What does your collection specalise in? ( If it does specialise in anything. ) Maybe a certain series? Style? Retro? Modern? Pc games? Shoot em ups? FPS? (oh god) JRPG?
I personally think my collection specialism is in japanese style games, or sega?
-
PS1 RPGs, Dragon quest, and all things PS4/Sega master system.
-
Nothing in particular. :) Only criteria is it has to be a game I have a decent interest in playing.
-
Nothing really... i guess i do tend to lean more towards first party Nintendo games or Rpg's, but i tend to get what game i know im interested in or would play.... i avoid most modern shooters or big western games... they just don't interest me. >_<
-
Rpg's, shoot em ups, Good arcade platformers, beat em ups, side strolling shooters and 2d fighting games especially in the retro department.
Not a big fan of xbox, xbox 360 and xbox one, ps3 and 4 wich I pretty much have no games for.
-
While I collect pretty much anything video game I do have my limits.
- I don't collect PC / MAC games (every now and again I'll hold on to one just because I love the series but it's rare.)
- I try and stay away from arcade and pinball machines BUT if I find say a classic Donkey Kong or Pac-Man cheap I will break. :P
There are others I may break on if I happen to stumble upon them at a garage sale for dirt cheap and I can't pass it up. I just don't go
outta my way to buy large cabinets just due to limited space.
- Then there's items I only collect if I happen to find them cheap at a garage sale, like Strategy Guides, Tiger LCD hand helds, Video game
toys etc.
I do have my favorites though, I love to play and collect RPGs, Survival Horror, Classic Platformer's and Shooters but games like Sports, Children games and Gimmicky games like Guitar Hero & Rock Band are the ones I usually only test to see they work and shelf. These are the games I only buy when I see them so cheap from a garage sale (or clearance) that I'll buy them.
-
I usually tend to pick up Survival Horror and PS2 games in general. While I own a lot of Xbox 360 games which are mostly FPS's, I'm not very interested in that at all.
-
There are some series that I'm trying to complete my collections for, though I'm not sure if any of them are quite complete enough to say I specialize in them.
I'm always looking for Fire Emblem stuff. I've got 3 North American releases left to get, and I'd like to get them soon before prices get even worse than they already are with all the new fans introduced to the series by Fates.
Other series I'm always looking out for include Disgaea, Hatsune Miku's games (or vocaloid games in general), Mega Man stuff, the Neptunia franchise (though I've fallen behind since Re;Birth2), Puyo Puyo, and maybe a couple others.
-
My collection specializes in sitting on shelves.
-
Correct spelling.
-
Most of what I collect is from the 5th and 6th gen consoles as I enjoyed and remember that 10-year span of gaming the best. I love the crude 3d graphics on many of the games, some of the best RPGs ever made came from that era, and it seems to be the last period of time when the integrity of a game was more important that how marketable it was. I definitely have a lot of 7th gen games, as well as 16-bit era stuff, but in terms of owning and collecting, 5th and 6th gen cannot be beat.
-
Baseball, Hockey, Transformers and Sega are my primary collections. PC Games are also a get for me because that is my #1 platform.
-
Those titles that used to play when I was a kid and some others that I started to like them as an adult, that means that I do purchase games for playing with them and not just collecting, my first priority without a doubt is the NES (cause am old) about the genre practically I play everything except first person titles cause they gave a headache and start to feel dizzy every time, the damn sick motion haven't allowed me to play amazing games like Left for Dead or Doom 3 but if I have to select genres Fighting games and Survival Horror are my priority for the latest consoles, for the old ones really don't care cause I can play all of them without a problem.
-
Mainly RPGs. But, I have other approved franchises that make me smile that I collect for. These include Mega Man, Kirby and Castlevania. Throw in a few unique rhythm games and fighting games for good measure, and that's what my collection specializes in.
-
working games.
-
working games.
:P
I tend to collect series. There isn't one specific genre that I stick to. I play fighters, racing, action, adventure, RPG, etc. Pretty much anything except the typical Madden's. I'm also not really a fan of rhythm games.
Series I have collections of include Star Wars, Final Fantasy, Tekken and Call of Duty.
-
I just go for what I want to play. I'm not trying to fill shelves or have a complete console collection or anything.
-
I'd like to think it specializes in games that don't suck, but given that I have a few duds in there, I'd say I'm mainly focused on RPGs, fighting games, survival horror, and shmups. Most of the emphasis has been on PS1 and PS2, but that's changing bit by bit to be more PC-centric.

