がんばって!  ;) Our Japanese side of the database is still puny, so your work is definitely welcome  :D I've been adding some Japanese games every now and then too, but that's true dedication!

Thanks! :) Feel free to help with the Canadian release games, certainly! It can be difficult to find good pictures of everything, and since you're actually in Canada maybe you'll have more luck than me :D

The second largest problem I've found with Canadian games (other than finding them in the first place) is newer games that have a general North American release. There are quite a few modern games (PS3 onward) that are like this, where the US version is bilingual and there are no US or CA specific release.

The same can be said of actually purchasing them. They sometimes show up in the used section at Gamestop in my area, but I've had to resort to complaining during checkout because the cashier will swap the case out to a US box... Although they also do this for other package variations and Special Editions because I suspect their software relies on barcode only.

I guess some companies do the general NA dual language releases more often than others. Namco and Nintendo are two that seem to do it a lot, at least from what I've seen

Once I move and my scanner is setup, I could scan boxes for games that I own  :) I haven't done it yet mostly because I add the general NA/US item to my collection. For my own profile, I don't mind if the only difference is text on the front/back.  :P

Update my first post: I've been doing some work filling out the three KR sections that were added recently (Wii, DS, 3DS) I will probably work on GameCube [KR] when that gets added as well.

So, as I'm winding down my Canadian GameCube project, I think I'm going to start adding and cleaning up the entire GameCube console category, the following will be a post of what's out there and what needs to be added. Feedback is always appreciated, as there always could be something that I missed. I think the big issue will be finding DOL-001 vs 101 for some of these variants, and the nature of Australian releases.

The ones with regions are the ones that are identified and will be strikethrough as they're added or have been added already. For example, the Panasonic Q was only in Japan, so that's why it has the region tags because all regions have been identified.

I think my goal in doing this is to add as much as I can to the database. Obviously I'm limited to what I can find online, so at some point there will be only so much that I can do. I probably won't be able to complete the entire category.

Variation List
Black [NA] [EU] [JP] (DOL-001 and 101)
Bonus Games [CA]
Clear Controller Bundle [JP]
Donkey Konga [JP] [EU]
Final Fantasy Crystal White [JP]
Game Boy Player Set [NA] [EU] [JP] (In Indigo, Silver, Black, Orange in Japan)
Starlight Gold [JP]
Hanshin Tigers [JP]

Indigo [NA] [EU] [JP]
Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition
Mario Kart Double Dash!! [NA] [EU] (In Indigo and Silver)
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes [JP]
Char's Customized Box [JP]
Metroid Prime
Orange (DOL-001 and 101) [JP]
Pikmin 2 [JP]
Platinum [NA] [EU] [JP] (DOL-001 and 101)
Pokemon Colosseum
Pokemon XD [NA] [EU] [JP]
Resident Evil 4 [EU]
SD Gundam G Generation [JP]
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros Melee
Tales of Symphonia [JP], [EU]
Panasonic Q [JP]
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
White [EU]

Once I have all the consoles entered, I will go back and add in barcodes and other information

UPDATE 2.17

I have been making a spreadsheet of GameCube release data that I will be putting in this thread some time in a couple weeks. Because of my finals and papers and such I haven't had a ton of time to do any additional searching, but hopefully that will change when spring break comes around.

Hopefully your project is not as tough as mine. I'm on month two already and it seems that the more of my list I complete, the more I find! What a pain!

But for yours, was there a list somewhere already?

I was spoiled only working on Sega stuff before. The Sega fan sites have nearly everything documented already and the only searching I would have to do is to find pictures. As big as Nintendo and Sony fanbases seem to be, they do not seem to be as dedicates as the Sega ones for whatever reason.

I found that to be surprising too when I was searching for cover artwork for the few Canadian games I own. The artwork is different due to the languages added, but folks just seem to be content with the regular NA cover for all listings. ("Balderdash!" I say!)

Luckly the GameCube is easier because there are only four model variations, and maybe 11 mainboard revisions. And obviously the console was not around as long nor as widespread as the PS2.  :o

I've only been able to find a list of EU models, but it's not complete. So I've been making steady progress so far (fingers crossed).

So far I have 71 releases documented in some form on my spreadsheet, but I'm not experienced in tracking consoles from Australia, Brazil or Korea so I have almost none of those listed yet

For Australia: Use ebay.com.au.
For Brazil: use Mercadolivre.com.br
For Korea: translate what you are searching for into Korean using Google Translate. Then search the translated term and find a site that is showing relevant information. Google will help a little in finding the correct translation, because it is not always good as it is known a machine translation can be a problem. But you can expect that a native Korean website will have it written properly, so I use this step to glean terms from the native language website in which to search for.
See this post I made for a relevant subject: https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,6782.msg133484.html#msg133484

Alllright guys, here's the spreadsheet for the GameCube consoles that I have been working on. Currently I have 114 consoles documented in one form or another, but I know there are plenty more I haven't gotten yet. I just wanted to show my progress so far.

