What's your most replayed game? That you kept coming back after completing? If any. And how many times have you beat it? How does it rate? Is it well known? Do you consider it your favourite game?
-
Mega Man X4 by a landslide.
I adore this game and have finished it at least 100 times. I give it 10s across the board.
-
I would say pokemon. I played it over and over as a kid in middle school. Other games such as sonic 2 were probably started more. But I would play that one for 20 minutes and not usually the whole way through. Pokemon is probably not my favorite game. I tried replaying it recently and just couldn't get into it as I used to. Didn't even get much farther than Viridian forest...
World of Warcraft would possibly be up there. But it is not really a replayed game unless you count character retools, which I have not done much.
-
I've got a list of these. Favorites I keep going back to time and time again:
-Bionic Commando (NES)
-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1)
-Contra (NES)
-Crystalis (NES)
-Halo 1 & 2 (XBox)
-King's Field 1 & 2 (PS1)
-King's Field: The Ancient City (PS2)
-Mega Man 2 (NES)
-Neverwinter Nights (PC)
-Super Mario Bros. 1-3 (NES)
-Super Mario World (SNES)
-Legend of Zelda 1 & 2 (NES)
-LoZ: Link to the Past (SNES)
-Lords of Thunder (TG-CD)
-Resident Evil 1-3 (PS1)
-Super Metroid (SNES)
-
My most replayed game would probably be Resident Evil 4. I had it on the GameCube when it came out--beat it a few times on that, then got it for PS2 when it came out and beat it a couple times more, then had it for iPhone and then Xbox 360 and beat it a few times there and now I plan to buy it for PS4 to add it to my collection when it comes out later this year. I think I counted beating the game about 15 or so times.
-
I'd say it be a tie between Mega Man series or the Pokemon handheld games.
-
Donkey Kong Country for sure
-
either Skyrim, or The Secret of Monkey Island
-
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
-
mine would be shining force sega gen. and disgaea ps2.
-
Super Mario World
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
Earthbound
Not sure how many times I've beaten them, but I have pretty much everything in each game memorized.
-
Probably Silent Hill 2! I've beaten it about 6 times.
I remember starting and finishing multiple rounds of Link to the Past though as well
-
Currently it's been The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match for Xbox 360. Reason why is because KOF has such an intensive combo system, and strict command-inputs that are worth investing time into pulling off. Of all-time I am not sure what my most replayed game would be.
-
It's either the original Super Mario Bros or Contra. I've finished both more times that a person should. It's probably unhealthy.
In fact, I think I'm going to play Contra right now.
-
Ace Combat 4 or Zero
-
Kingdom Hearts II, Bully, and probably The World Ends With You.

A little update on my game playing situation from last night. I ended up playing BroForce. It's pretty much the same thing, except crazy.
-
Geez there are a bunch of games that I have gone back and played through multiple times.
Super Mario World (SNES/Wii/GBA)
Fallout 3 (PC/360)
Fallout: New Vegas (PC/360/PS3)
Timesplitters: Future Perfect (PS2)
Timesplitters 2 (PS2/GCN)
Goldeneye 007 (N64)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2/360/PS4/PC)
There are probably more. Super Mario World probably tops that list since it's such a quick and easy game to just pick up and play.

A link to the past is the only game i have continuously replayed every few years. I dont like replaying games really.
-
Kingdom Hearts II for sure. Beaten it about 10 times and beat all the bosses on critical mode with 100% completion in 2.5
-

I also don't like to replay games and if I ever do, it's usually a couple years apart. Especially when HD/definitive versions are released.

If you don't replay video games, then why even keep a large collection of games?

This is actually something I've been trying to come to terms with. I generally don't replay a game unless it was so good I wouldn't mind playing it again, like the ones I listed, or if I have some ulterior motive for playing. You know, multiplayer, some specific event that occurs, etc.
So a series like Assassin's Creed, which I am really enjoying right now, I would probably never replay any of the games in the franchise, so why bother keeping the games? I don't know, why not? They aren't worth enough to justify selling them. It doesn't really hinder me to keep them. Maybe one day I'll have kids who will want to play them. Maybe one day my wife will get over her PC master race bullshit and play these games. (Kind of kidding) I don't know.

