Title: Username origins.
Post by: kashell on April 19, 2016, 04:11:45 pm
I thought that it would be fun to learn about the origins behind everyone's user name on this site. I'll start.

Kashell is short for Kashell Triumph. Over 15 years ago, I registered on GameFAQs.com with the username of Kashell Triumph because I was playing both Thousand Arms (the main character's last name is Triumph) and Valkyrie Profile (my favorite character is Kashell) at the time. Ever since, Kashell has just kind of stuck. Some folks call me Kash, a few call me Kashy, some used to call me Kashy-Dahling (there's a long story behind that one) and other variations. And yes, it's Mr. Triumph if you're nasty.

Now, I make Kashell my username anywhere I'm able to do so. When I'm playing a new game that asks me to name the main character, I either use my real name or Kashell. It just depends on my mood.

What about the rest of you?

Well, I think mine is self-explanatory, especially considering it matches my avatar photo. So, I'll wait to see if someone says where it's from.

Rayne315 is a variation of a username I have had for a very long time. it came out of my love of summer rain storms and playing in them as a kid and a childhood friends tendency to mis-spell "ain" sounds in words with "ayne"/old English spelling (Payne, Rayne, Gayne, ect). whenever I cannot make a username with 5 characters I either put my psn username, Rayne_n_Blood, or Rayne315. Rayne_n_Blood came as a variation meant to cause a little bit of intimidation when playing online multiplayer games like COD, has nothing to do with Slayer, and is only used for things that are competitive. And the 315 is my brothers favorite number which we are close so it fits in well.

I had a close friend in grade 7 who loved reading the Redwall Novels, i liked the main characters name a lot so i tried using it online, unfortunately that name was impossible to get on any site so i just altered it to Matimo. I sadly no longer even have contact with this said friend, i wish i did.

On a high school trip to Washington, D.C. I won an Abe Lincoln hat in some trivia thing we did. I wore it a lot during the trip and one of the teachers started calling me Abe. The summer after that was when I discovered VGCollect from r/gamecollecting. I think I tried Darkadia or something like that too, but I liked VGC better, which is why I'm still here.

In my younger days I used to write stories and one was called "The Flea" (it was about a man you could not die and how it destroyed his life) then when I started writing video game reviews I went by the code name "The Flea" and ever sense then I always made my username with anything that was video game related The Flea or just Flea.

Redblaze57 came from something similar in a soulcalibur game for a computer-generated name and changed it a little and added 57 to the end cause I never have had a problem getting a username with that.

my name over on OPB (Zakk Z) is much more involved. Due to certain people using my real name back on Retro Reload I decided to Change itmy favorite Guitarist is Gus G which is a shorten version of his name (Gus) with his Nickname (G) which is obviously just his first initial. so I took the Shorten version of my name and put my first initial after it.  the Shorten version of my real name is Zack changed the spelling to Zakk (yes got the alternate spelling from Zakk Wylde Shut up. Fun Fact, he actually lives in the town next to mine appearantly) therefore I got Zakk Z

Tripredacus is a faction from the Transformers: Beast Wars show, also a gestalt (combiner) from the toyline.

Tripredacus_Agent was the name given to the Transmetals 2 toy of Ravage from Beast Wars, Ravage (from Dreamwave comic) is my avatar. I use this name in cases where Tripredacus is not available due to someone else using it (only the case on 2 sites that I am aware of) or my original account was lost/locked due to various circumstances.

Back when I was in elementary school I made a RuneScape account around 2007/2008ish.  I was completely obsessed with Pac-Man at the time, and based my name off of the DS game Pac-Pix.  Oddly enough someone already had pacpix on RS, so I was pacpix5, until I changed it to pac_pix a couple of years ago.

An interesting topic! My username doesn't have a really interesting origin story, though. I just heard an association of Telly and Westside together and thought it sounded pretty neat! I first used it as my PSN gamertag, and also use it on XBL and a few other places.

I shortened it to Telly on VGC just to make things easier. Funnily enough there's a video game called Telly Turtle for the Atari 400 800/ Colecovision, so that's the origin of my avatar as well.  ;)

I also go by TeaWest on some other online spaces as another way to shorten it, and on Bulbagarden Forums I go as Pory gone? (A reference to Porygon, my favorite Pokemon of all time) :)

Have to use this user name cause the forum didn't allowed me to use my original one which is Dead or Alive Fan, started to use this one years ago when I saw the bOObs I mean the girls of this franchise also at that same time started to messing around in a lot of forums even the bad ones so if you see somebody using this one and that person claim that doesn't like porn or hentai is not me  ;)

One of my many hobbies is I love bicycles. I don't collect them like I do games and other things, but I love to ride them. I mostly ride road and commuter bikes, but I used to really be into XC Mountain biking.

The second part of my user name is named after the orbital frame in Zone of the Enders known as Jehuty. Funny enough, i've always spelled it with an "a" and not an "e" It was a mistake I made for years and wasn't until several years ago that I realized I was misspelling it. I just decided to run with the incorrect spelling :p

My username started out as Gamer From 78 wayyy back in 1997 when I started posting on consumerreview.com.  I was born in 1974, but "Gamer Since 1978" (when I started gaming) didn't have the same ring to it.  I've kept that username for nearly 20 years now, using it on everything from forums, websites, an email address, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.  I just shorted it to "gf78" for this site.  One, because it is shorter and easier and two, because when I initially registered for this site I screwed it up and had to re-register with a new username.

So I noticed most of us have gaming related avatars but if anyone wants to know what mine is..