One thing to note about my use of "FBC" for marking images. If you notice I don't use a Y or X for FBC columns because sometimes I find an image that I will save but won't actually use. For for my list for F, I can put these:
F: front box image
S: stock photo if it is a pre-release stock photo showing the box and accessories outside of it, or stock photo construction (not actual box photo)
P: proof pic with a watermark, or other things obscuring it

So I like to note which items have a re-release stock photo and if an entry only has that, then there is the possibility it may not exist. The proof one means I have a picture but I can't use it, but it has more weight than just having a stock photo.

Good for you to have release date. It is a column I added way after I started and wish I had it from the beginning. :\

That does make a lot of sense, there are some stock photos for a particuarly rare console box (a Pikmin 2 bundle in Japan) that I was for sure did not exist because all I could find was a stock photo.

I did eventually find a photo of the open box with the contents inside it though, so now I know it's real.

UPDATE:

Progress has been slow on the GameCube consoles, just because I'm so busy with school and work. I think I'm at around 130 or so at this point. Hopefully I can make some good progress on it over the summer because I want to start updating the database once I have all the information I need.

I also want to make sure I added all the Canadian GameCube titles so I can have that done as well.

UPDATE:

I'm up to 166 variations documented now. Starting to zone in on all the images that I need, and confirming those last pesky box variants. Finding back box art of consoles is tough, especially for the European releases. Luckily only about 13% of the consoles have no image art whatsoever, which is encouraging. Once I have front box art for as many consoles as I can I will start adding stuff finally  :-X

I also need to track down some good images of the dev kits that are not the NPDP/NR/TDEV consoles

UPDATE:

Haven't mentioned on the GameCube consoles in a while, but I haven't forgotten about it. I'm up to 225 variations, and found a lot of info about the Korean releases, which was nice. At this point the one thing I need to learn how to do is photoshop so I can edit and change the angle on some of those weirder box photos. That's really the last thing other than adding the the odd release here or there that I missed. I would like to get everything done and uploaded to the site by the end of the Christmas holiday/vacation.

I also plan on starting a new thread in the database section to document the whole process that I did so that people who aren't on VGC will be able to find the master list and follow along with why everything is so detailed, and they don't have to dig through this worklog or the actual list cold to find everything.

Sometimes it seems like I spend most of my time editing images.

Yeah, I have a huge folder with a ton of images that need to be cropped, rotated or whatnot. Hopefully it won't take super long  :-X

UPDATE

I added in most of the entries in to the database over the holidays, and only have a few more to go.  The last big hurdle is adding the standard releases, which tripredacus has been very helpful in providing some guidance. Unfortunately GameCube console boxes are pretty standard across the board so naming the variations has been challenging.

The other issue is I'm still looking for good pictures of european boxes so I can come up with a good naming system for them. Once that is done the rest of those variants will be added and the section will be complete!  ;D

Right now I'm working through adding all the Canadian 3DS games. Have probably added about 60 so far. Starting with the 1st party stuff because it's easy to identify.

Keeping track of a list of titles I've confirmed had a Canadian release, but can't find good art of at this time.

- Miitopia
- New Super Mario Bros 2 (red case, 77335A)
- New Super Mario Bros 2 (red case, 77335B) https://vgcollect.com/item/185540
- Pokémon Rumble World https://vgcollect.com/item/185536
- Super Mystery Dungeon
- Ultimate NES Remix - Nintendo Selects https://vgcollect.com/item/185541
- Captain Toad
- Hey! Pikmin

One of these days I'm going to really put a big effort into adding the large collections of video game vinyl and CDs to the site. Just added a couple of things I bought off of Materia Collective and there are so many others.

I'll probably have lots of questions about how to clean up some of the listings as I start going through and adding stuff.

I decided to look into seeing what I could find on my own, and it seems that New Super Mario Bros. 2 -  Red Case may also have two variants. I found one with a white ESRB text box (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/KEsAAOSwFNBdkFsK/s-l1600.jpg) and a second with a black ESRB text box (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/MBYAAOSwfEJePtU5/s-l1600.jpg).

Need to get the GC HW category fixed up, regarding the names now what we have a format.
https://vgcollect.com/browse/gchardware

Particularly what stands out is that color are not formatted as descriptors, rather as editions.
