Title: Serious Question: Why would anyone buy an XBONE over a PS4?
Post by: bikingjahuty on July 06, 2019, 02:18:46 pm
To preface, no, this is not a flaming thread where I want people to spew vitriol for the XBONE. I actually want to know people's reasoning for deciding to drop hundreds of dollars on an XBONE over a PS4.

So I currently own 4 XBONE games despite not owning the actual console to play them on. It has been my intention to someday buy an XBOX One so I can play these games and any other exclusives that I want to pick up at some point. However, two questions remained; how many more XBONE games are there that I'd actually be interested in playing and also how much money would I be willing to pay for an XBONE console someday? The answer to the first question shocked me.

I went into my XBONE collecting prospects with fairly low expectations; I know the console didn't have a lot of exclusives, but I at least expected it to be somewhat on par with the 360 in terms of your standard first party exclusives and then about 30 or so third party exclusives that were worth checking out. Including the 4 XBONE games I currently own (one of which is a multiplat), there are only 13 XBONE games I have any desire to ever own...

Keep in mind none of the Gears games are included in this since Gears has never appealed to me, and only Forza 7 is included from that franchise, but even with all that factored in I have to guess that less than 2% of the XBONE's entire game library are actual console exclusives. I am of course completely ignoring the fact that many of the XBONE's "exclusives" are on the PC as well, but I will give the XBONE the benefit of the doubt here. Factoring in all of this, my top dollar on an XBONE is probably $50, I am completely serious. There is such a profound lack of incentive to own one that I legitimately cannot understand why anyone would buy one over a PS4, or hell even a PC right now.

Beyond the obvious that some people are huge Halo, Gears, and/or Forza fans, why the hell would anyone buy one over the PS4? Would especially be interested to hear from people on here who prefer the XBONE.

I know people like the backwards compatibility of it and that the game pass is a pretty good for gaming with all the available games it has.  That's mostly the notable aspect of the Xbone.  Otherwise the PS4 has a lot more big exclusive games.  I own a PC and PS4, there's almost nothing the Xbone has that I would need, other than Rare Replay, but I still think that'll come to PC or even Switch in the future lol

As someone who was never sold on Xbox, even during the 360's heyday, I find it almost unbelievable that the Xbox One has even competed today.  I won't ever say any of Microsoft's three systems weren't impressive or didn't have any good games, but at least the original system and the 360 had a lot of great exclusives. For the Xbox One, I think the only games I was slightly intrigued by was Rare Replay, Sea of Thieves, Cuphead and maybe Killer Instinct. Other than that what titles does it have that the PS4 doesn't? My older brothers both swear by the system because of it's online gaming I guess, but I don't know how anybody could prefer it over the PS4. From a collector's standpoint, the PS4 simply gets more titles on disc, whether it's something like what Limited Run Games does or just smaller budget releases, plus it's got a plethora of exclusives and big AAA titles as well. I like how it has backwards compatibility because although I don't own many Xbox or 360 titles, it would be great to have one machine that could play them all, but it doesn't sound like the library of backward compatible games is all that great at the moment.

Considering Microsoft's biggest and greatest achievement in 2019 was letting Nintendo use Banjo and Kazooie for Smash Brothers, I think it'd be hard to justify owning the Xbox One, a PS4, a Switch and a Wii U, it would never get used and just collect dust on my shelf.

Here's the current list of games that can only be played on Xbox One:

Crimson Dragon - Digital only
Forza Motorsport 5 - Annual series
Halo 5: Guardians - I believe one of the modes is on PC but the full game has yet to make it.
Powerstar Golf - Digital only
Rare Replay - Compilation of previously released games.

Dance Central Spotlight - Digital only Kinect game
Fighter Within - Kinect game (23 on Metacritic)
Fru - Digital only Kinect game
Kinect Sports Rivals - Kinect game
Shape Up - Kinect game

You've got to be kidding yourself if you don't see the value!!

The only reason I bought the Xbox One over the PS4 when it first came out was simply to play Sunset Overdrive.

I bought one because i already had a ps4 and a switch and i really love State Of Decay. I know State Of Decay can be played on pc but honestly last i played it on pc, it was a terrible mess and difficult to play. im going to keep buying xbone exclusives i want to play and some games on xbone that feel weird playing on any other system than a xbox and some games here and there to save room on my ps4.

I greatly favor PS4 over xbone but I will admit that game pass has gotten me to play my xbone quite a bit more recently.  I was able to convert my existing live membership to add a free year of game pass and it's pretty fun having access to hundreds of games.  I've been playing Outer Wilds, Descenders and a few others and really enjoying them.

