Summon Night 5 for the PSP/PSVita is getting a one time physical release in advance of its digital debut, and we can finally reveal the full package you'll receive. It will include the game case with multi-sided full-color insert, game UMD with full-color label, full-color game manual, one of two randomly inserted gigantic 14" x 19" posters, a serial numbered hologram, a digital download code to download the game from PSN free, and the last, and biggest addition: the FULL ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK for the game, featuring all 37 music selections from the Japanese release of the OST in a full-size CD case with full-color inserts. Yep, back up. Read that again. You're welcome. And, thank YOU, too. YOUR SUPPORT made this inclusion possible! All that's only going to cost $41.99 + $5 shipping anywhere in the US. International shipping will be more.
Sweet! so the email sub we had to do was a count on how many people wanted to buy it or to reserve a chance to buy it?
The randomly inserted posters will drive collectors crazy... :'(
You're receiving this notice because you signed up for our Summon Night 5 LE PSP poll and indicated you wanted to purchase one or more copies of the presale-only physical+digital LE edition.
We wanted to let you know that presales of the game will be live on www.gaijinworks.com starting today at 5:30PM PST and will remain open until the next full moon (at the end of August). After this period closes, we will gently and lovingly manufacture only enough product to cover the amount ordered, and then the game will only be available digitally on PSN until our contract runs out, or the apocalypse/rapture arrives, whichever comes first. Check the website main page at 5:30PM PST for the order link!
Thanks for your support!

It's already driving me crazy knowing I'll be missing a version by only buying one. :'(

Leave it sealed & tell yourself you got a copy where both posters were accidentally included. Problem solved! :D

That's a tempting solution. If I did that I'd probably finally get around to opening and playing the Japanese copy of the game I've had for months. :P

Don't forget that they give you a digital copy as well, so you're basically buying two copies of the game for one price :D It's nice to know that I can leave it unopened if I want but can still play the game whenever.
Really glad to see this. It's been years since any Summon Night games hit the US!

For some reason this never occurred to me. I had just assumed that the download code would be included in the game, but I guess it wouldn't since the digital version releases later than the physical release. Good idea. :)

Yep, they actually made a point to say that the code will be outside of the game so if you want to keep the game sealed you can still play it. :) Heck, wish they had done that with CoH2G - I still haven't opened that one.

Is that what they did with CoH2G? I guess I wasn't paying attention. I know with CoH2 they emailed the PSN code separately from the physical mailing (I think because the physical version wasn't coming out until after the PSN launch).
Sorry, I wasn't clear - they didn't include a code at all for CoH2G. :(

Not to mention it's the first time a game from the main series has been localized into English.
Gaijinworks are doing a twitter poll on UMD variants to see what fans want to see produced:

Summon Night 5 UMD Voting!
For the first time, we're going to bring YOU into the process of choosing the disc art variants for one of our game releases. We'll tweet you two possible UMD builds at a time on our official Twitter (@GAIJINWORKS), and whichever design gets the most retweets wins. Throughout the rest of the month, we'll be putting up new versions on Twitter for you to vote on with your retweets. The UMDs with the most retweets at the end of the month will make it into production as the actual disc art we use! We can't tell you how many variants will be produced, but longtime fans will be able to have a pretty good guess - ask them on Twitter, too! Here are the two up for Twitter retweet voting right now:
Round 2 of the UMD designs are up now. As of now, they're pretty close to even in terms of retweets. The one on the right is winning by two at the moment.

FYI, Summon Night 6 was just announced to be in development for the PS4 & Vita. No word on a localization yet, but it seems to me that most PS4 JRPGs are getting localized these days so the odds are probably pretty good. :)
We finally have a revised image in QA to get these UMDs made! We spent a long time testing trying to get the Yeng-Hua bug to happen and could not do it after weeks of trying and fans sending in saves to maybe help it occur for us. So in the interests of getting the UMD version shipped, we just zipped up the version with the most common bug fixed (Acquire Skill), as well as a secondary bug fixed that only happened in one place. I also made sure all fan-submitted text corrections verified and updated in this new version. Now we are on the way to getting the UMD made again so we can get the pallets of packaging and soundtracks fulfilled and out of our warehouse and into your homes!
It's been a trying month for us, since work couldn't stop on CoH3, the European SN5 release process, and other games we're working on, which is why I haven't been around for weeks. EVERYONE in our little group has been doing this in addition to all the other stuff that needed to be done for other games, so we're a little frazzled. But a heartfelt thanks for the patience as we worked through this. I'll be sending out an email to everyone who ordered the physical+digital to update the status. If this disc image gets through QA with no problems, I expect we'll see it on PSN about the middle of February, and we should have the UMDs around the end of Feb to ship out.
I was just having a conversation with a guy about how he thought it was the last PSP game and the system is officially dead and I was telling him that it hasn't released its physical version yet.