INSEKTMUTE
Long time, no see, buddy :)
Usually my collection leans towards JRPGS, especially older ones from my childhood from PS1, PS2, some Gamecube and some GBA. Thanks to Persona, I've built up a collection of Atlus titles and have been collecting for some other niche publishers like XSEED, Natsume, and NIS. I'm also a fan of rhythm, puzzle, and adventure games as well.
The first game system I ever bought for myself was the Nintendo DS Lite, so I still buy items for that library and the subsequent handheld models (except for the DSi). I think my bf and I tried to count out how many handhelds we had for Nintendo, and for the DS/3DS alone, it was at least 7... ::)
-
Aside from the games listed in my signature, which are the main focus of my collection right now, I tend to buy a lot of console horror games. I've also started collections for the Team Ico series, Clock Tower and Haunting Ground, Fatal Frame, Tales of Symphonia, Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill (with a focus on the first game, since it's my favorite), Deadly Premonition, and the late Kenji Eno's creations, but I don't plan on finishing them any time soon. Beyond that, I buy whatever interests me regardless of era or genre. My collection is just one big mess.
-
Overall my collection falls under the 'anything I'll play' category, which is pretty much anything apart from deep strategy games, sports and most types of racing.
I'm less interested in puzzle, adventure, music and fighting games (IE 1-on-1s like Street Fighter) ambivalent about FPS and open world games (Far Cry, GTA etc.) and more interested in RPGs, Beat 'em ups (Streets of Rage), platformers, arcade style games, shoot em ups, survival horror, metroidvania's, roguelikes and anything related to them.
I have a longstanding interest in Musou (Dynasty Warriors + spin-offs) games, collect fishing games for some weird reason and love picking up obscure Japanese-developed titles, crusty computer games and budget/download console titles which have been released on disc.
As far as merch goes it starts and ends with soundtracks and strategy guides, both of which I pick up wherever possible for cheap.
-
When it comes to the games, it's mainly just games that I'm interested in, combined with some games I got as gifts. No real pattern there. I have thought about collecting either Wii or DS games seriously, but I haven't gone through with that thus far (mainly for financial reasons).
As for merch, I started out with general Nintendo stuff as a hobby, then I went to dedicated Pokémon items, but now I've branched back out to general Nintendo items.

Hello Stranger! :o
When I started collecting I kind of bought anything I could find, but now I usually buy only what I am interested in. Really though my collection specializes in buying too many games that I don't have time to play ;D
-
PS1 RPGs, Dragon quest, and all things PS4/Sega master system.
Not listing NES? Interesting given you are at essentially a complete set. As much as I rag on the PS1. That's a good collection to have. The PS1 and RPGs were a match made in heaven.
-
My collection is primarily all things SEGA. I also dabble in Xbox and Macintosh game collecting. I'm currently trying to focus on 8-bit SEGA (SG-1000, Master System and Game Gear). Aside from hardware and software, I really only collect magazines. And it hasn't gone past the SEGA and Xbox exclusive magazines.

Amen.

Dust Collecting
-
Ditto on the dust collecting.
It seems a bit hodgepodge, but I consider it specializing in my specifc taste, childhood nostalgia, NES, DS, Nintendo, Sega, platformers, action & adventures, "bad" games and obscure games.
-
N. E. Mother Truckin. S.
I am so close to a complete set. It's amazing.
Other than that, it's a bit of a hodgepodge. I get stuff I like to play.... and a lot of other stuff.
-
16-32 bits RPG/tactical RPG, Fire Emblem serie, anything for NeoGeo AES, CD or Pocket at a good price... and usually its a game I will play, it won`t just collect dust.
-
Nothing, though i am tempted to get an entire collection for N64, since its my fav all time system.
-
Not a lot of western games. Mostly JRPGs, fighting games, rhythm games, and other varied stuff.