With a little shopping around, you should be able to find a xbox one on the local marketplace for $100, for that price, I think it's totally worth it.  Are there a lot of exclusives, nope, but I think it's better than what a lot of people give it credit for.

With that said, I don't think there is any rational reason to buy an xbone over a ps4 unless you REALLY like game pass.  I think gamers should own both.   Also Games with Gold is better than Playstation Plus free games usually.

All of this, plus the few exclusives.  I’m definitely PS4 over the XB1 in general, but Game Pass has got me spending more time of that console.  But over the PS4?  Nah.

The controller is one of the biggest reasons for me. The dualshock, in all its iterations from the PS1 onwards, have always been extremely uncomfortable in my hands. The Xbox controllers on the other hand, just feel right; I can use them for hours straight with little to no issue.

I do also find the One performs better in a side-by-side comparison with the games I have played on both systems. The PS4 does look a bit better, but the One feels more stable and consistent.

Another minor thing is achievements. While Playstation does have trophies (now), they just don't feel as valuable as Gamerscore. I can't exactly quantify it, but it does make me prefer to play a multiplatform on the Xbox over the Playstation or Switch.

I know it's not even close to the tons of exclusive titles on ps4 but just saying.I do prefer achivements over trophys even though that's not a big deal. Also the dashbord seems easier to navigate for me.Backwards compatibility is also a strong point for the x box it's realy just depends on what you prefer both systems are great.

Reread the post - weirdfeline says that the XB1 is the only way to play those games, not that they are console exclusives.  Every other game is also playable on PC, and that includes Halo Wars.

If Rare Replay does get a physical release on the Switch there is a real chance I might scrap my ambitions of eventually buying a XBONE console. That compilation is at least half the reason why I want an XBONE even though most of the games are readily available on other consoles, albeit not in HD for the most part.

My XBONE collection is about 1/10th the size of my PS4 one and would probably be smaller if I had found cheap PS4 versions of dual system releases instead of XBONE ones.

I was a big original XBOX collector until it became my first system to fail (drive read errors). I replaced it with another XBOX that barely got any use and ironically enough, it too failed on me for the same reason. This already soured me to the idea of getting a XB360 but what solidified that decision was working at GameStop and dealing with the rampant RROD/E-174 errors. It took till 2013 before I felt confident enough that MS had worked out all of the issues for me to buy a XB360.

The only reason I own a XBONE is a guy on another forum had a bundle for a killer price and I had leftover tax refund money burning a hole in my pocket. I have searched out the exclusives but only bite the bullet on them if they're DIRT cheap. If there's dual system releases, I'll hold out for the PS4 version unless like I mentioned above it's much cheaper for the XBONE version and even then it's a mental debate of waiting/buying sometimes.  :P

Long story short, the damage has been done by MS (at least to me). Granted they've come a long way but I still have a slight trepidation over their hardware. The shenanigans over the XBONE launch regarding used games and at the time Kinect being always on pushed me over to the Sony camp rather easily. They also just released that all-digital system with no drive which IMO is an expensive doorstop. When the next gen systems come out, it will be EASY to determine which one I'm going with.  ;)

I'm mostly a PC player any more, however I do enjoy the Xbox One, it probably gets more play time than my Ps4. Playing original Xbox and 360 games with better framerates and sometimes higher resolutions on the One x is really neat. I'm not anti-backwards compatibility, but I will say this, it's kind of sad that the most exciting thing about the Xbox is playing old games on it. I also think it's great that Microsoft is very open to allowing their properties on other platforms, now had the Xbox one sold well I'm sure they wouldn't be. But I'm glad they are.

I think both systems have positives and negatives. As far as what I like better about XB1/

As mentioned above, the controllers. Dualshocks are for smaller hands and feel flimsier...but that a;; fine. What I don't like (Though many see it as a positive) is that there are no batteries. I was charging my 1st dualshock and accidently walked through the wire, yanking it out of the controller. This damaged the port, making my controller not charge anymore. Now that it's charge is dead, I can't use it anymore. had it used batteries...I could still use it.

The biggies for me are storage.

1. PS4 only allows you one external device. period. In this day and age of large games, that sucks. To use a 2nd you have to reconnect your 1st and clear it, at least last time I tried.  Xbox allows you as many externals as you want. You can only have 2 hooked up at a time, but you can use others freely by just disconnecting whatever you already have there. This allows you as much space as you could ever want. With PS4 I have a ton of games uninstalled because I can't use a 2nd HD. Due to storage limitations, I have quit buying PS4 games.

