If you want to participate this year, please post your name on this thread. I want people to have been members of these forums for at least 3 months prior to this and some sort of activity here. We have had 7 years so far of 100% success and we are not going to fail this year! Sign ups will be up through 10/08. Once its done, you have a week to send me your wish list, address info, and what not. Also include if you are willing to send out of your own country cause every year we get non US participants.
When you reply on this thread, post what you think the spending limit should be. I will take the most popular option and that's what we will go with. And since I'm mentioning it ... if the limit is $100 (an example) please don't send someone $10 worth of crap. The limit is more of a guideline as to what to expect to spend. Almost everyone here the past few years has went over the limit for their participant. Within the time of sending in the wish lists, if the limit becomes more than you want to spend, let me know and I can remove you from the list. No hard feelings will be had.
Every year we have a reveal thread and IIRC, Kashell/Dash/Turf and a few others actually do theirs on their YouTube page. If you wish to wait to open your gift til Christmas, that is definitely your prerogative. However, I would like to ask that no one posts anything about their stuff til after Christmas.

I'm in. I think we should do $35 this year but I'm fine with $50 like in previous years.

I’ve done the spaghetti with chili and cheese on it since. It’s pretty awesome. That skyline chili with cinnamon in it is not good though. That Skyline hot sauce is fantastic. Worth the price of admission!

Yeah, you can provide your VGC wishlist, or a more/less curated wishlist. Best logic is not to have a wishlist that is too small (read as get me exactly this) or only $50 things.
If I participate, my hope is to not have to shop online and I'll part with things from my own personal collection... probably no tootsies because I ain't goin shoppin.

Yea, I was thinking, given the way things are going with the pandemic, and the post office getting screwed up here in America, I would have to do the shopping online.

This is just me spit-balling here, and I reckon this may come off as "gate-keeping", but like that one rule over at the marketplace where users can't just come in and start selling their stuff without partaking in the community, I think the same should apply to these kind of events within the community.

OBS is free and would work as well for livestreaming on Twitch or YouTube. Can record at the same time as streaming, also. Just need a capture program to capture the window where the Zoom session is.

I don’t think you’re allowed to “bow out”. I’m pretty sure that it’s in the VGCollect bylaws that Lady D can’t leave. I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere.

Probably has more to do with the cost and current state of the US Postal Service than anything else. Shipping times are often obscene, even for stuff that is in the US. And to be frank, I wouldn't want anything that was shipped from here.

It is this exactly, our post service has been sabotaged, and there's still a pesky virus going about. I don't even think other countries are accepting mail from the US right now. I can't even find any foreign sellers on eBay who would ship to me (I got refunded on my winning bids twice) due to the virus.
I do apologize to all my gamer buds in Europe or Australia or anywhere else. Hopefully next year will be better :(

And especially if you don't even open it until Christmas.
Feel free to decontaminate your items if you want, but you're much, much more likely to get the virus from the air directly from someone who is sick rather than anything we send to each other.

I had the same experience. I was paired with someone from Europe a few years ago, and shipping alone was pushing $60. I'm happy to send to Europe again, but I can definitely sympathize if that's too expensive for folks, especially right now. It's just kind of sucky all around :/

Same from this side. Its gotten to expensive to send or buy stuff from the US. And i did it alot years ago because it was cheap then. Even cheaper then buying in my own country :o.

The contamination part ain't the problem. that won't happen with that much time past, also if that where the case you couldn't order anything. and online shopping has increased big time during covid.
Still the actual problem with the virus is that shipping is slowed down by a ton. Way more risk of stuff getting lost and the shipping duration being increased thanks to suboptimal conditions.
Not to mention that postage outside of the US might either be held back or heavily delayed in them present days. Customs is going to be a bit more picky during these times. in short shipping especially internationally sucks during covid.

Next time try to keep the weight of the package at a minimum of 2lbs. and it should cost no more than $25, or up to $40 if the package weights 3lbs. with First-Class International.
Granted, I reckon it's a gift by gift basis since not all games/items weight the same, and some of you like to throw in additional stuff for the sake of Christmas, but it's still useful info to have, I believe. Let's say someone's wishlist is comprised of 5 single-disc PS2 games, which weight around 5oz. each, bringing the total to 1lb 9oz, or 1lb 13oz give or take after factoring packaging materials, as in bubble-wrap and the box itself.
First-Class International usually takes up to a week to reach it's destination.