They haven't said anything on their main website yet afaik, but aren't Gaijinworks also planning a physical release for Class of Heroes 3?
It's been a long road, but the master UMD manufacturing samples for the physical version of Summon Night 5 have finally come in from overseas, meaning we're just a few weeks away from finally shipping the physical version. We want to thank you all for your patience in this process. We destroyed the original UMD masters that contained the Acquire Skill bug and created a new build that fixed not only that, but another minor bug and some text errors, so we could release the most error-free physical version possible.
I saw someone tweet today that they received their copy, so keep an eye on your inbox! They hadn't received an email or anything, so it may just "show up."Woooo I guess I'll actually check the mail today.
If I'm not mistaken, there's a bit of a surprise with the shipment, so just a heads up :)
When you get it, if you want to remove the shipping label and sealing tape as safely as possible and preserve the shipping box, use a hair dryer to heat the label or tape up and gently pull from a corner as you continue to heat the label or tape. It should come off easily. If it's resistant, try starting from another corner. Once you have it off, you can remove the remaining sticky residue with goo gone (not goof off!).
I wasn't happy when I heard that the packing stickers were attached directly to the box, but Gaijinworks gives this advice:QuoteWhen you get it, if you want to remove the shipping label and sealing tape as safely as possible and preserve the shipping box, use a hair dryer to heat the label or tape up and gently pull from a corner as you continue to heat the label or tape. They ship them just in those fancy boxes? >:( I can't say I like that too much either. It'll probably be in even worse shape for me once it makes it through customs. :-\
Ok, I uploaded pics of the box, but I realize that not everyone may recognize the box as being part of the "game."
What do you all think? I also adjusted the name of the item to indicate that it was more of a bundle of items, but I thought I'd see how you all felt.
Maybe it should be called Limited Edition? But only VideoGamesPlus uses that term, as far as I know...
Additionally, I ordered two copies, so both my copies came in the same box. In that regard, I'd probably personally prefer to have the soundrack and actual game be listed as single items as well in addition to this "boxed" version.
Ah, can't decide!
I have scans of everything (except for opening up the games and soundtracks themselves), so I'm not worried about having to rescan anything.
Since the box is just what they're all shipped in and you get one per order and not one per copy of the game, I don't think it should be considered part of the set. Of course, the box is certainly collectible, so it does have a place in our database, I just think it should be part of a separate listing.
I do think that the soundtrack should be part of the same listing as the game though, since everyone got one with every copy they ordered and it wasn't an optional add-on item. We have plenty of soundracks in our database listed separately from the games that were sold with already anyways so I don't think my opinion on that really matters in the end.

Ah, I like the idea of the box as being a separate collectible item. Maybe like swag or something.
I'm fine with the soundtrack being bundled together with the game as I totally agree with your logic (the soundtrack itself says that it's not for re-sale and was to come with the game only). Do you think the item title should reflect it? Previously it was just "Summon Night 5" which feels so lacking to me, but sometimes that's how those things go.
However, because it is the only physical North American release of the game, simply using Summon Night 5 for the database entry shouldn't cause any confusion.

Right, so there won't be any other physical versions that people would confuse this with. The only confusion would be if someone purchased this from a reseller but only got the game or soundtrack by itself, but that's no different from how other bundles have been broken up.
Cool, thanks for talking this out with me! If other folks have any thoughts, feel free to chime in!
Has anyone had a chance to play it yet?

For now, all I can say is that the game looks nice. It sounds nice (save for that opening theme...yikes).

I'm pretty sure if you hold the triangle button while the game starts up you'll get the proper Japanese OP. It's something like that anyways. Much better than the English version, IMO.
