Title: Display Shelf Ideas?
Post by: athmaus on June 20, 2017, 01:55:52 pm
I just finished making my gaming entertainment console with my father-in-law last week.  I finish putting in all the consoles, just a few more tweaks left till i can take some pictures.

Next on the docket is a way to display all the handheld devices i have.  Do you have any recommendations, as i would like to find something more "off the shelf" then have to build it like i did with the gaming console.

It will hold these 11 portable gaming consoles.  So far haven't really seen anything online that looks good most are to bulky.  My wife had an idea for more of a "shadow box" like concept but haven't seen anything that could fit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you looking for a stand for these? If so you might find the stands they sell at Rose Colored Gaming to your liking. Just recently saw them on Metal Jesus Rocks gaming room tour on youtube, might get one or two of these for my room.

I do like the stands but i was looking more for an idea on what to make (or if something you can buy out of box or customize IKEA) to create a shelf or stand to display the systems.

Thanks for reminding me of this site. I think it was a Metal Jesus Rocks video that he mentioned these awesome additions to a collection room. My man-room is now the nursery, but in the near future, I'll have a new room built and this site will get a lot of money from me for my consoles, displays, and games.

Yeah, those guys get stuff sent to them ALL the time. His big box copy of Earthbound was gifted to him by some fan. I'm happy with my meager 280+ games at this time. One day I might own an entire collection, but that won't be for a long time!

I enjoy the Immortal John Hancock. His collection is insane. I'd like to have a beer with him and talk video games.

That Sealed Super C for PC is another $1000 game he got gifted to him. I don't get it, I can't even get $1 on patreon to support my site and he's getting $1000 games just for making a few videos. lol

I can't cry about Suikoden II too much, I got my copy for around $50 by piecing it together. got the manual and disc for $50, then bought case & manual for $25 and sold the manual for the same price lol.

I don't suppose anyone knows of any UK-based sites like this? I'd love to have these sorts of stands but I really don't want to pay/wait for imports.

I made a video several years ago showing an inexpensive stand.  It's not as nice as the rose colored stands, but if you don't find a local alternative, it might be worth a shot to you.

I use business card stands. They work great for all of my GB/GBC/GBA, DS's and PSP, and they're like $1 US. You would need something to tier them, but that's the easy part.

After weighing the cost of having to buy 20 of those controller stands, I decided to go another route. I can take the $200 and build me another entire wall unit to house my PS4 stuff.

I bought some shelves from Target and a couple of drawers and shelves from Amazon.  They were pretty cheap and all had a similar look.  I also bought a number of those hand held stands from Rosecolored gaming.  I then created a tiered insert out of cardboard and just spray painted it to put on one of the shelves.  It didn't cost much, but came out nice enough for me.  I'll post pics on my thread when I get some free time.

Good luck with your project.  Show us how it came out!

Well, its done. Pics are imminent! And I have to say, I love my controller display more than any other idea/option I have seen out there.

First off is the change to my "wall". Since I had to move all the controllers out and off the shelves, I wanted to put other stuff on the shelves. I repositioned the shelves to fit my ps1/soundtracks and it allowed me to fit my whole freak series together and even room for the PSX.
(http://i1261.photobucket.com/albums/ii584/DWcollector/The%20game%20cave/20170717_155823_zpsu3arwnp8.jpg) (http://s1261.photobucket.com/user/DWcollector/media/The%20game%20cave/20170717_155823_zpsu3arwnp8.jpg.html)

Next is my PS4 area. I added shelves above the stands to hold all my consoles. The game shelves are at a full 480 games now. Closing in on that big 500.

Finally my controller display. I acquired this weird piece of steel a while back orginally to make a controller display out of it. I finally figured out how to do it. I even have one more holder for when I get my DQ XI controller.

It means that the photos were removed from photobucket's website, likely by photobucket themselves as they recently changed a lot of their hosting services.

I think Photbucket is a paid service now, at least for hosting images.

Free photobucket accounts have a limited bandwidth, so once an image has been downloaded/viewed so many times the file is no longer available.

How the mighty have fallen.

First ImageShack when it forced the subscription/premium/whatever crap, and now Photobucket.

Here's hoping the best for the alternatives we currently have.

Anyway, sorry for the deviation. Carry on.

Dude, thank you so much for that link.  That solves a problem that will come up once I get all my display shelves up and such.  Displaying my original first run GameBoy and some controllers will be epic!  I also asked them if they could do me a Panasonic 3DO brand display sign as well.  There are a few of us 3DO enthusiasts floating around...   8)

Their stuff is eye catching for sure.  I found out they are less than an hour from me.  I got a chance to chat with Chris at a local gaming convention a couple of weeks ago.  I brought him some old hand held Mattel sports games and he said he'd make some stands for me since they didn't carry them already.  Cool dude.
