Title: Have you ever achieved a full set for a console? Do you think you ever will?
Post by: marvelvscapcom2 on May 15, 2017, 07:16:10 pm
This thread is for everyone to share their accomplished full console sets if they have any or to share their journey to a full set they are working on.  :D

Recently i have decided to pull all my buying and seeking into going for a full NA Wii U set.  It doesn't seem quite as daunting as a SNES full set because it only has a little over 150 games after upcoming releases for physical north american games excluding E shop ect...   Most of which are fairly affordable aside from the few odd ball games.   I really love the mystique of Wii U and it may be my favorite console in recent memory.  I love how the blue cases look when in uniform stacks as well :D.

Has anyone ever achieved a full set of every video game for a certain console?  :)

Not really cause I only purchase what I want to play, don't expect to achieve a full set of games that I won't gonna play damn still have some digital ones that I haven't started and really don't know when am going to play them  ;D

Even if I was financially capable of doing so, I wouldn't see it as my personal collection anymore.  There are at least some rubbish games on each platform, I have no intention of purchasing or keeping them on my shelf.

I collect to many other things too (huge geek all the way around), to spend money on games I have no intention of ever playing. So no.

That's money I could have spent on more comics, movies, or CDs.

No way, I only collect games I intend to play. Not to mention there is a ton of trash filling a lot of game libraries.

Only one console so far and that's the Wii U for me as well. Not there yet, and it's already becoming difficult because a few games are already quite expensive. Not to mention there are probably 7 or 8 Just Dance games to pick up.

Not 100% certain I will fulfill the goal in the end. Despite having a small library, to me a full set of games starts to feel like a big pile of crap on the shelf rather than my collection fairly quickly.

I haven't and I'm pretty sure I never will, nor plan to do so. It's a very long and expensive endeavor. I only want games I know that I would want to play.

I am currently 2 games away from completing my original Xbox collection. Only need IHRA Drag Racing Sportsmen Edition and the Real World Golf bundle. Got my eyes on a RWG Bundle on ebay I plan to buy 1st thing next month. IHRA is proving to be difficult though.

Edit: Posted before I read some of the other replies. For the record, I've got 862 of 864 Xbox games plus a few variants/demos(Fable: The Lost Chapters for example). I would say that I was able to obtain almost all of them for an average of $4 per game or less. I bought a bulk of the sports titles I needed from a retro store who was happy to clear some of that crap off their shelf for $1 each, and bought around 200-300 of them off a resale shop at 10 for $20 over the course of a year or so. Even the last 100 I needed were mostly simple to get cheap with a bit of patience. Got my copy of Call of Cthulu for $20, Teen Titans for $40, Futurama for $30(tho need a box & booklet still), and my copy of Jurassic Park Operation Genesis was only $45. Same deal with Outrun 2006, got it out of a wholesale lot that only cost me $55 and had 25 games total, 17 of which I still needed.

The basic moral of this story is that you can basically find every game you need for a specific collection if you're patient and persistent. As for the WiiU games, I'd make friends with the employees at any gamestop w/in 50 miles and see if you can't get their help locating games for you. GS will eventually clear out old stock and you can probably get a lot of the ones you'll need for a significant discount. Just my 2 cents...

I'm trying my hardest right now!

My main goal for my collection is a complete North American Xbox 360 retail collection. At just over 1,200 games, it's certainly a daunting task, but I do feel as if I've gotten over the critical hump. Once my next package comes in, I'll be hitting the 700 game milestone. It's a long road ahead of me, but I wouldn't consider it unfeasible as outside of around a dozen or so titles, I can find most everything for relatively cheap. The biggest obstacles are more just the sheer size of it all plus I like to get stuff for my other collections (board and card games as well as vintage Star Trek toys).

There are at least some rubbish games on each platform, I have no intention of purchasing or keeping them on my shelf.
To me, that's part of the fun. I get a kick out of having games like Hannah Montana or Pimp My Ride in my collection. And when me and my buddies have game nights, we like to occasionally pop one it just to razz it, so more MST3K and less AVGN. It's also funny to picture someone giving a detailed look at my gamertag and going "This man's 100% completed Barbie Puppy Rescue, but didn't bother to finish Bioshock? Wtf?"

