I pretty much collect anything that is affordable and I collect what I like. I own a bunch of consoles but not any of the Atari or Colecovision or Intellivision or so called dead 1980's companies and definitely not an Atari Jaguar. although I only own 1 Sega console. that is a Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive 2. I used to own a perfectly good Sega Saturn I got for free from trading in some unused things at a thrift shop in the middle of nowhere. I sold it when my vary old PS2 broke. :'(
-
I used to be all over the place. But money is only so limited so buying for multiple consoles is more difficult. I have 3 collections. Sega master (complete), PS1 RPGs (Thought I was complete til last night and going over my stuff), PS4 (definitely not complete ... yet).
-
I used to buy everything I saw. Then, several things happened. I ran out of room, stuff got really expensive, and The Great Divorce of 2015 relieved me of lots of stuff. Now, I'm way more selective about what I buy.
-
I buy whatever suits my fancy. Back when games were easier to acquire I was buying everything and anything that could be acquired for dirt cheap. Now there is too much competition and too many resellers, so I pretty much just buy what I know I want to play and what few things I can find for cheap.
I'm also at that place where I'm out of room and I need to cut back on expenses. I currently have about 4 3' shelves of free space, after that I just don't know what to do. But luckily I don't foresee any retro purchases needing to be made after I acquire the rest of my wishlist... which I have room for.

I was everything, but recently I've decided to mainly go after PC and Sega Genesis.
-
For me, it's the Nintendo and Microsoft consoles, with a core focus on the Xbox 360.
With stuff from the other companies like Sony, Sega, Atari, and so on, I never really grew up with the systems, so there's little drive to get them as well.
-
I grew up with an Atari 2600 and right now I'm mainly focused on collecting for the Atari 2600 and 7800. That said, I will pick up interesting games other systems I own when I come across them. I'm just not actively in the hunt at the moment for games on other systems.
-
My collection is mostly Sony, with the Vita being the largest of the platforms. I play mostly JRPGs, so my picks tend to lean more towards that genre. I doubt I'll ever own a complete collection, but I'd like to have at least 100 select games per platform (PSP/VITA/PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4).

I knew there was someone with the exact collecting focus as myself. :o 8)

Anything that interests me I will seek out. Though there are many consoles that I never plan to own or have any interest in, thus will not collect for them. I am mostly Nintendo/Sony though, having a good PC as well really gives me no reason to even own an Xbone at this point. I did like the 360 and OG Xbox though, some great games in those libraries.
-
Multiple companies.
If a console has a decent library of games I want to play, then I'm interested.
But I'm not one that's looking to collect all consoles. If it only has 5 games, or only crappy games, I'll pass. And generally, I can't seem to get into any pre-NES consoles besides the Commodore 64 (which had more in-depth games than your average pre-NES arcade-centric consoles.)

I like that you quoted the wrong person.
I reallllllllly like it.

I collect everything I can get a good deal on
-
In the past I collected games I enjoyed, that were primarily exclusive to the systems I owned.
These days, I'm focused on 1-2 specific consoles targeting games I've missed out playing that interest me.
NEC PC Engine and Sega Mega Drive (including accessories, and peripherals)

For me, I mainly collect for Playstation. PS1 was my first system growing up and PS2 was the first system I ever collected for so those are my two priorities. All other systems are secondary but I do have an extensive PS3, Vita, PSP and even PS4 collection as well. Recently, I have started delving into Nintendo, specifically the NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube. With these systems, I'm more focused on just getting the heavy hitters I want to play instead of going after everything. With an exception of a few titles, it hasn't been that expensive either, I've been able to find a lot of below market deals in my area. I also recently started a Dreamcast collection, a gift from my brother who decided to downsize his collection and focus on PC gaming.
I am also running out of room in my house and there are only so many ways I can reorganize to fit everything I own. So expanding into other systems I am interested in like GBC and GBA, Genesis, Saturn, Sega CD, TG 16, and maybe others will have to wait until I can upgrade my living situation.

