Title: Who did you pick most in mario 2?

Mario 3d world and a few others let you pick too. Typically between Toad, Peach, Mario and Luigi :D.   I always pick peach because I always pick the girl character when optional and I love how she floats.  :)

I never played 3D Mario word before yet but however if you're talking about Super Mario Bros.2 for NES then i would say that depends on who i want to play like sometimes i play as peach because like you said you she does have a useful ability to float so you don't fall or don't lose easily as the other.

If you compare each characters abilities & special abilities each characters have so like i said it depends on who i want to play at the moment & depends on who i want to use at the moment :).

Always was a fan of Toad for SMB2 on NES.

Luigi or Toad. I like Luigi because he's green and Toad because he shows that short people can be strong.

I played a shitload of SMB2 on the NES.  I have a favorite character for each stage. 
From Most to Least -  Luigi > Princess > Toad > Mario

Luigi jumps the highest
Princess floats
Toad digs the fastest
Mario sucks

Mostly Peach, but each level is designed to have it's advantages with probably just one character. Luigi is awful. It's like controlling a fish out of water.

Priness Toadstool for me, as well. The floating mechanic is actually really fun.

Luigi on every stage except one of the snow levels. I forget which one exactly, but I use Toad for that one.

I had my own system:
Toad for 1-1
Mario for 1-2
Toad for 1-3
Luigi for desert levels, because his high jumps made it easier to stay out of the quicksand
Princess Toadstool for ice levels, so I could float over the ice
Mario or Toad (usually Mario) for world 7

Toad first. Speedy guy can get the most coins in nighttime.

The princess for levels with long unforgiving jumps.

Luigi and Mario never. :P
