What game are you really good at?
-
Resident Evil 3, Gears of War 3 and Mega Man 2 and you ? ;D
-
I feel like I've got really good at Crash Team Racing despite not being able to beat all of the time trials and what-not. Once I mastered those mechanics, it became the best feeling kart racer ever.
-
At least for recent games, I used to be a boss at Mario Kart 8, rarely ever getting lower than 3rd place in nearly every online match I played.
I was also really good at Smash Bros on the 3DS. As most remember the 3DS version came out several months before the Wii U version did and most of my time was spent on the 3DS version. I had a decent win ratio with Zero Suit Samus, and while I was nowhere near a pro I'd consider myself pretty damn good at that version of the game. Funny enough I'd say I'm average on the Wii U version.
I used to be able to play Star Fox 64 without getting hit. I used to replay it over and over again when I was a kid and it never got old for me. Still love the game, but not nearly as good as I used to be.
Like Star Fox 64 I used to play Tekken Tag Tournament all the time on my PS2 and was very good at it for a while. I recently played against my boss and totally noobed it lol.
In general I am pretty good at 2D fighting games such as the Capcom VS games, Street Fighter 2 and 3, King of Fighters, and other similar SNK titles. Oddly enough I suck at the ArcSYS fighting games like Blazblue and Guilty Gear, just never got the hang of them I guess.
-
-Super Monkey Ball 2
- Mario stuff
- A bunch of shmups( Assault, Fixeight, etc.) - some of them are even western records
- Metal Slug 1/X/Contra
- Pretty decent at SSB Brawl
-
Resident Evil 3, Gears of War 3 and Mega Man 2 and you ? ;D
I'm so so. Can't say im pro or really good at any retro game. But was good at halo. I saw a speedrunner on some oldschool games, I just realised how insanely skilled these guys are. Still can't believe some people have beaten ghouls and ghosts.
-
Mega Man X
Super Smash 64/Melee
NBA Street
-
The only two I'd say I'm really good at are
Contra
and
Super Mario Bros.
I'm really just slightly above average on both of them.
-

You should check out GnG speedruns or weapon only runs; some really talented people. GnG is still on my list to 1cc; only gotten to the second loop so far.

My main two would probably be Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus and Final Fantasy 8... though since it's less to do with skill and more about knowledge I don't know if FF8 would really count.
I could probably complete the whole of Abe's Exoddus with my eyes closed, I've got pretty much every inch of that game memorised. And I've learned to exploit the junction system of Final Fantasy 8 way too well so I can pretty much just walk through the whole game now.
I'm pretty good at most rhythm games I've played though, and if I had time to de-rust I could probably beat most people at SoulCalibur. Maybe the Persona 4 Arena games too.
Edit: Holy hell I completely forgot, I'm really good at the Unreal Tournament/Championship games. Give me a flak cannon and I will give you a bloodbath.
-
I'd classify myself above average in Smash Bros. Team Fortress 2, and a few others, but never really good at a game. The biggest problem I tend to face is that in my groups if friends, is when the skill gap grows too wide, the players on the lower end just lose interest in the game. Also, having hundreds of games in the collection meant I never stayed focused on just one game.
Outside of video games, it'd definitely be Risk. Only problem there now is that I have to spend the beginning of every game trying to convince people that everyone vs. me is not the best course of action.
-
Gran Turismo series. I have more than 1800+ hrs of gameplay on GT5. Can't wait for the 7th instalment.