I understand wanting to do it yourself because it's the "spirit of the season" and what-have-you, but in all honesty I think drop-shipping would be the better choice in instances like these, especially since you're usually given the option of shipping everything in one package.

EDIT: And I see your list is over 10,000 items haha. I would definitely recommend picking out like a top 10 or 20 items from that list to help folks out.

I've gotten exactly one thing in the past and that was perfectly fine as I knew it was around the price of the cap. With shipping it hit the cap so I wasn't the least bit worried because I had it in hand (it was a bit of a pain to source locally which is why I threw it on my list). Going into these things I never expect more than one thing anyway so it's always a treat to get 2 or more. 8)
On my side, I've always been a quantity and have 3 games lined up at least for my recipient. I love doing the hunting and finding the games they want for as cheap as possible and passing those savings along. Right now I'm hunting for knick-knacks to include (and chili of course). :P

If memory serves, FuncoLand was kind of the catalyst that lead to Game Stop and their practices. The FuncoLands I went to were mostly pleasant so it might be a case by case basis.
Electronics Boutique was my favorite. For some reason, the ones I went to ALWAYS had what I was looking for whether it was a new release that I forgot to pre-order or something random I wanted to try.

Sounds like a lazy employee. They've revamped their computer system a few times but a lot of the things are still the same as when I worked there over 10 years ago. Their database on older systems like PS1 might not be as comprehensive as it used to be but they definitely maintain one. That said, GS is probably the last place I'm going to in 2013/14 looking for PS1 games. :P

I know, I know...it's your feelings, how could I possibly know but that said I worked at FU Land for 2 years and at GS immediately after. I KNOW that all of the nonsense people despise about GS now originated at FU Land and was brought over with the merger/buyout. I too miss the old newspapers that listed all the games and their prices, the playable kiosks and having boxes on display for games we didn't have in stock but I absolutely do NOT miss the constant pitching and those Goddamn cleaning kits. ::) I have found that people's nostalgia for FU Land is the perfect example of people remembering things with rose-colored glasses. 8)

Yeah I think I might've confused things a bit. Their database IN STORE is quite extensive but their website is garbage sometimes for looking things up. I searched for 4-5 things the other day and it said no stores within 100 miles of me had them in stock. Then I visit stores in my area and find what is supposedly nowhere to be found in my area. Not only that but some games won't even show up to be searched whereas they did before. Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero for SWITCH is a good example. I literally just did a search for it and of the 7 results that came back, none are for the Switch version. You know the Switch, that current gen system that no one owns. :P

So I was checking my email and I got a notification from GS, they're getting my order together! I went to go look at it and they're shipping all but one item out...the one item was the SS gift. :o
So the old tracking number showed my package was supposed to arrive on the 3rd. That day came and went, no package from GS. Same on the 4th and then yesterday. So at this point it's been nearly two weeks since the order was placed. I go online to track the shipment and it says Delivered. Uh oh. :o Well...the thing is, I ordered on the 23rd of Oct. and it shows being delivered to Pompano Beach, FL (I'm up here in Ohio) on the NINETEENTH of October. I had NO idea GS was capable of time travel! :P
Well, I tried to chat and eventually a "live" person answered me. Long story short, Fed Ex tracking is f'ed up and they'll let me know when it's fixed. I dunno when, just that they will. I wasn't completely sure I wasn't actually talking to a computer program or someone in a country where English isn't the main language. At any rate, kept getting the run around with a bunch of non-answers so I dunno where that package is or isn't. It certainly didn't show up today. To add insult to injury, the SS gift, and the whole reason I did the order, went from waiting to ship to waiting on item availability. >:(
It's even more aggravating is that the website says no copies are available within 100 miles of me and I've been in a few locations the last two weeks and found the game at every location. ::) I'll have to cancel that item off my order which luckily doesn't negate the free shipping but I'm sure I'm going to get the run-around on that too. :(
*EDIT* Went online to see if I could get into another chat. It said chat was disabled. It gave me a 1-800 number to call, which I did. After about 10 minutes of listening to the automated system/bouncing around...I got the hold music. Then the voice says to wait for the next available person. Right after that it rings...to a another automated message that said the system is down and promptly hangs up on me. >:(