No offense to anyone currently going for a full set or that has a full set, but I always thought completionist collecting was a huge waste of money. I believe every console has at least a few good games, but every console also has a lot of crap, usually the majority of the library actually. People who feel the need to collect all these crap titles, even if they only cost a buck are two are throwing away money on something that is likely not desired at all, certainly not good, and in combination with buying other crappy games, could have saved money to get something actually worth getting. However, with all that said, I have off and on considered going for a full Dreamcast collection, mostly because 1) I LOVE the Dreamcast and 2) I am already have over half the US library. But as soon as I see a cheap copy of NFL2K or some other lame sports title I quickly realize how dumb it would be to spend any money on such titles. I collect games I want to play, and there are too many games that I would never have any interest in playing to go for a full set on any console.

I have a full set of every video game for the Tele-Fever console. https://vgcollect.com/item/45114 This console has only 4 games under their own Tele-Fever brand. I have them complete with manuals and boxes. They are really rare and hard to find, because that system was sold in a short period of time - about two weeks on a special promotional sale.

There's too much junk in most system libraries for me to want a complete set. I love that other people do it for archival purposes, but I have no interest.

Having said that, it's not totally outside the realm of possibility that I will someday have a complete run- but only because I have some systems with horrifically tiny libraries. I mean, when 30 games or less will do the job, it doesn't hurt to consider it.

realisticly Maybe for the neo geo pocket.

As far as completionist goes If you have a full library of neo geo aes or neo geo cd there are barely any trash titles around in those libraries pretty much non existent even the sport titles are great.

Only A few gambling titles wich are trash.

I have 99.85% of a licensed NES set.  All but Stadium Events.

I'll probably go for a full Virtual Boy set.  That seems like fun.

I have a full North American (US + Canadian) SMS set including all the complete accessories, all games complete, and the entire demo set. Im also working on a CIB PS4 set with all controllers ... and maybe all the limited consoles.

The thing with complete sets is that its not specifically about just not buying the games you dont like. Its about the whole package. Do you think I felt dirty when I bought 2 different farming simulator games? Hell yeah I did. I couldnt even look at myself in the mirror. But supporting your system means taking the bad with the good. And that wall of blue looks beautiful across from that sexy wall of white with black grid.

I've been kicking around the idea of going for a full Saturn set. The PlayStation 2 is my favorite console of all time, but its library is insane. The Sega Saturn is a close second because I feel like it's underappreciated and full of potential. Lately, whenever I'm out and about, I see if there are any Saturn titles that I never played for sale.

It's been really fun so far. There are some games that I never even heard of until now that I've been able to enjoy like Battle Monsters, Mr. Bones, and The Legend of Oasis.

The only thing that's making me hesitant from committing 100% to this idea is the fact that nearly every game is pricy. Most of the big hurdles have been overcome thanks to gifts from birthdays, valentine's day, anniversaries, etc. but there are still a few titles that will break the bank. But, I do want to play said titles.

We'll see what happens!

I have a lot my online friends go after full sets; I find it dumb. Sure, my backlog may never be played; however, I only buy that which I would play. I have no need for seven Maddens or shovelware, unless it's fun shovelware. If I ever planned on doing it, it would probably be for the Switch, but I don't even own that yet.

That is not something I would want to attempt in 2017. Saturn game prices are stupid high right now. Even the low commons are going for $30 a piece, let alone the pricey shoot-em ups and RPGs.

I think the easiest set to achieve would be for the N64. However, as I usually don't care that much for Nintendo stuff (and because the N64 is, perhaps, the least favorite console in my collection), I don't think I will ever try going for a full set of it.

On the other hand, I would love to have a complete set of any Sega console. Although some rare games can be pretty expensive, I believe that the Japanese versions of the Saturn, DreamCast and Game Gear are all affordable; but unfortunatelly I don't think I will have the time/money to achieve a complete of any of these anytime soon...