2. Stability. The stability of External seems better on the XB1....If my PS4 had an error and needs to shit down, or there is a power outage, the external needs to be "Fixed" I was downloading something with my PS4 in low power mode last summer while I ran errands. There was a power outage at my house, and my HD got corrupted.

That leads me to the last thing, that some of you will find weird. I like that the physical and digital files are the same on XB1 (Since they were originally going to just use the disc as an installer anyway) If I get a digital copy of a PS4 game, I have to uninstall the disc and the DLC to reinstall the digital copy. As a collector who likes the convenience of digital, that makes Xb1 stand out.
When my PS4 had it's corrupted external, I had to download the full games of anything I had digitally, since If I had the disc it's a different file. When I had to replace a HD for my XB1, I simply installed the games from the disc, and Dl the patches. A handful of games have patches the size of the game itself (Doom, PUBG, a few others) so it doesn't matter there...but If I need to reinstall say... Fifa 19... it's easier to Install 45GB from the disc and DL the 3BG patch instead of having to DL the 45-48GB game in it's entirety. Since I own the digital rights, Once this disc is installed I can put it away. For those of us with Data Caps....this is HUGE for me.

That made me think of one more... file management. With PS4 you have to uninstall everything or nothing. With XB1 you can choose exactly what you want to uninstall. PS4 does let you choose to install larger DLC when you install the game or not, which is OK, but that's all you get to choose.
Why is this important to me? Well I own a digital copy of the one of the battlefield games. If I want to uninstall my physical file I HAVE to uninstall all the DLC as well. The DLC is like 40GB- I want to uninstall the Game, so I can reinstall the digital copy...but not have to uninstall the DLC just to reinstall it. Xbox allows you to just uninstall the game, or specific DLC if you want...of course since it's all the same file it doesn't really matter as much there.

Reasons to buy an Xbox One:

- Picture perfectionist. the Xbox One X outranks the PS4 Pro on raw processing power, so multi-platform games look best on it. If you must have the best looking version of your games, you'll want an Xbox.

-Capable controllers. Not only does the standard Xbox controller have a huge following as arguably the best controller ever designed, but the Xbox adaptive controller allows many folks who happen to be unable to work a regular controller well to be able to play. If you need the best controls available, Xbox is top dog.

-Full on fanboys. Some people grew up on Xbox exclusive* franchises like Halo and Forza. If you're still in love with the favorite titles from your youth, you'll want to keep an Xbox around.

-Complete collectors. Do you already have a PS4 & Switch? Why not get an Xbox One & finish out the generational set?

-Bargain buyers. The Xbox one goes on a lot more sale than the PS4, & usually better ones. the Mejier chain just did a sale where Xbox Ones were $200 off, for example. The Xbox version of multi system games can often be found on closeout long after the PS4 copies are gone. The price-minded buyer can save a lot of money by going for an Xbox.

I, personally, am a combination of the last two.

My main reason with the initial purchase was to carry over my achievements. I’ve grown a little apart from hunting those down these days though.
I like the Xbox controller over the PS4. It fits my hands a little better and I favor the position of the analog sticks on the Xbox. I also don’t play games on PC, so those titles are still exclusives to me.
I’m using 12TB of storage right now. It’s close to filling up. Like others have said, you just need to plug in another external.
I only buy the exclusives on the PS4. There are so many games that get released these days, there’s nowhere near enough time to play them all. My PS4 seams to get the least amount of action. It’s really whatever you preference is.

X1X is the performing best of the generation.

X1 controller is arguably the best controller

Game Pass is cheap consistently, so cheap massive library of revolving games.

Backwards compatibility allows folks to have a larger library of cheaper games.

Folks had 360, so they just continued along.

Combination of the last two specifically for folks who probably grew up on CoD on 360, can now keep playing those games on X1.

X1S/X1X are the only console based 4k blu-ray players out there.

Xbox had a slew of features that PS4 either never implemented, half implemented, or implemented late.  External storage devices, changing username, media player, etc

Before the Switch took off I chose X1 over PS4 simply due to needing to keep my Rockband song licenses going into Rockband 4. I played Doom 2016 all the way through on the X1, otherwise I barely use it. I am now firmly in the Switch bandcamp.

First,  I own a PS4 for 4 years and it is my main console for this generation.