I collect for multiple consoles, only games that I want to play. Except for pre-nes era games or crappy handhelds.
-
I mostly collect games and accessories that I wanted to have as child and as a teenager, but didn't have the money to buy.
Apart from that, I also like to collect anything I find interesting (either for being rare, or for being bad haha).
My favorite consoles to collect for are the PC Engine and any of the Sega ones. I usually do not activelly search for any Nintendo stuff, but if I can find good stuff for cheap, why not?
-
I collect from different companies. The way I collect is I only get games that I know I will like. I don't go for full sets or anything because I don't have enough money to buy games that I will never play. Also what I like in video games is how every consoles has their exclusive games, and I'd rather have a lot of consoles with only a few great games for them than a lot of "useless" game for only 2 or 3 consoles.
-
I collect for most systems but I have a very tight budget so I try to get the most bang for my buck. But I always after Dreamcast games I don't own or handheld games always a sucker for a handheld game or system.
-
:) well I collect video games period. I have over 1,000 only thing is my digital collection on VGcollect is far behind.
I go to a place where used games don't cost that much and they are in great condition. I am not rich but I have a local flea market.
I love collecting compilations. in fact I like compilations more than individual copies because most have other ways of playing them for example Mega Man Anniversary collection lets you save your game and change difficulty and life setting on all the Mega Man Original series plus 2 games only released in Japan prior to the series. Although I never play Mega Man X Collection yet in which includes all the Mega Man X games plus some newer ones also.
-
Primarily Nintendo and Sega, but yeah most mainstream consoles I have at some point built a collection of.

Lol no I didnt. I left off a word "Opposite". LMAO. Didnt even realize it til I just read it.
-
I use to kinda just grab whatever, trying to get stuff I use to have, but then I mostly just moved to some Nintendo 64 and Zelda stuff. I recently cleared out much of my Zelda stuff, but if I get back into it, it'll mostly just be collecting for those.
-
I have a variety of consoles but i focus only on one at a time. Some days i will go to flea markets in a PS2 mood looking for PS2 titles and just spend on that for a few months, some times it will be Wii U or GameCube. I will only buy random stuff if it's dirt cheap but i usually have one console that i am liking at the moment.
I would say i am a Nintendo fanboy but i also collect a lot for Sony. But Nintendo releases and produced the most "i gotta have it" games out of all the companies for me. :)

sega

I have become more and more selective the longer I've been collecting. When I started I would have collected anything NES and newer, but now I tend to only focus on consoles I really care about. However, to be honest, I do not collect anything right now. Such is the reality of downsizing.
-
I "collect" for multiple consoles but only those titles that really want to have at my collection and that am going to play, used to have everything in physical format but since the Xbox 360 and some cool offers that Microsoft had and still has decided to add to my stuff some digital releases but if I have to say that am dedicated just to one company have to say that Nintendo is my choice followed by Microsoft ;D
-
I usually like to collect for franchises that I enjoy. I also really like collecting for the PlayStation 2 (my favorite console) and the Sega Saturn.
-
I pretty much strictly collect Nintendo games and more specifically Gamecube games. Hopefully Nintendo brings Gamecube games to the Switch, because collecting for the Gamecube is a bitch. Pretty much any well known/"hidden gem" games are usually minimum $35+ and can get up in to the hundreds depending on where you look online.
-
I do primarily Nintendo because thats what I stuck with growing up. I do have a 2600 and a PS1 with a few games for each. I've tried to branch out further to Lynx and Genesis/Mega Drive but ended up selling them off after a couple years.

Now that I think about I'm more in line with what Kash said as well. More often than not it's collecting for specific franchises or Developers over specific consoles.
-
If I like it, I'll buy it, doesn't matter the company or franchise. It's not in my plans to own every console ever made, though, so I only collect for the consoles I have. I would definitely like to get an Xbox 360 since it has some good exclusives, and maybe a Wii U down the line, but I'm not actively looking for them. As far as "next" gen goes, I plan on getting a PS4 and probably a Switch, but not really anytime soon. I mean, I just "recently" got a PS3, so who knows when I'll get either of them.
-
I collect for all systems as long as the price is right.