One day I wanted to go out hiking through the woods. so I drove probably 20 miles from home till I found a relatively large (for the area) forrest and started to wander through it. I probably spent about 4 hours getting lost in their. eventually I came across a creek (its actually a small river but to me creeks are anything you can easily and safely walk across) and decided to follow it. eventually I found this railroad bridge structure that had only half the bridge their.

I could immediately tell that I am one of the only people to know this thing exists because their was absolutely no graphitti on it (which their usually is on any remote man made structure people know about)

the thing that was the weirdest about this abandoned bridge though was that looking through historical maps their was no sign that any railroad had ever traveled through that forest and I could find no plans to ever have a track go through it. so it is my little piece of personal knowledge that very few people if anyone else knows about.

Title: Origin of your VGCollect username
Post by: hexen on May 25, 2017, 12:27:37 pm
I always find this an interesting topic to learn about how people think, and I think I've ended up asking it on just about every forum I've been on eventually. In almost all circumstances something so simple usually has a more complex story than you'd think or a meaning that may not be so obvious.

I'll start things out with mine. The most obvious guess is that my name is based off the game Hexen, but that's not true (or maybe it is, indirectly). Back when I was a young'n after a long time my brother and I where finally able to convince our parents to get us an N64 used. We both got to get a game. My brother got Bomberman Hero and I got Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as it was the games that made me want an N64 to begin with. The game being used it had a save file on it named Hexen. The file had everything done on it and little me was impressed. The file got deleted, I think by my brother, so when I started my game I named it Hexen II and the rest is nearly 20 years of a common avatar name.

So how about you guys? Any interesting tales?

I thought it took part in the convo last time this thread popped up, but I guess I didn't.

I'll give a tl;dr at the end.  In my youth, the extent of my PC game playing was limited to C64 games, and then I immediately jumped to Atari 2600/SNES (Early 90s, yeah, pretty late for Atari) and went from console to console.  In high school I was introduced to UT2k4 and Onslaught mode.  This was my first experience with real PC gaming (C64 was little stuff, like all ASCII art and shit, probably not even commercial games).  I really really liked the vehicle combat.  This was almost exclusively the UT2k4 demo so you really only had access to the Hellbender, Scorpion, and Manta.  I really can't recall if the Goliath and Leviathan were in the demo.  (ONS-Torlan) My favorite thing to do was drive around and mow people down.  At this point I had no handle what so ever.  So early on, I went through some different names like "Doom", "Ima Kilyu", "Meaculpa", "Desperado", and "Get Quashed".  Eventually I wanted "Vehicular Manslaughter Man", but obviously that was too long so I just went with "Ignition" and occasionally used "Damage" for games that wouldn't allow 8 characters.  "Doom" and "Link" for when it was even fewer characters.  Most folks assume the 365 is because the standard name was already taken, but actually it's from the same scenario.  My friends and I had a gaming clan called Clan 365.  I think our idea was that we'd whoop your ass any day, but not on leap year, that's a day of peace.

tl;dr  "Vehicular Manslaughter Man" was too long.

Minor Threat's "Guilty of Being White"

In today's PC culture, being a straight, white male that lives in the South... I continually realize that no matter what I say or do in life, I will have this stigma: I am the problem. I just like how you can pretty much put anything I'm guilty of after my username: Guilty of Being ______.

I've been using this tag for various games and forums for just under 20 years now. I think my Starcraft handle was the first. Basically, as a kid, I really liked dragons and I dreamed of conquering the world, so being a Dragon Emperor made sense. I didn't notice the spelling error until much later, but at that point I decided to roll with it.

One of the things I did enjoy a bit was that for the longest time, I could just google my tag and get 6-7 pages of results that were all me. But that came to the end when both Yugioh and Webkins (and later, Magic) released an Emperor Dragon.

I've had this name since the mid 1990's. It is my old hacking name from my days on irc and msn chat, or at least a watered down version of it. Those who knew me or knew of me would probably recognize it more as xsu|c|desn0wmanx or [Su|c|d3-Sn0wMaN] depending on how long it's been since they heard of seen the name.

I am probably most well known for being one of the 3 people who broke the encryption on Microsofts webchat service introduced in 1999. If anyone on here ever went on that chat site, then you probably know who I am. Currently I am trying to apply these skills to my gaming news & review site, links in the sig if you wish to check it out.

Mine is not interesting at all, but anyways...
Since I am Brazilian, I have a couple of surnames and one of them is "Ferrari".
For some reason that only makes sense in the heads of young teenagers, my friends started calling me "Ferraroso" around the time of Middle School. So, when the internet started to become a thing, the username "Ferrari" was, for obvious reasons, always took before I could create my own account in any service, so I've started using "ferraroso" in lowercase because, at the time, no website would accept capital letters for login.

And that's it (I told it was not interesting).

My last name is Overturf.  There are tons of people through highschool and college that only knew me as Turf.  I even had college professors that called me that.  My friends parents called me Turf.  It was just natural that when the internet came around I would use that.  I have had the email address turf@ mail.com since sometime in the 90's.

I'll just copy and paste from this thread:

https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,7134.0.html

I look at mine is kinda bittersweet.  I was huge fan of Final Fantasy XI my wife and I used to play religiously.  Made a lot of friends and had a lot of good times, some bad times as well.  Still get nostalgic when I hear music from that game.  Waiting to get a party invites, doing BCNMs and what not with out linkshell, or just running around farming and doubling up for some exp in our downtime.

Anywhozle.  FFXIK  is Final Fantasy XI Kovalt,

My XBLA and PSN user names also follow suit.  Kovalt Remora.   Character name followed by server.