I own a original Xbox since 2002 (40 games), and a Xbox 360 since 2006 (80+ games), so I was a big Xbox fans and they were my favorite consoles. 2013 Xbox One shit show released showed that Microsoft didn't care about their fans and gamers, so I moved on...

Until 6 months ago, I bought a Xbox One S on boxing day for really cheap, so I could play the latest Gears of War and Halo games (2 of my favorite series).

The few titles I own:
-Halo 5
-GOW Remaster
-GOW 4
-Rare Replay
-Killer Instinct
-Tekken 7

With the exception of GOW5 and Halo 6, I don't see myself buying more games for it. I do play a lot of old Xbox and 360 games on it (revisiting all the GOW), and that is a great feature the Xbox One has over the PS4. But again, Microsoft recently pissed me off, they mentioned at E3 they won't make more backward compatible games for the Xbox One, and instead focus on the new "Scarlett". What about people that support your current console? Should they not have access to more exclusive games and support? Now I really don't want to buy any more of their future console and stick with Playstation.

So really, if you see a Xbox One at a really good price, get one, there is few good games, but the PS4 offer so much more.

I got mine when Microsoft had the zero-down, zero interest for two years financing deal. I'm mostly a retro gamer and mostly a Nintendo gamer. So, basically I've always had all the exclusives I ever wanted. But, I wanted something better to lay multi-platform games. Xbox One X is arguably the best place to place most multiplat games. It was kind of a no-brainer for me. Also, stacks of backwards compatible original Xbox and access to 360 (I skipped that console generation) games now in 4k? Sure!

I've had zero issues with it and loved my experience with Xbox. I guess I could have gotten a PlayStation, but other than "exclusives" I've yet heard anyone give me a compelling reason to get one.

When the next console generation comes around I may grab one when they're sub $100 just to play Bloodborne and maybe FFVIIR if it actually releases in time for PS4.

4k, 60fps, HDR + 4K Blu Ray

But yeah, that's about it lol.  I am a graphics snob and XB1 is the pinacle of console gaming graphics, and performance.  It loads faster, renders frames better, handles HDR better, color pallets better, gives better textures, aliasing and does 4k movies and media better than the pro.  I could never need another reason to justify Xbox.

But I also love the controller as others has said, it's universally considered the best controller of all time by many and it's even used on PS4 with 3rd party companies trying to make a XB1 controller style for PS4.   They made the PS4 controller even longer which is odd, it feels wierd in the hand.  And the thumbsticks are in the wrong place where you have to bend your thumbs uncomfortably.  It really needs a redesign.

and of course Forza, which I love and adore.  It's the standard for racing games.  If you like racing games, you need an Xbox.

XB1 is better imo for FPS.  Xbox always was a FPS console.  COD, Halo, Battlefield, Gears, Racing games.  All play better on Xbox imo.

PS4 is way better for library of 1st party content but outside of that the well runs dry,  3rd party games play way better on Xbox and those are the games with infinite replay value typically,  online shooters play smoother, most competitive communities play on Xbox.  Action games, fighting games ect are good for PS4... .  That is no doubt.  But I choose Xbox for my reasons listed.  :D

I hope you do buy an Xbox One X and give it a honest go.  You might love it.  :)

Also......

PS4 doesn't have any good racing games

To be fair, the system does have the majority of same third party games as PS4, minus the niche Japanese franchises. I guess it comes down to which exclusive franchise you really prefer. Personally, I don't prefer either, PlayStation or Xbox's exclusive IPs. I only have a handful in my PS4 collection. I mostly bought it because niche third parties publishers tend to favor it over Xbox. Most of my PS4 collection consists of indie games, budget titles, and obscure stuff.

I would still consider buying an Xbox if the price was right. Like maybe sub-$200, throw in a physical game. If interested in Killer Instinct, Sea of Thieves, the Ori games, Lucky's Tale, ReCore... and not much else.

I recently bought a controller styled after the x box controller so thats no longer a issue.

What controller is that? I also favor the Xbox controller over Playstation's.

Microsoft left a sour taste in my mouth after my Xbox-360 Elite got the RROD; I thought that version of 360 eliminated that problem. Then before X-Box One came out, Microsoft was going to make the system have to be online to play games, even if playing by yourself! They came to their senses later on, but the damage had already been done.

Not to mention the paltry selection of exclusive games makes it a no-go for me.

Their are two options for Xbox One controller layout for PS4.  One is by hori and it's fairly affordable. The other is by Astro and is a tad pricey.  Both are essential for the avid PS4 fan. Because imo it's a far superior controller layout.  :)

Their are actually many more options but all seem to be lowly rated.  From the Razer company and such.

