Sorry if this has been asked before but does anybody know what the biggest game series to collect is, and, by extension, is there anyone who has the collection complete? I'd guess it's something like Final Fantasy or Mario but I could be wrong.

-
Well, in the recently bought thread i saw a nice collection of Star Wars games.

-
Yeah, I think Star Wars is probably the winner. Sooooo many PC games, and a ton of console games.

The Musou games (Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors) is a pretty hefty series to collect for, too. 8 Dynasty Warriors games. And then each of those have both an "Xtreme Legends" series and an "Empires" series. Xtreme Legends started with DW 3, and Empires started with DW 4. Then you have the 4 Samurai Warriors games, and one of those had Xtreme Legends spin-off, too, as well as a "State of War" spin-off. There's also the Orochi Warriors series, which there are 3 of, which combine the characters of the two game series into one. And finally there's Hyrule Warriors.

So by my count that's 29 Musou games.
-
How do we count Mario? Just the platforming games? Or every game he's been in? Because that would come to a big number, too, if we counted them all.

-
I think Mario would be the largest collection if you counted all the spinoff titles such as Golf, Strikers, Paint, etc.  There are a lot of Final Fantasy games out there, over 50 easily.

There are a ton of Star Wars games across PC and consoles.  I would say Star Wars probably is the largest with individual titles and not counting multiplatform versions separately.

 ;D

I think a lot depends on what you consider a "game" in the series.  If you include all of the ports as individual games in a series than there are a lot to collect.  For example a year or so ago I went through and added a lot of the Wizardry ports to VGCollect, http://vgcollect.com/search/wizardry/.  There are now 134 entries in the database, and I know of some that I missed already.  There is a similar trend with Pac-Man that got released on nearly every system possible back in the day.
If you don't include all of the different ports, remakes, etc. then there are only 35 distinct releases of Wizardry.

You'd have to have all 140 versions to have a complete collection...
-
				im going with mega-man

There are currently over 100 titles in the Mega Man series, according to Capcom's official sales data (as of December 31, 2014 there are 131).
pulled that off of wiki so take it as you want but I recommend that you go and take a look at the list of games.. its pretty impressive.

but yeah if you going with serieses with the same main character not just same/similar gameplay then it definitely has to be Mario. he has been whored off to just about every genera I can think of... (not that im complaining about it though as they are all really fun games.. except the educational ones..)

So many special editions for final fanatasy to many for my taste.

Sims has to many extensions etc guess that's the number one.

More if you want to include package variations and releases in other countries. ;)
-
I think if you are just counting individual titles regardless of how many versions appear on multiple consoles, Star Wars is right up there.

-
The Harvest Moon series just has a lot. It's not super expensive until you get to the 64 and SNES.

It would roughly double since the games are usually only released in North America and Europe.
