Title: Favorite XBL Indie Games
Post by: jcalder8 on February 23, 2012, 06:18:01 pm
I'm always overwhelmed by the options with Indie games on XBL.

I have bought a few that I'm a fan of:
NLL 11
BloodyCheckers
Aban Hawkins & the 1000 SPIKES

So what are some other ones that I am missing out on?

Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII are pretty fun classic-style RPGs.

Just found this one: Magic Racing GP 2
http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Magic-Racing-GP-2/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550a16 (http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Magic-Racing-GP-2/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550a16)

It's like a modern Super Sprint and for only a buck it's a steal!

Don't have a 360, personally, but I've heard lots of love for both Bastion and Fez (think they're both exclusive to XBLA).

On the PS3, Journey, & Flower are both pretty cool (& by the same company).

I also liked Costume Quest & Stacking on the PS3 (...but those 2 may well be available on both consoles).

Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement was (imo) pretty "meh" as was Faery: Legends of Avalon.

2 games that I've bought & downloaded but haven't got around to yet (that both look pretty good) are the 1st Record of Agarest War game (which also has a "disc" version on the 360...on PSN, it was download-only) and Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls (which would only be enjoyable to those of you who like older-school style dungeon-crawlers).

Keep in mind that I'm probably missing a ton of the non-rpg ones since they're pretty much all I play...

Costume Quest, Stacking, and Bastion are all on Steam (not sure about any of the others), so they've been easy to pick up on sales. I connected a gamepad to my PC when I played Costume Quest and it automatically switched all the prompts to the Xbox controls. I love it when games do that.

Did you also play Bastion & Stacking?

If so, what did you think about them?

I know that Bastion has some Awesome! music in it :)

I also suggest I Maed A Game with Zombies In It.  Best $1 I've ever spent on a new game.

I got Bastion the last time it was on sale but I haven't played it yet.

Stacking I bought when it first came out on the XBLA and I loved it. But I'm biased...anything with the words "Tim Schafer" or "Double Fine" and I'm pretty much immediately in love.

Yeah, I'm also partial to Tim Schafer/Double-Fine myself :)

I bought Fez this past weekend and it's terrific. Very funny dialogue and the gameplay is really cleverly done.

Let's see, other than the ones already mentioned, I enjoyed...

Shoot 1UP - A fun little shump that has a cool little mechanic in being able to control all of your 1up ships... at the same time.
Epic Dungeon - A real-time action rougelike.  Fast-paced and easy to pick up and play.
Wizorb - A block breaking game... but hold up!  It's actually really unique and fun.  Also on Steam.
Sequence - A rhythm RPG.  No, seriously.  Also on Steam.
Tempura of the Dead - It's... hard to explain.  Head juggling... platformer... with a slick retro graphics style?  That'll have to do.
Laser Cat - Exploration like VVVVVV, but not really hard and there's a cat.  What's not to love?
Techno Kitten Adventure! - (The sequel, not the original) ...It has kittens.  Also, the music is hardcore and the look on your friends' faces when you boot it up and play it is priceless.
Protect Me, Knight! - The ultimate party arcade style game.  My highest recommendation of the list.

...I spend a little too much time looking at XBLIGames.  xp

I did! lol

I lucked out and bought it last year when it was on sale at Best Buy for $5... Insane sale price!

I forgot to mention Sequence!

I've heard nothing but great things about it from all of my rpg-fan friends that have played it!

Btw - Which Agarest game are you playing & what do you think of it?

@disgaeniac - Yeah, it really is great fun.  There's a couple flaws, but it's worth the small sum you pay for it, whether it's on Steam or on the Xbox.

As for your other question... well, I'll send you a PM.  :)

I am going to have to check out Sequence and Protect Me, Knight!

Great list!
