Title: Proposing A Game Rating System For Personal Use In Owns Collections
Post by: oldgamerz on July 15, 2019, 02:42:18 am
There is a lot of older topics that cover this somewhat, including the following thread from 2013
https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,3441.msg35458.html#msg35458

Anyway, I a wondering if there is a way already, to rate (my own) games 1-5 stars in my own collection. that I have played, I can understand if the answer is no.

Because I guess briefly how websites run. And I do not know if the VGCollect host computer could handle that much more data. by giving each and every member the option to rate their games. but for the record that is the only feature that another forum I used to attend had that this site didn't have.

PS. I currently can't find any thread that talks about adding the data for personal use.

Notes section seems fine enough if you want to do this. I'd rather see other stuff implemented before this.

I personally do this. With a few exceptions depending on genre my rating system goes like this.

Presentation (graphics, art direction, framerate, and visual fidelity) - x/10
Sound (OST, Sound Fx, voice acting) - x/10
Gameplay (controls, mechanics, battle/combat systems, unlockables, replayability) - x/10
Fun Factor (How enjoyable the game is to me subjectively) - x/20

This all culminates in a score out of 50, which I like since it includes a lot more nuance than just a 4 or 5 Star rating system or your standard x/10 overall score. 60% of every game's score is based off of more objective markers, however 40% is based off my own subjective experience of the game. Since how much I enjoy a game is the most important thing in the end, this score is a lot more weighted than the other individual markers. I've played games that objectively are pretty good games, but I didn't care for too much. Likewise I've played games I loved, but didn't look that great and the gameplay was noticeably flawed. In the end these games scored about the same, but for very different reasons.
