I'm heading to Retropalooza in Arlington, TX this weekend. I love
I've been considering jumping off into more Famicom games. Do y'all have any recommendations for me? I can't read Japanese.
My short list is Wai Wai World 1&2, Star Wars, and Saiyuuki World (Whomp 'Em in the US). That's all I have so far.
I have a few in my collection already.
Kid Dracula
Parodius Da!
The Goonies
Devil World
Booby Kids (hehehe)

I like the game moon crystal. I played it as a rom awhile back. But it's pretty expensive on ebay.

Battle City (https://vgcollect.com/item/52370) - Digdug and Combat had a baby .
Crisis Force (https://vgcollect.com/item/16381) - BEST 8-bit shmup period. Somewhat pricey.
King Kong 2 (https://vgcollect.com/item/37450) - Konami top-down beat'em up.
Quarth (https://vgcollect.com/item/57696) - Better visuals and music over the GB counterpart released over here.
Sky Destroyer (https://vgcollect.com/item/39751) - Taito shmup where you play as a Zero pilot shooting at, presumably, American planes. It's like a slower Afterburner.
Yume Penguin Monogatari (https://vgcollect.com/item/18871) - Fantastically Japanese platformer by Konami. Also features shump stages.
Super Mario Bros. 3 (https://vgcollect.com/item/23254) - Subtle differences in level design make some levels tricky, and taking damage automatically bumps you down to small Mario. Overall harder than international release.
Ganbare Goemon series - Known in the west as Mystic Ninja
Disk System Games:
Vs. Excite Bike (https://vgcollect.com/item/26658) - A port of the arcade version to FDS.
Mysterious Murasame Castle (https://vgcollect.com/item/42500) - Basically a more linear and action based version of Zelda. Only recently got western release on VC.
Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race (https://vgcollect.com/item/42169) - Similar to R.C. Pro-Am

Of course there are much more great exclusives released for this platform in Japan, but since I'm not a huge Nintendo collector, of the ones that I own, I would say that the original Super Mario Bros. 2, Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti and Magical Taluluto-kun are pretty good games.
For the Famicom Disk System, I will point out Koneko Monogatari and my favorite FC/FDS game of all, Ai Senshi Nicol.