An update or sorts for those following along with this micro-nightmare. So on Monday I called the GS customer service line and within a few minutes I actually got in contact with a live human! :o This fellow's name was "Earl" and he had THE thickest Asian accent. Whatever, I've dealt with out-of-country support for IT issues at work and his English was a lot more discernible. So "Earl" is going through the motions, asks my name, phone number, and order number and I'm given the illusion that something's happening.
After every piece of info I'm placed on hold for about a minute; confusing but whatever. Then he asks for the tracking number for the items I mentioned were delivered. I knew this is where things were going to go awry. He comes back off hold and goes "Your items have shipped." ::) Mind you, I opened the call stating I am looking for an order that shows shipped but I've not received, ordered on the 23rd but somehow the items time-traveled and arrived on the 19th in a state 1100 miles away from me. Back on hold I go...
He comes back and asks if I want a refund or replacement. Stupid me at that point should have just said refund and washed my hands of it but I said replace. I go on hold again, he comes back and says something hurriedly then says it'll be 10-15 days. I say okay and boom...call ended. I go to look at the order today and no update, shows same bad tracking number and no indication it's on re-order. Now I'm stuck waiting 10 or so days to call back and put in for a refund.
Hopefully this weekend I can secure the items locally. The GS website still is fubar so I have to go to my old store and ask the manager to help me track them down. :-\

Let's start from the beginning. Let me tell you the tale of the last game I ever bought from Indiebox. Fucking Indiebox. Indiebox did a collector's edition for Super Meat Boy. Pretty popular game. Well these folks included a nice little letter with the game to say thanks for buying the game. Stupid me opened the letter in my car as soon as I got it out of the mailbox. These chucklefucks filled the envelope for the letter full of glitter. I fucking hate glitter It's the herpes of arts and crafts supplies. Tons of glitter everywhere.
So I get a notification from USPS that a package was delivered to my porch. I look out the window and see a box with Ignition365 written on it. I can only assume it's SS. I bring in the box and hand it to my wife for our yearly ritual of her opening the box, seeing if things need to be wrapped, if so, she wraps them. My wife asks me if I see all this glitter. I stop. My head droops. You sick fuck. I turn on the entryway light to get a better look. My wife shakes the box and starts laughing uncontrollably because she can hear how much glitter is in the box. I turn around to go and look at the box and sure enough you can see the bits of arts of crafts STDs brimming out of the box, luckily contained by the immaculate taping job. Now at this point I can see it's not glitter so much as confetti, which is admittedly better, but you are truly a demented soul.

Sounds like I need to get on the ball with getting my package together to send out. I'm rectifying the GS situation by picking up the gift locally. I picked up a G&W this morning at my old store and the current manager helped me hunt down who locally had the games I was looking for. The ones for me are a no-go but the SS gift is at a location right across the street from where I have to be anyway. Get that knocked out and then on to find knick-knacks to complete the package. ;)

Saturday comes and goes and of course nothing so Monday I'm putting this order out of its misery. I found the SS item locally and there was one more I was hoping I could use for SS as well but that one seems just out of reach so looking into an alternative.
I'm honestly baffled at how awry this went. I've ordered stuff online from GS plenty of times and it's been nothing short of spotless. :P

Called earlier this week and at least managed to get the SS item canceled. The other items they keep acting like they were sent and everything is hunky-dory so I'm doing the 5-10 business days and if I don't see a reversal by Monday then I'll call back and just keep on demanding someone in the US handle this. I'm fairly certain I can expect to get hung up on multiple times. ::)
I've half considered calling the CC company about a chargeback but it's their own card so I don't know if that will amount to anything. At least with the CC, I've gotten stateside customer service before. I do get points for using the card but if they won't fix this I'll abandon the card (not cancel it, just never use it). This has also given me a real pause in wanting to place any additional orders through GS.com as well. :-\