As for durability.  I would like to state, that in my years of gaming. I have never met a more durable disc based console than the Xbox One.  And that is from someone who went through SEVEN xbox 360s due to RROD :(.   They really did turn the ship around :)

New Super Lucky's Tale is coming to Switch in November (physical) if you didn't know. Ori games are rumored to be ported as well.

So...

There are a couple of 360 games I'd like to play that slipped under my radar: Lost Odyssey and Infinite Undiscovery. Can they be played on the Xbone?

Here's a list of everything from the Xbox and 360 that's playable on the One:

Yes, all are capable of BC!

So, I had my ps4 controller plugged in on my leg the other day...fell off, foot and a half to the ground... damaged the port on the controller that the it uses to charge. Now, it's very difficult to get it to charge. I HATE that there is no battery option for PS4 controllers. Never had this problem with PS3, but both my PS4 controllers have damaged ports. I had to throw the other away because it wouldn't charge at all.

Sweet.

Obviously getting a used 360 is the cheaper option, but I hate buying used consoles.

I heard rumors that the PS4 are built light weight and cheap like. I don't have proof because I never had A PlayStation 4 but I heard somewhere on the internet that the PS4 is not built vary tough.

My PlayStation 3 was dropped many times like my PS2 both already fell 3 feet from the ground and still works, My PlayStation 2 was also dropped at least 3 feet from the ground onto a thin piece of carpeting onto a cement floor. it still works I am a klutz, and I don't think if I had a PS4 do that it would survive from what I heard about them.

If I would ever buy either of them I would definitely get the XboxOne for it's backwards capability, but I already have a barely used Xbox360 so not today

(edit) Xbox360 is vary heavy and I would try not to that that ever drop

I was just talking about the controller, not the system itself. The PS4 controllers are, IMO, very fragile compared to PS3 or 360 (Ore XB1) controllers/

After stopping in a GameStop this weekend I found another decent reason to choose XB1 - games are generally cheaper on the secondary market.  Probably due to the lack of immediate demand.

I still have trouble purchasing XBONE titles over their PS4 counterparts. You'd think with prices being $5-10 cheaper than the PS4 versions, I would be cleaning UP but I still hold out.  :P

When it comes to XBONE exclusive titles, I still purchase those if I find them cheap enough. Micro Center had Forza 6 for $10 and I snapped that up. That was the first XBONE game I've bought in months whereas I seem to get PS4 games almost weekly.  :o

Preface.

I own a PS4 and a PS4 Pro as well as a launch model Xbox One and an X1X.

With the exception of Detroit: Become Human (played to completion multiple times) and a few hours of Infamous:Second Son, XB1 has dominated my console gaming time. With Switch coming in at close second.

For me it comes down to:
Xbox One X: best graphics and frame rates.
Backward compatibility: I’ve actually repurchased games I had on PS3 for 360 because of the BC.
4K Blu Ray
Play Anywhere: I have a beefy Windows 10 PC setup. Having games like Quantum Break And Cup Head be Xbox1/Windows 10 cross buy is awesome. Save games even transfer from one platform to the other.
Game Pass: This is what PSNow should be. And at some point it’ll be on every platform.
Games With Gold: after the first month is done, the games for that month are yours. They don’t expire when games with gold does
Unlimited cloud save: why is it PS Plus costs more but gives you less? Less cloud  storage. A temporary license to free games. No previous gen free games anymore. Where exactly is the value?

At the end of the day. I own both. If someone is a serious gamer I’d recommend both.

Best value for MY dollar? I have to say Xbox One all the way.

All GWG on the 360/BC are yours to keep, even after gold expires. On XB1 that's not the case. When gold expires, so does your access to the games.

Agreed on the Cloud. I ran out of cloud storage on PSN years ago. It was a driving factor, along with HD storage space, in my primarily buying games on XB1.

100%.  It was a huge sticking point when the XB1 launched.  It may still show them in your library or history, but you can’t access them.

You appear to be correct. When I look at a game I downloaded from GWG for XB1 I’m the store it shows a “buy to own” button.

Damn. Thanks for the correction!

the Halo Series is really cool in my opinion. I eventually intend on playing all the halo series games, but I don't really think I'll like Halo Wars 1 or 2 even though they were set in the Halo Universe. the 2 Halo Wars games are like Starcraft and I was never good at real time strategy games before.

believe or not the halo series storyline goes with the following then Halo Reach is actually a prequel to the first Halo game Halo Combat Evolved and Halo Wars goes even further back in the Halo game storyline.