What about systems with minuscule game libraries? Like the Sega 32X or Nintendo Virtual Boy? IIRC, the 32X has around 30, and the Virtual Boy around 20.

The problem with the Virtual Boy is that there are two titles that show no sign of ever going down in price. Last time I checked, they were in the 300 range.

Waterworld is usually a good couple of hundred bucks.

Jack Bros. has gone for up to 400 dollars. I blame that Atlus logo. The good thing about Jack Bros. is that it can be imported.

N64 is the only console I've considered going for a complete set.  I think I'm about 50 games off from being done and it's mostly sports games left.  I agree with the sentiment that it's useless to pay money for shitty sports games just to buff the set... but when you get them for free or like $1, it really doesn't hurt.

Sure, you are absolutelly right.
There are also other systems with smaller libraries then the N64 such as the Pioneer LaserActive, the Nokia N-Gage and even the Wii U. However, I still believe that when taking into consideration the current price of the games (at least here in Japan) together with the quality of the releases, the N64 is still the most reasonable full set to pursue (and this is coming a Sega fanboy who has very little affection for Nintendo consoles as a whole and even less for the one that I am "defending" here, haha).

Well, today I drove for two hours to a far away Walmart just to pick up the "hard to find" Mario & Sonic 2014 Winter Olympics bundle set. Turns out it was marked down to half MSRP. I felt like that was a sign that I should continue my goal after all. Snagged up another copy of Gianna Sisters just because it was $7, then found another title I needed out that way. A few more strokes of luck and I just might feel right about doing it.

full set for a console is really hard for a normal player.

World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. playermall (https://www.playermall.com) is no.1 world of warcraft marketplace. It is the fourth released game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, which was first introduced by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994.

I've toyed with the idea of going for a complete 3DS set. Currently I think there are around 500 games physically in the set. I have most of the rare and uncommon games already, so it would mostly be going for the random commons while the system is still actively available in stores. Problem is my collection already takes up a ton of space. Adding hundreds of 3DS games isn't going to help.  :P

I collect to play but the only set I want to complete is my Sega Dreamcast (NA) I had all of the games many years ago. Until I had a falling out with an ex bout 8 years ago and she threw it all away. In the last few years I've really been buckling down and starting to pick up the games again for that system. I'm about half way there now.

I'm 6 games away from complete n64 set, almost have a complete Xbox 360 set missing about 50 games.Need less than 100 to complete NES set. I understand that some people only collect games they want to play thats cool I respect that. But for me I like more than just the gameplay. Its the act of finding games because I wont buy games online.Mostly its the artwork even if a game sucks I can find somthing to like about it.I have the space and passion for it so why not? I could spend my hard earnd money on worse imo.

I know have a complete us 32x collection. Just acquired Spider-Man. Not sure if that counts as it is an add on. But I am slowly going for all the sega console complete sets. I figure I have my whole life to work on it. Collecting is its own activity. Even buying only the best games, I will get more games than I play. I mean I've accidentally gotten too many in steam just from sales.

I I enjoy going for a complete set.

Finished my Xbox collection this past weekend... Looking to go for complete sets on the Atari 7800, Magnavox Odyssey 2, Sega Dreamcast and PlayStation Portable next. The 7800 and Odyssey 2 will be relatively easy to get, very small libraries. Dreamcast is my next 'challenge'.

The only systems I have a complete are...
- Microvision
- Tomy Tutor
- Nintendo Virtual Boy
- Sega Dreamcast

I am only missing one game for in my opinion for a conplete NES set. Stadium Events in my opinion is not needed for a complete unless you're going for an all variation collection.
It's the same game as World Class Track Meet. Same game just a different title. To me a complete set is one of every game not one of every variant.

