Out of your whole collection, which type of gaming would you say occupies more of your play time?
Modern Gaming- 360, PS3, PS4, PS VITA, Xbox One, 3DS, 2ds, Wii, Wii U, Switch
Or
Retro gaming- DS/PSP era and earlier.
I have found myself playing a lot more modern games lately which kind of makes me feel bad because i really love my retro consoles. I need to make an effort to play more retro games this year :D It's just been so much epic gold coming from modern consoles like PS4 and Switch. Seems like a preorder slip around every corner and i havent had time to sit in front of the Old SNES as much. :(.
Which do you find yourself playing more of lately. Old skool classics or New Skool releases? :)

If a game is good, a game is good. I could care less whether it's modern or retro.
-
I just play whatever I fancy really, I would say the line is pretty even between the two.
-
It is about 50/50 for me. Just depends on what I feel like at the moment.
-
The sixth generation is my favorite but that is kind of in between modern and retro.
-
While I do enjoy retro games, I find myself favoring modern games more, simply because I enjoy collecting achievements.
-
either is fine
-
Modern. I don't go back to retro stuff too often.
-
Recently, I've been playing much more retro simply due to the fact that I've been buying MUCH more retro...
Nowadays, it is so hard for me to have the guts of paying the equivalent to US$60.00+ in a new game when, for the same amount, I could've been buying awesome classic stuff that are lacking in my collection like Ikaruga, or even Splatterhouse CIB for the PC Engine.
-
Retro, as in current gen games that play like old-school favorites. Modern games are too chalk full of "mechanics" and cut-scenes for me, so definitely retro.
-
Retro.
My PS4 has been used once, by my wife, I never liked Sony systems and have never been tempted to bother with it. My Xbox One has pretty much become a media center that can also play the occasional game of Dig Dug, Pac-Man, Missile Command, etc... It did have a good run with Fall Out 4 and a Transformers game, who's title escapes me at the moment, for a time. I never did hook the 360 up again after the last tournament it was used for. Meanwhile the retro systems see regular use.
Racing games were one of the driving forces in getting the latest console, micro-transactions, DLC that should have been in the game from day one, and using the cop out of other players "Ghosts" rather than coming up with a decent AI or fun objectives killed any interest I have in modern racing games.
Between the nickel and diming of micro-transactions/DLC and the numerous pointless achievements (Turned on the game - 50 points) (Didn't set yourself on fire - 250 points) (Spent 16,000 hours clicking on ants while wearing a blue hat - 5 points) in modern games have kind of turned me off on this generation, which is sad since I have been at the front of the line for every generation. other than the 4th (Held a grudge against the SNES displacing the NES so soon).

Retro for the past decade.
-
I'm well aware the majority of my playing takes place on modern systems.
-
I mostly game on modern consoles, I do play some retro games here and there, but I really don't have a lot of retro games to begin with.
Though my definition of what is modern goes a little further back. According to the OP the DS/PSP era goes until at least 2011 and includes the Xbox 360 and PS3 so that definition of modern would only be consoles from this current generation. For me modern is around the time of the PS2, GameCube and Xbox.
-
Would love to say Retro but the only console that I have connected to the TV is the 360, the old ones are stored in a closet so when I want to get mi butt kicked really hard I play with them ;D
-
For me it is 50/50. Here lately I've been jumping between three platforms of PS2, PS4, and PC. Having a blast on all three.
-
I play everything almost equally.
-
100% retro for me I am Still getting used to PlayStation 3 games. The Newest thing I got is a PlayStation 3 slim 250gig upgraded to 500gig of free space.
-
It's hard to say, this past month has been split pretty evenly between PS2, 360 and Switch.
If I had to pick I would say retro. There are too many good games from the PS2/Xbox/GCN generation to count.
-
Since the Switch came out, it's been more modern. It comes and goes like the tides. It won't be long and it'll be more Retro again. Last night I sat down and played a couple of hours of NES.
-
For me right now it's 80% modern 20% retro but it always changes
-
I would say Modern 99%
-
90% modern 10% retro. It doesn't help that the oldest systems wired-up in the house are the PS1 (via PS2) and N64. Some older PC games get played (playing Titan Quest ATM, which is kinda 6th generation in console terms), but what's really torn it is the PS4's physical scene, the availability of so many titles which differ so much has left me like a kid in a candy store. Ironically, the one thing I would say against the PS4 is that the triple-A releases seem very sparse, but hey there's plenty to play still, like the look of that Surge ;)
-
I'd say both, usually i always plays 3 games at a time and it's either 2 modern 1 retro or 2 retro modern.
-
It's a healthy balance and it depends on the game.
I'd say my most played would be PS4 and Game Boy.
It used to be mostly Vita.
-
I don't prefer one over the other, I like both and there are days that I feel like playing some good old games and other days I feel like playing the newest titles.

I play it all really. I am more so a fan of retro than anything else. However, I do enjoy modern gaming too a lot. I do not own a XboxOne, a PS4, or a switch. I do most of my modern gaming on PC now of days. I'm not interested enough to go out and buy a XboxOne or a PS4 right now for only a few games that I might play. So I rather wait till later to buy the console when it's cheaper. However, I am greatly interested in the Switch though. I plan on getting one of them sometime in the near future.
For Retro my favorite console has to be the SNES, then the PS2 right after. I actively collect games retro games for NES, SNES, PS1, and PS2. I will go out of my way to grow my collection for these. I also collect Japanese game too for these systems. I have a "modded" SNES Jr that i play Japanese games on. I do collect for other consoles such as sega, n64, gamecube but i don't go out of my way for these games though. If i happen to see games or something i will pick it up if it's not too much. Im hoping one day that i will run into a 3DO, Intellivision, or other consoles that weren't big in the mainstream as others where.
-
Since my first console ever was a Gamecube I pretty much only own or play games that were made from the Gamecube onward, with a few exceptions like Pac-Man and special cases like Sonic Mega Collection which is comprised of exclusively classic Sonic Games. I just can't push myself to play most games that are older than the Gamecube era because of graphical differences and most older games just do not interest me at all.
-
For the most part, it's 'modern.' I don't fall under a console generation umbrella though since I'm primarily a PC gamer. I do play a DS/3DS from time to time for my Nintendo fixes.
I do go back and play old favorites every year though. Still can't get enough 16-bit. :P
-
I usually do both at the same time. I play games on my PS4 and I will be playing a retro game as well. It usually takes longer for me to finish retro games these days (rpgs mainly) because I don't play them that often as modern games.
Like now I just finished Watch Dogs 2 and I'm also playing Chrono Cross (again).
-
I play both, it just really depends on my mood at the time :)
-
I'm across the board. The oldest game I've beat this year is from 1989, and the newest from 2017. Last year I beat a game from 1978 (Beneath Apple Manor). I find merit in all ages of gaming, each epoch has its own strengths and weaknesses.
