Title: Personally, still the best game franchise from the Nes days.
Post by: theretrovoyager on March 02, 2019, 06:21:13 pm
I have been playing video games since I was 3 years old. 30 years later, I'm still playing them, but the best game franchise I've ever had the honor of playing is still Mega Man. It is by far my favourite games to play and I even started a YouTube channel of me playing a bunch of the classic games from those days. My Mega Man Mondays (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhPIVXu1pLtlbZsPSzvV2uRXWXFGfhWu1) is honestly the best series I have going at the moment and I'm glad it is. My plan is to play through every Mega Man game I can get my hands on :)

I really had a lot of fun with Mega Man 2, it was so challenging but so worth beating it but I can't help but wish I started with 1.  2 was the best and the others never felt as good for me.  But 2 stands as probably top 5 NES games of all time for me :)

so which do you prefer? do you use the original NES and SNES Cartridges? or do you play emulation games like

"Mega Man Anniversary Collection?" (10 different Mega Man games on one disc) for Xbox? or GameCube? Or PlayStation 2?

and/or "Mega Man X Collection?" (7 more Mega Man games on another one disc compilation) for the PlayStation 2? or GameCube?

Mega Man 3 was the one that started my Mega Man love. Mega Man 5 was the second game I got. I love all of them though. I loved how they introduced new concepts into each new one that came out, instead of keeping it 100% the same game over and over again.

Honestly, I would definitely prefer using the original cartridges and CD's for the games I play. Unfortunately though, I have to use emulators for the games I play. I would love to get the Legacy Collections for Mega Man and Mega Man X, but I doubt my PC can handle those and recording them at the same time. I have a shit PC, lol!

I've never delved that far into the original Mega Man games. My first Mega Man was X on the SNES, and going back to the originals was had when I was younger since all I wanted to do was play X some more lol. Now that i'm older I have more appreciation for the originals, I just need to actually go back and play them :p

Ah Mega Man. I have the NES originals but I have been playing it on the PS4 collection.  I spent some time over a few weeks playing from MM1 to MM5 and took a break before heading into MM6.  I've never been one for collecting virtual trophies or achievements but it satisfying to see a tiny bit of recognition on my PS profile for beating MM games.  Additionally the bonus content in the first legacy collection is pretty decent although sadly the 2nd collection is very lacking.  On Legacy One Collection there is a boss run where you rush through all the robot masters from MM1-MM6 in one go.  Thats pretty awesome!

You really should give them a shot. Just know that Mega Man 1 is honestly the most difficult of them all. From 2 - 5 I've finished countless times in my life. But Mega Man 1? I've finished maybe twice. lol!

I would absolutely love to have those, but they are stupid expensive for me. I mainly want them, because the second one goes up to Mega Man 10, I believe. And then there's the Mega Man X legacy collection as well.

You sound a lot like me, same age & favorite franchise! the only MM series I haven't played are the Battle Network /Rockman.EXE.

Never was a big fan of the original Mega Man games.  I played MM2 I believe, but once I found Mega Man X, that was basically what Mega Man was for me...and then Legends came out and I fell in love with that, so like original Mega Man is basically third tier Mega Man for me lol

Never liked Mega Man to be honest. The difficultly, the level design, the repetitive boss battles, and the absolutely dreadful art style and generic character design. I'm slowly beginning to notice a pattern that I'm not a big fan of most Capcom franchises. Yeah, it was a shock to me as well, but it's true. I don't know what it is about them. Like another big one that seems to repulse me on every level is Resident Evil.

I can understand why those things could be pretty alienating or unappealing.

Oh hell yeah, the Battle Network games are definitely on my games to play for my Mega Man Monday series. But they are very long games, so I might have other Mega Man games running between those episodes as well, maybe even two videos on Mondays' during those games.

I love me some MM. The first game was too hard for me to get into, but MM2 hooked me.
I’ve completed all of the classic series except 10 (which I find mega-hard for some reason) and 11 (which I don’t own yet).

But among non-Nintendo franchises that started on the FC/NES, I would argue that Castlevania has had more of an impact on the industry as a whole. Hell, it has a whole genre partially named after it  ;D

Ya darn tootin’.
Y’all rustle up some rope, I’ll get the tar ‘n feathers. Yee haw!

I get that the art style doesn’t appeal to everybody, but it’s a big part of the franchise, and I think it works really well for what Capcom was going for. Though it is kinda contradictory that the kids the art style appeals to would likely struggle with the games’ legendary difficulty.

My heart will always be with the Battle Network and ZX series <3

But I definitely have an appreciation for the classic series. I haven't played all of them though, just 2, 3, 5, and 6

Rock man, Paper man, Scissors man... I think all of those are actually characters. Just throw a dart at something in the room and call it a robot master. Hell, just call the next one Dart man. Change his color and the pattern of his projectile and viola. The art style is somewhere between Thomas the Tank Engine and Legos, or something.

The funniest megaman boss's name in the franchise I think is called Hardman, what better name for a boss than Hardman? huh? :P

Also has anyone ever played "Megaman 8 bit deathmatch" mod for the online original doom engine " Zandronum"? you should be able to look up the game mod online then download it from http://cutstuff.net/mm8bdm/

and www.zandronum.com for Zandronum but it takes some PC knowhow to get this up and working on your PC but the both this doom mod as well as the this Zandronum online engine is free.

once you have Zandronum you need to locate your doom wad files in which come with your copy of original dooms on Steam inside the steam apps folder on your hardrive, or your doom CD (if you have doom on CD)

But the doom wad files is required to play this megaman game I think