You should bulk up on your saturn collection.
-
Anything but FPS.
-
Game Boy Advance. I am attempting a full International set for that console, and that's because of preservation.

Indeed, haven't seen you much on Twitter lately!
But yeah, too much backlog, but after a bit of excess with PS3 games, I reoriented my approach a little to try and focus in a bit more. I noticed that even with good handheld games, I just don't dig playing on handhelds all that much, so decided to scale back a ton there. Started cutting out series that I was just kinda so-so on like Disgaea, and will probably sell a few things. Fewer big collector's editions, since most of the stuff just sits in the box forever. So on and so forth. It's gone pretty well overall, though you can't prevent those occasionally disappointing games.
It's surprising what sticks, though. Pillars of Eternity and Metal Gear Solid V? Eh, they're OK, but not grabbing me like I'd hoped. Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Division? Fantastic!

That's a lofty goal. Good Luck! Enjoy the ride!
-
Japanese developed games.
-
My collection mostly consists of arcade classics from the late 70's to the mid 80's. Whether it be Atari, Commodore, NES or Genesis, my collection is mostly arcade ports from that era. Also love racing games and sim games of pool or pinball. I'm also currently delving in to classic PC games from the 80's and early to mid 90's and on that front specialize in racing, sim or graphical adventure games like Full Throttle.
-
As of right now i am primarily focused on completing my NA PS Vita official release set. But i do hunt for other systems as well. If its under 12.99 there is a decent chance i will buy it, and if its under 6.99 then there is a really good chance i will buy it haha. I am going out and buying a gamecube, ps2, and original xbox today so i can hook them up and officially have my first video game system cabinet.
-
^ Congrats on your new stuff, rryan. Which cabinet is it? I've always wanted a personal arcade.

Entertainent center i should say, but have 8 square sections for consoles as of right now. I am going to attach custom backlights and LED's soon for each box to accent each system. While I am on the subject, I can seem to figure out how to post pictures here. Can someone help me?

I keep telling my wife and bank account that. They don't agree. ;)
-
Pretty much anything but sports titles. Not saying I don't own some, but I don't actively look for them out in the wild. Unless I need a replacement case for another game.
-
As far as systems go, I specialize in PS2 games, but that's mostly due to price and availability. Genre wise, I tend to specialize in racing and FPS, but I'm trying to branch out from that.
-
Anything I see that I don't have.
-
Anything I see that I don't have.
I used to do that, ended up with a lot of Madden games I couldn't give two craps about.
-
Anything I see that I don't have.
That used to be me. Then I ran out of room and ended up with a bunch of Atari, Odyssey2, and Intellivision stuff that just took up space and I never played.

Me too. I also collect comics, metal CDs, and movies of all formats. So I was really running out of room. I had to get rid of some of the consoles and games I never played like my Atari 2600, Sega CD, and TurboGrafx-16.
-
SNES/SFC games! 8)
-
My main focus was Sega Saturn (mostly imports), but then I got into the Wonderswan.
-
J-RPGs.
Seen as my collection is based around games I actually like; it's inevitable that it's dominated by my favorite genre.
-
What does my collection specialize in?
Apparently I have a large collection of Dreamcast and Xbone 360 Games. Considering I love both of those systems not really surprised. Right now I'm trying to recollected all the stuff I had when I was younger and I had a ton of games.

I am in a similiar quest. I would like to own every game i have ever (previously) owned/borrowed etc. It will mainly be NES, SNES and Genesis games.
-
For me it's Atari specifically, if that wasn't apparent, and pre-crash systems in general. It's also heavy on arcade ports from the late 70's to mid 80's as most of the games I have for NES and forward are various arcade ports. My small NES library is heavy on arcade ports and they are all excellent IMO. Same goes for Genesis, SNES, and famicom