I also have this very same problem ::)
-
I also have this very same problem ::)
I find the best solution is to use grudges from other games to shape alliances; Sure, I may be an asshole to deal with in Risk, but this asshole didn't go around blocking everyone's Wood in Catan.
-
Tetris Attack.
-
Mega Man X3
Mega Man X4
Super Smash Bros.
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
And more recently, Aragami.
I would throw in some RPGs, but LeJason made a good point about them being more about knowledge of the games instead of skill.
-
I wouldn't say I'm really good, but I'm pretty good at Call of Duty games, particularly the first Black Ops
-
A few multiplayer titles:
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo Reach
Doom 2016
Cod Black Ops 1
Star Wars Battlefront (2004)
Star Wars Republic Commando
-
I'm not phenomenal at games really, but I really like to pose challenges with the Mega Man titles. Doing buster only runs, no upgrade runs etc. Proud owner of the bragging rights for completing Mega Man X, X4, and X5 without getting hit. I guess I can throw Doom & Doom 2 in there as well, played the hell out of those games.
-
Im really good at Shadow of the Colossus. in fact if I had known about speed running back when I played it religiously I would have been a speed runner for it I was that good and efficient at it. in fact I know a bunch of exploits for the game like being able to get on top of the first colossus during the cut scene where he falls for the first time. I even know about how to get through no-mans-land on the final colossus without going through the underground and I figured it out myself too.
I need to go back to the ps3 version and platinum it...
-
Bomberman games.. super bomberman 3 is probably my best, although I just started playing online with Bomberman Blast (WiiWare aka wii shop) and my record is 20 - 3 with those losses due to lag ;)
also NBA hangtime / Jam T.E.
Super Final Match Tennis (AKA Smash Tennis in Europe...)
I can give a pretty good competition on Mario Kart 8
for single player games, the most difficult one (IMHO) that I am decent at is probably Sin and Punishment Star Successor
-
If I think about it, I have been really good at two games.
The first was Starcraft/BW. When I first joined battle.net, I had known a guy in a clan... I think it was [WS] or something. They were ok and I was an average player. Then that clan merged with another clan that was from South Korea and their leader was in the top 10 of the Korean Ladder. We then had some training games and he shows us how to play Protoss. So we worked that way for awhile but since there was such a time difference, we didn't end up playing with them very much. Also then everyone (the US people) left the clan or stopped playing Starcraft. I was then on my own and decided to play on the NA Ladder. I went 35-0 and then quit.
The second was Quake 3, which I played for much longer. I had mastered the strafe jump fairly quickly and then the rocket jump. Also a different way to aim, where you put your mouse sensitivity all the way up. Then you can look around very quickly. And you can time it in such a way that where you can do a 360 (or less, whatever) very fast by lifting the mouse off the desk slightly and then put it down to stop the turn. I kind of learned this by accident when I went from using ball to optical mouse around 2002. This trick can only be used with an optical mouse, it does not work for a ball mouse.
So this way you end up moving much faster than everyone else, but then you also get blamed for botting. Needing more challenge I left the normal arenas (and Urban Terror) to play on rail servers. Then I moved entirely to jump maps, or what became known as parkour servers, which were all about using the speed tricks where I then finally figured out how to do plasma walking. These types of servers all had maps where you needed to use the tricks to move around, the platforms and jumps were in some range outside of a normal jump. It was popular for a short time, but the amount of people playing Q3 was falling and most people who joined those servers did not know how to do this, so they camped a lot. I then ended up moving to speed servers like Vogon. This type of server was modified to make the game run faster than normal. This is the end of the story, having gone to this type of server, you cannot go back because normal speed is too slow. My best achievement was playing in the tournament that lasted for many hours. I made it to the final match and lost vs Russian (his name, he was from Russia).
Since having those experiences, and the amount of time it took of my life playing. Especially Quake 3 where you can get "rusty" from not playing daily, I have not had the motivation to be "good" or competitive in any other game. Now I just play them for fun.

pokemon OTL
once you learn the mechanics to a fault, you never, ever forget them.
tetris attack... is a game i was really good at. i almost attempted the speed run challenge, but the run of the game is like 10 minutes or less, so i didn't bother, haha. it's bad enough seeing those coloured blocks behind your eyes when you just play casually... playing for a month or more straight... i might go mad. everything might be a collection of coloured blocks if i do that. hats off to the guy who probably dreams coloured blocks to this day.
i have yet to meet anyone who can beat me irl in a game of mario kart double dash, provided i'm given an opportunity to reacquaint with the controls~ mirror mode, standard mode, 16 crash course, doesn't matter. i'm really fucking good at MKDD.

