.

Went to Florida for 14 days on June 19th.  Stayed at a really sweet resort in Orlando.  We went to SeaWorld, Aquatica (SeaWorld's theme park), Disney Village, Planet Hollywood and some other local things.  I've never been to Florida so it was quite fun, though hot as hades a couple of those days!

For the last three days, we went to Bradenton over on the west side of the state.  Crossed the Sunshine Skyway Bridge which is friggin' awesome and went to the beach a couple of times.  We spent the rest of the time with my wife's aunt & uncle who live there.

On our down time, I visited several used game stores, outlet malls, flea markets, etc.  Spent lots of time in the pools at the resort and went out on paddle boats in the lake.  Every night, out past the lake Disney's fireworks shot off.  We were literally within five miles of SeaWorld, Disney World, Universal Studios and all the other attractions.

Our final day there, we went to Myaaka River State Park.  It's beautiful to behold.  But the real attraction for me was the hundreds of alligators everywhere.  Got some really cool pics of them.

I'm usually the type of person that does work on my vacation time and I don't like being away from home overnight, let alone for weeks on end.  But I found myself very sad to leave.  Not because of the resort or attractions, but because our aunt & uncle are some of the kindest people in the world and we miss them.   :'(

Sounds like you had a fun time!  :D Did you find any good stuff at the stores you went to?

Sounds like you had a fun time!  :D Did you find any good stuff at the stores you went to?

Found a few games here & there that I added to my collection.  The stores in Florida are like just about anywhere else.  Different inventory, but they all think regardless of condition or completeness the "high end" games like Legend of Dragoon or MediEvil are the same price.   >:(  With that being said, I picked up:

PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate for PSP (complete)
Prince of Persia the Fallen King for DS (complete & mint)
Yakuza for PS2 (complete)
The Getaway Black Monday for PS2 (complete)
Dino Crisis for PS1 (complete with demo disc)
Final Doom for PS1 (complete)
Driver for PS1 (complete, greatest hits version)
Pac-Man World 20th Anniversary for PS1 (complete, greatest hits version)
Fear Effect 2 Retro Helix for PS1 (complete)
Urban Chaos for PS1 (complete)
Point Blank for PS1 (complete)
Point Blank 3 for PS1 (complete)
Spider the Game for PS1 (complete)

There is a couple missing that I can't remember off the top of my head.  The most I paid was for Fear Effect 2 and it was $20.  Final Doom is perfect except a few scuffs on the jewel case and I got it for $14.  Dino Crisis complete with the Resident Evil 3 Nemesis demo disc was $10.  Stuff like Urban Chaos, PoP and the Point Blank games I got for under $2 each.  The hunt was fun.   ;D

Florida itself was beautiful.  Didn't want to come home.   :'(

I forgot to mention a trip. Every 4th of July, we head to my partner's mom's house in South Carolina. She lives on Lake Greenwood, so the majority of the time there is usually spent on the water.

This time was no exception. The two of us, our two of our dear friends along with our dog packed up the car and made the drive from Nashville to Greenwood. It was about 7 hours of drive time, but it didn't feel that bad thanks to being surrounded by such great company. A friend of mine from Ohio also met up with us that same night.

The majority of the trip was spent on the lake swimming or boating. There was tons and -TONS- of food, of course. When you come to SC, you need to be ready to eat. All of the food, all of the booze and all of the people made for another great trip. Highlights include:

*Watching fireworks on the lake, whilst in the boat
*Swimming in new parts of the lake
*Catching up on reading during downtime
*Seeing some darling friends that I don't get to see often

In comparison to my Key West trip, this was the polar opposite. While in KW, it was non-stop action. In SC, it was non-stop relaxation.

Took some time off work and drove out to San Diego for Comic-Con. Seemed quite a bit crazier than last year. Still a lot of fun, but I'll probably sit next year out and see if I can get press passes again for the following year.

I returned from another fun trip to my hometown of Cleveland, OH. I stayed with family, saw old friends, made new friends, and had a grand ole' time video game hunting. I'll be back in November for more fun when one of my best friends gets married. Hopefully by then we'll have a "Fall Stories/Trips 2015" topic.

Your timing in bumping it is excellent though, Kash, since I just got back from vacation :) You guys all seem pretty busy, but I believe that being busy is more fun than lying around doing nothing.

As for me, I visited my parents for 2 days. They were at work by day, so I took the opportunity for some lone work. Having read a lot about the KonMari decluttering method recently (I'm kind of an organizing maniac haha), I gathered all my belongings that I had stored in my bedroom there and started sorting it out. In just my old bedroom, I could throw away 3 garbage bags, recycled 3, donated 3 garbage bags of clothes, and kept 1 bag of things to sell. That's 10 big garbage bags, only out of a small bedroom! I couldn't believe how much I had in there  :o The part of my collection that was stored away in piles of boxes is now displayed on shelves and stored neatly in drawers.

That's probably not the idea of "fun vacation" that most people have, but I really had a fun time going through everything, I swear  :P

Yes, gotta love all those silly things that you'd forgotten about! I did find a hockey puck signed by the captain of my high school Midget AAA team, and the guy is now in the Montreal Canadiens. That was a pretty cool thing to find again!