It's definitely harder to navigate. Also, some things straight up do not tender under search results. I've looked up games that I absolutely know I've searched for in the past, know that they've carried and now there's no indication of them at all. It's just as bad in the store as it is online so no help there.
Just today I saw they marked down the newest Sword Art Online game to $25. I do a search and for some reason my home store was set to somewhere in Illinois. I changed the zip and no listings within 100 miles. I checked something else and now my home store was in Maryland?! :o Anyway, we had decided to hit a GS on the way out of town this morning and I found it at that store no problem. So much for not in stock...even saw they had more than one copy in the drawer. ::)
Anywho, couple of knick-knacks acquired so time to put the finishing touches on and get this thing shipped out. ;D

I had to go dig to see what the plan was, we could set up a VGC Discord server, have everyone jump into a video/voice channel, and screen capture with OBS and stream to twitch/youtube/etc. Discord does 25 concurrent users for video chats iirc. Would be pretty easy to set up.

I shared the link to the unboxing to some folks who got a huge kick out of my trauma...
Anyway, Kash knocked it out of the park... other than his twisted razzley dazzley confetti and glitter. I hadn't intended on taking part this year and iirc didn't explicitly express interest in taking part either, but I was entered anyway. It's also not the only SS this year that I got volunteered to take part in ::). Anyway, not a big deal, I love doing these each year, because it's always a blast. I was just trying to not go out hunting or shopping, but it all turned out good. Soera shot me a PM right at the deadline asking for wishlists because I didn't realize I was entered. I don't know if I had sent Soera my normal wishlist of VGC wishlist + recommend things if you want or if I just went and said VGC wishlist because I was just trying to be quick at the last minute... but again, Kash knocked it out of the park. Handful of games from my wishlist, a game that admittedly I do own digitally (forgive me :-[) that I absolutely love and am glad to finally own physically and two other games not on my wishlist as recommendations. Probably won't replay Code Vein anytime soon (especially with needing to finish Dark Souls III), but I'm definitely going to try to make time for Lost Child and Kotodama real soon.

That Bloodstained was part of my GameStop order from hell. There was another item as well but it was part of the group that time-traveled and showed delivered in Pompano Beach five days before I ever placed the order. Unfortunately, I couldn't source another copy in time and had to consider alternates and luckily found Death Mark instead. I was able to run down Bloodstained locally and once I did I saw it every-damn-where I went (so much in fact that I ended up getting myself a copy on XBONE as well). :P
The Mega Man 8 I initially got was the GH version. I have a friend who runs a flea market booth and he had the Non-GH version. With a little finagling, he let me swap versions with him. He even had a PS1 set up so I could test it out. ;) The Death Mark came from him as well.
I had wanted to include a few Kirby knick-knacks but for the life of me couldn't find any. I checked multiple book stores, GameStops, comic shops and flea market booths and NO ONE had anything Kirby knick-knack related. King Dedede was my consolation and I stumbled on those Mega Man backpack hangers at the 11th hour. :P
Naturally the chili and the chips were the easiest to acquire and of course that Pac-Man VS from my Pac-Man VS super sekrut warehouse. 8)
Speaking of, I guess people ought to know why I have so many of those. I acquired them during my time at GameStop years ago. If I remember right they were a pre-order bonus/freebie that Nintendo sent to all of the stores. At the time I was a keyholder and the managers of the stores in my area were buddies so they used me to fill shifts whereby I got to work in multiple stores in the area. None of these stores gave out their Pac-Man VS discs so I asked if I could have them and at one point had like 20 of the damn things. For years now I've been giving them away as stocking stuffers or for other Secret Santas I've participated in on other forums and finally on here as well.

My Secret Santa Telly did such an awesome job and deserves a shoutout. He got me two games that were in the top 10 of games I was looking for- Pix w/ the card!! and a sealed?? Yu-Gi-Oh The Sacred Cards, so AWESOME. Pix is one of my favorite games for the vita and I missed out on the LRG release originally and the Yu-Gi-Oh game is my favorite on the GBA. And on top of that he got me a game that looks totally up my alley. Very much appreciated- I so very much enjoy this tradition every year.
I watched some of the VGcollect stream and saw that others got some awesome stuff! We have such a wonderful community here. I hope to maybe join a stream sometime. To answer tpugmire- he was correct, I was his Santa and I'm glad he liked the games.
