Title: Favorite Castlevania game?
Post by: kypherion on October 30, 2018, 12:06:30 pm
Overall I would say Symphony of the Night because of the RPG elements along the Metroidvania formula combined with playing as someone else other than a Belmont.

Also cheesy voice acting.

Classic: Rondo of Blood

Igavania: Symphony of the Night

Symphony of the Night, and it's not even a contest, for me.

Great presentation, great soundtrack, addicting Metroidvania gameplay, and cool sprite-graphics.

The Metroidvania sequels on GBA and DS are great, too, but SotN is the best of the bunch.

Symphony of the Night is number one. Lament of Innocence and Harmony of Dissonance are slightly below.

Great series.

I haven't played a ton, but this is how I'd rank them:

1. Lords of Shadow
2. Bloodlines
3. Symphony of the Night
4. Castlevania III
5. Castlevania
6. Portrait of Ruin
7. Lords of Shadow II
8. Castlevania 64

"What is a man...? A miserable little pile of secrets! But enough talk! Have at you!"

Hands down the best, doesn't get any better than Symphony.

Out of what I've played I'd say Rondo of Blood.

Symphony of the night is my favourite with harmony of dissonance on gba being a close second since it was that game that introduced me to the castlevania series as a whole when I was just a beginner and stumbled across this game by chance when cheap gba deals where plentyfull. I actually wanted to get rid of it since even for a lose cart trade in value was pretty high 20 - 30 bucks many years ago but when I decided to give the game a shot I chanced my mind I imagined castlevania was a crappy series back than and knew nothing about it.

Portrain of ruin is my third favourite as far as metroidvania games go.

As far as classic castlevania games go I'd give castlevania the new generation the win while I will say that moon walking with holy man music on super castlevania IV ain't to bad either

@bikinhatjuty

Is lords of shadow on ps3/xbox 360 that great?, Pretty unexpected as far as a fouvorites in the castlevania franchise goes but than again maybe in terms of visualising how castlevania might look like in somewhat real life i could see some reason to like it.

Particular favorites include Rondo of Blood, SotN, Harmony of Dissonance, Bloodlines, Super Castlevania IV and the original 3 on NES. I didn't put much time into the PS2/PS3/N64/Gboy releases. GBA/DS releases I put a little more time into but the only one I beat completely was Harmony of Dissonance.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon!

I actually haven't played a proper Castlevania game lol I've dabbled in the NES ones in the past, but that is it.  I'm looking forward to Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night one of these days whenever I grab the PS4 release. I'm hopeful they are gonna do another Castelvania Legacy Collection bundle for the NES/SNES ones.  I'd like to play more of them before Bloodstained.

OG Castlevania for the NES. I’ve spent the most time with it. That’s probably why it’s my favorite.

Symphony of the Night. It’s in my personal top 10 games ever.

Close behind are CV III and Super CV IV.

The NES and SNES Classics are good ways to get 1,2 and 4 along with some other extra goodies if you are interested in that sort of thing.

Like so many others, my answer is probably Symphony of the Night.  I just played it for the first time last year, and I was just straight up blown away.  And that is someone who loves the original game - and all the other classic style ones, really.

The Classics are neat novelties, but I'd rather have the games on a proper console.  I'm sure they'll get released eventually on something else, but I'm in no rush for that right now.  At least Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood are out to play on PS4.

Konami really needs to do some sort of Castlevania compilation. Even if it was broken up into volumes I'd buy it. I just want these games released physically in some form again for home consoles.

I'm kind of hoping that Castlevania Requiem will get a physical release on the PS4 soon.

I think Super Castlevania IV is my favorite. I liked the visual and audio effects that were new at the time (rotating environments, echo effects etc). The slow down didn’t take away my enjoyment of this SNES game.

I watched an hour long video on the CV series yesterday, and I was pretty surprised at how solid most of the entries are.  The only one that was received super poorly was that fighting game.  Even stuff that hasn't aged well, like Castlevania 64, got good reviews at the time.  I'm thinking this might be my next full series playthrough.