1. Halo: Wars
2. Halo: Reach
3. Halo: Combat Evolved
4. Halo 2
5. Halo 3: ODST
6. Halo 3
7. Halo 4
8. Halo 5: Guardians
9: Halo Wars: 2

Just remembered something that's very much in Xbox's favor over PS4- generosity with in-box codes.

Basically, if you buy a disc game, and there's a download code in the box for some DLC or cosmetics or what-have-you, on the PS4/Switch the code works once & that's it. Buy a used game, get a useless code. Not so on Xbox! The codes are tied to the game, so a code can be used again by a secondhand purchaser. No reason to fear buying used games & missing content- if you've got the code, you're good!

I've never seen any official statements on this, so I suppose in theory I'm wrong and it just so happens every used Xbox One game I've ever bought had an unused code in it... but that seems unlikely to me.

You just got lucky, as this is absolutely untrue. The codes are tied to your account just like anything else. If it's been used it tells you in yellow letters that the code has already been redeemed. Otherwise, there would either be a universal code, or codes would be eliminated all together.

Edit: If you buy from gamestop, they often sell formally new (but never sold) games as used to clear inventory. Because of this, the codes are always unused, unless someone were to try to redeem one secretly in store.

How the heck have I never gotten a used code?!

Yeah, just nice and lucky :) 6 is a pretty small sample size though. Most casual gamers don't bother with codes believe it or not, unless it's for packs in a sports game, or a gold edition (or season pass) etc which costs more. A lot of people don't really care for cosmetics and such- they play the game and sell it. I've received plenty of used 360 games with valid codes, honestly, probably 90%+. I've even received a few used games with still valid online passes. Former rental copies also usually have codes intact.

PC games are different, those codes can be used multiple times. Some codes will have, say, 10 activations applied to them. Console games don't work that way.

Here's an easy way to show if a code can be reused or not:

MHDMJ-7WKK7-PQXHF-CYKMJ-QCJMZ
2GVCX-R3QHD-RHK73-PJYCW-2TX7Z

Those are the codes for the Day 1 bonus content for Dragon Ball FigherZ that came with my copy. I've already redeemed them, so it should tell you they are already used.

It's a mind-bogglingly odd thing- I mean, I buy primarily used media. 360, PS3, PS4- I think maybe one good code in the lot. But every Xbox One game is fine? Maybe the next time I buy one, I should get a lotto ticket too!

I will give Microsoft one thing (two things, backwards compatibility is neat), but this game pass is impressive.  For the PC version that is, they are running it as 1 dollar a month for the first month and then a slashed price of 5 bucks a month for some amount of time I guess, but even then 10 bucks a month for playing games is an incredibly good deal.  And it's brand new games like Gears 5, Bloodstained, and the upcoming The Outer Worlds.  Definitely will keep me busy till November.

Maybe this speaks to the comparative popularity of the XB1 to those consoles?

I've always re-upped when the $1 deal is available.  I've played a ton of games using it.  Right now its only for new users, but the $5 deal is available if you get 3 months.  I went ahead and bit the bullet there so I could start getting my Games with Gold again, and then it ends up being like a $15 3-month rental for The Outer Worlds.

I have like a half dozen games I could play right now with Outer Worlds tomorrow, which is pretty great for the price.  After I'm done with them, it probably wouldn't be an every month thing, but this would get me to play games I'm otherwise waiting on a deep sale for or weren't really super interested in, but was curious to check out.  Like if I had bought Gears of War 4 cheap, I probably wouldn't be super interested in Gears 5 as the gameplay isn't really that great I'm finding, but knowing that Gears of War 5 is practically free for me, there's a good chance I'll check it out.

I'm really curious to know how developers and Microsoft actually make money off this, especially with new games getting put on it.

Looks like Costco will be having a sale on the Xbox One this month for $150. It comes with an extra controller and 3 months of game pass. I need someone to talk me out of this, since I don’t really need it, but that’s a pretty good deal.

Game Pass is a fantastic reason to own an X1 over a PS4.

Oh, and I already have a PS4 that rarely gets used. I’m more of a Switch guy these days.

Right there with you tpugmire. I'm probably going to shelf my PS4 since it always sounds like it's about to self-destruct. I'll be getting an Xbox One for Christams, anyway.

I spend most of the time on the Switch, too.