I'm going to assume this comment was also towards me. I'm not completely against replaying games--I once in awhile have my moments where I'd like to play something again but it's usually a couple years apart from having played it already. I also have my games there if company would ever like to play and eventually I'd like to pass off my games to my kids. I want them to have the same childhood I had. I think that's a fair enough explanation.
You don't have to replay all of your games often and especially not in the immediate future to justify owning them. It's like telling someone "What's the point of collecting all of these games if you're never going to play or finish half of them?" (Which is said often and makes more sense than telling someone what's the point of a collection if you don't replay) and I'd argue that most collectors don't play all of the games they buy. I'm sure you don't play your Tiger LCD games or Microvision regularly and I'm certain you don't read all of your game magazines regularly and theflea doesn't play/beat all the games he owns. No one has that kind of time--even if they had no responsibilities.
I'm not attacking you, I'm just trying to make a point. Your reason for collecting is different than others. Adding a stipulation like having to replay games to have a large collection is a bit wacky. I only plan to have about 500 games--all of them being games I like. I don't collect just to collect for completion sake or anything like that. I think about 500 across a couple consoles is a decent amount and realistic when collecting games to eventually complete. Most collectors are shelf collectors whether they like it or not, like all the big game collecting YouTubers. Stacks of games on shelves and closets and I can bet with my life most of those don't get played often. It's a sentimental value type of deal with some people. Some games get put away in a closet by collectors, just look at PatTheNESPunk. More stuff than they know what to do with for whatever reason. While I don't agree with it, meh, it's their business.

Some people just like to collect stuff. To me, why collect games if you are getting ratty-ass incomplete copies? I don't even count disc only games in my collection.
-
Easy, that should be Gears of War 3 but not for the story mode, I don't have anything with this but really love the Hordes cause enjoy to play solo and see how many levels it will take to the bastard Locust to take me down, when play with my friends can be more happier cause always end doing a fucking mess ;D
-
Ocarina of Time. Between all versions of the game, I've beat it from start to finish probably seven or eight times.

People with huge comic book or manga collections don't re-read all of their volumes, but they like having them.
People with baseball or basketball card collections don't...do whatever it is you're supposed to do with those sorts of things, but they like having them.
People with massive shoe collections don't wear the same pair over and over again, but they like having them.
My point is, you don't have to replay (or reuse) something that you bought for any sort of collection if you don't want to. Sometimes, people just enjoy collecting.

^^Yup.

My most replayed game would be Halo Combat Evolved. I've probably played through the entire campaign at least 50 times.

Impressive. I played through it once and I'm glad I'm finally done with it. Kinda boring game imo. Played on Legendary with my brother.

Seems like waste of money, in my eyes. I use and enjoy all the things I collect. I read my comics, I play my games, I listen to my CDs, I enjoy the artwork on the comic cards I have. My mentality is that if I buy something that just sits on shelf and is no good to me otherwise, I could have used the money on something I'd actually enjoy, instead.

Not your cup of tea, I can see. Lots of people don't like FPS or science fiction. But boring? With all that action, all the big orchestral scores accompanying the action, and the flying of bullets, energy shots, and grenades constantly with the yelling of your cowardly enemies going on; boring is the last word I'd use to describe Halo.
-
Right on, and I agree if someone were to buy something just for the sake of buying it and putting it somewhere on their shelf to collect dust and mold. However, if that's what makes someone happy, then I say have at it and enjoy.
You were saying it seemed silly to collect video games if you have no intention of ever replaying them, not play them at least once.

I think my issue with it was that a lot of the areas looked the same and the levels were really long. Last level probably took my brother and I two hours to finish. I'm not a big Halo fan but I did enjoy 3 and Reach.

I own several things such as statues, figures, etc. I don't use them on a regular basis, nor do I touch them on any regular basis unless I am dusting them, etc. It doesn't make them useless. I enjoy them for their pleasing aesthetic value. My statue of Darth Malgus looks really badass in my curio. I haven't "touched" it in months, but I look at it every day. Going by the line of thinking that if you aren't using something it is useless, than any décor you have in your home is "useless."
I will more than likely never actually use my 20th Anniversary PS4, but I find it far from useless. It's a thing of beauty (to me) that I wanted to own as a piece of PlayStation history. I derive my enjoyment from owning it and that's good enough for me.

Ugh, this. I bought one of these, I can't bring myself to open it or to sell it.

You can always give it to me. That's not using it or selling it. ;D

I don't replay games nearly as much as some of you seem to, but there's a few that I make a point of replaying every now and again, and many others in my collection I can see myself playing again eventually. The games I find myself replaying most often include Earthbound (WiiU VC), Mother 3 (GBA), Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii), Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island (GBA), and Super Metroid (Wii VC).