I realize it's probably considered to be an easy game, but Super Punchout! After about 10 years of not playing, I picked it up and had a flawless run through. Punchout! on NES? Completely different story.
-
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I've beaten this game so many times without dying and I know where every single item is by heart.
-

The arcade game?
-
Ace combat 4, 5 and zero (ps2)
tony hawk (n64)

Nah, I didn't realize there was an arcade one.
-
Does co-op Super Smah TV with my older brother count? We've played through it multiple times, getting all they keys and question marks, and then again in turbo mode.
I've had the high score on two local Galaga machines for a while now, but compared to people online I'm a total noob.

I was going to say. Super Punchout!! arcade game is really tough.

THPS (Tony Hawk Pro Skater) games-Love the series.
Tetris (GB)-Good but retro.
Plants Vs Zombies (PC)-i play it as a kid.
;)

-
Contra
Call of duty 2
Halo
Mega man games
Tekken
-
Mike Tyson's Punch Out
Super Mario Bros (not speed run good but pretty darn good)
Tecmo Super Bowl
-
Any Street Fighter game before SF5 because I don't know a PS4
-
I'm pretty good at Tony Hawk's game, Virtua fighter 5, Tekken games, Skate games.
-
Most rhythm games. Amplitude, Guitar Hero, Hatsune Miku, Gitaroo Man, etc...
-
Contra - I never needed the 30-man code. My greatest gaming accomplishment is beating it twice consecutively (including the harder second time through) without dying.
Ninja Gaiden 2 - I actually got good enough at this I beat it regularly. I found it much easier than NG1.
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past - I used to know where everything was in the game, and I became an expert at obtaining the L2 Power Glove early so I could get the most powerful sword and make the game easier.
Resident Evil 2 - I played through each scenario so many times I knew every enemy placement and who I could avoid wasting ammo on.
TMNT (arcade) - I know this game by heart and can to this day beat it on 2 credits. Almost beat it on one credit once but I got careless against Krang and he killed me.
-
I really wish I could say The King of Fighters. Not that I am bad, but I am miles behind what those Chinese and Korean guys can do.
And I am not considering Alex Kidd in Miracle World for the Master System, as that was by far the game I played the most throughout my life.
So, concerning non-competitive games, I could say... maybe the Metal Gear and Ace Combat series?
-
I'm no speedrunner but I'm pretty good at some games
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Super Mario Sunshine
Wind Waker HD
Mario kart 8 - I think I'm pretty decent, but I just don't use fire hopping or other advanced techniques so I can't quite tell.
Skyward Sword
-
Burnout 3: Takedown, especially the Road Rage mode. I've gotten 62 takedowns in one round.
-
I play at the easiest difficulty setting on every single genre except for some types of sports games. So I just like talking more about video games at the moment more then being hardcore. I am a wuss I guess :P. the only online multiplayer I played in my life would be Zandronum/ former skulltag the PC doom engine. that I was a keyboard master for a while and people thought I was using an aimbot but I wasn't. I have a good gut for gaming but little skill from a master at all genres give me a 2-20 rating. There are some guys I believe out there that can tackle every genre and noone wants to play them as a result. I'm good at most PS2 NHL and PS1 NHL games that I sometimes play on medium difficulty in which most have 4 difficulty settings ranging from Beginner Easy Medium and Hard I suck at platforms, I really suck at strategy games but I am pretty good at simple run and gun games, like Call Of Duty I mean I have potential in call of duty
Now tell the truth people and answer this question
What do you rate yourself as an all round gamer?
from 1-20 self rating 20 being perfect at every single video game at the upmost hardest difficulty old and new from the Atari 2600 to the current generation and 1 being horrible. let keep this conversation interesting shall we ;)
we could also rate in these sections
2nd generation or Atari 2600-1-10
NES or 3rd 2-10
SNES or Mega/Genesis or 4th gen 1-10
Ps1 N64 or Sega Saturn (etc) 5th generation 2-10
6th gen or PS2 Dreamcast, or Xbox 2-10
7th PS3, 360, or Wii 3-10
8th current any current system 1-10
sports 1-10
platforming 1-10
beat em ups 1-10
fighting 3-10
shooting 4-10
3rd person 1-10
RPG 3-10
Stratagy 1-10
racing 3-10
Sim -10-10
Arcade 1 -10
other-1-10
my score one out of five stars