It has a different title screen.  That's the kicker.  Same way that Punch-Out!! and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! are different games.
I wish I didn't need that for a complete set; but unfortunately, it is a different game.

never achieved it currently aiming for the complete EXTENDED vita set

I have a few good reasons to pick vita

verry little shovelware
not too many games so doible

and its a sort of a goodbye to me to gaming because as it stands now after the vita dies I have to quit gaming at least new games.

no interest in the ps4

I rather shoot myself then get an x-box one and the switch in my book is just as bad as the wiiu and wii.

and why I hate them because of the controlls and the tablet controller.

but things like dlc download only games and payed online ruin it for me.

so unless the 3ds gets a succesor with free online I wont buy new systems or games anymore.

sure I cna still do retro games when I compelte my vita ste but the way prices for retro games are going now thats probatly not gonna happen either.

Personally this concept never ever crossed my mind until I started watching people on YouTube talking about it or showing their collections.

Not my cup of tea, quite frankly. For once, I like to buy games that I know I will play; I can't marry to the notion of buying a game simply to, essentially, keep as shelf candy (with specific exceptions, of course). The other reason is space - it's quite the luxury and I can't waste any of it. However, if I were to toy with the idea of ever achieving a complete collection, it would probably be for the Game Boy handhelds, and cartridge only. But in all honesty, not in the cards for me.

I will admit that it looks rad when someone showcases a complete collection, especially one that's been well-kept.

I gave up doing this for the Wii U. It quickly reached a point where the junkiest crap games you could dredge up became like $500 worth, and I just couldn't luck into any of them. I don't even care now. It was a stupid idea.

Is Hello Kitty the only one that's prohibiting you from getting all of them?
Turbo Super Stunt Squad and The Croods as well I'm sure.

So many shepards profiting from the those lost stray sheep who have this collecting itch ::)

These are the things  that show It's more about the item and monetary value than this hobby for some people, there is no solid reason to grab these even if they had reasonable prices while being rare.

It's all a numbers and value game for most people trying to get a good deal even though the games are just shelf candy them content being trash. Deep inside I'm laughing that people pay good money for not even old but new rare bad games  ;D

Not a goal personally. If it happens some day, awesome. I won't lose any sleep if not.
If it was just a matter of tracking down all the games, it would be something I might consider. But every system seems to have it's own equivalent of a $500 "Mary Kate & Ashley: Watching Paint Dry 101" game. So I'm not going to worry about it.

It's just stupid to go for a complete set. You buy so many games you don't even care about and I don't care what anyone thinks, it does not look good on the shelf to see that. I never wanted any Wii U games for the rarity, I just thought a small library was doable and it would be like paying some kind of homage to the Wii U. Well, that's idiotic, it just makes me realize it too was tainted with a bunch of crap. I won't attempt to do it again. Ironically, there are still a few I still want and never managed to get because I was too busy picking up Monster High and other crap.

You pretty much realized the cold truth by basically hitting rock bottom.

Its not "stupid" to go for a complete set. With that being said, its most definitely not for everyone. It takes extreme dedication to a system and a pretty fat wallet to do so. Ive sacrificed a lot to be able to do what I do. But in the end, I fully support my PS4 and will continue to work towards that full wall of beautiful blue cases.

Yeah, seeing the wall of games is certainly a good driving point for me as well, seeing it expand and gaps filling in one by one. Even the games I don't care much for like Madden or Fifa give off a sense of satisfaction when I look at their near-complete blocks. And I do fully intend to play everything eventually, even the crappy ones, as they provide a good experience in their own bizarre way (Except Farming Simulator. That game was pure ass). And with around a little over a third of the games actually played, and half that 100% completed (or close to), I'd think I'm doing my library justice.

I will have to admit however, that a wall of Xbox One games looks like shit. Why they went from unique spines to a constant pencil-lead gray, I have no idea. Helps keep my focus on the 360 though.

I personally would never go for a full set, but I can definitely see why some people do it.

If I stumble upon the other 2 expensive Wii U games for cheap like I just did with Turbo, I might decide to go for a full set for the Wii U.

I'm currently going for a full set for the N64 and I'm down to the last 60 or so games and probably 40-50 of those are cheap sports games.

I'm not a big enough nerd / rich enough to do something like that.
